It's not that he has done a bad job, IMO he just wasn't the right fit for the job.

List managers liaise with players, players families, players agents, key stake holders prior to drafting, recruitment, sacking, trading etc.

When the phone call comes in and the players stakeholder grabs the phone and sees who is on the other end... who do you think has a better chance of persuading the player to do what St Kilda wants:

A: A list manager with minimal experience or sufficient pull within the industry like James Gallagher
B: A list manager with experience, credentialed AFL/VFL person who is used to making deals like SOS, Cripps, etc

One of the worth things I’ve read on here.

Gubby Allen was the person answering the phone due to his connections. Gallagher was thr numbers man and overseer

He had a 4 year deal from the Suns and 2 from us it's pretty obvious why he left.
Pretty obvious like Ratts 1st half of the year was so good that the 2nd half of the year meant nothing and everything is fine LOL and he will be our coach for the next couple of years LOL

He would be the exception not the rule surely? The list manager is a vital position at the club I think they need to be around the club observing the players, meeting the coaches etc.
WCE had Freo both have offices in Melbourne where their list management and recruitment teams are based out of

do you want them observing your current players day to day or is it more important they're around the majority of players?

i would have thought most of the input would come from the coaching group RE the current set of players.

You’re not wrong mate. Freo is basically the St Kilda of the West, so I can tolerate them, but WCE…

A rare mix of entitled, flaky, arrogant, ignorant and most often ugly/overweight numpties draped in horrid blue and yellow polyester plagues the joint. It’s been a quiet few years thank f*ck!

u ****in wat m8

Yes it is, he had enough of Ratts
That's a fact
Not denying that he'd had enough of Ratts but if you reverse the contracts and its us offering four years I think he stays. So it's a factor.

As for your other post did a twelve year old hijack your account?

Maybe you're right and it's good being based out of Melbourne I don't know. Gags wanted to be based out of Adelaide so it wouldn't work regardless. We are picking up some nice talent from out that way though.

That was probably due to Ratts’ input I’d guess.
so you’re both correct….you’re welcome 😊

I think he definitely would have stayed on a four year contract, but for a contract if that size for a fringe player would be absolutely ludicrous and would have had Gallagher's head called for on a pike by supporters.

He got a 4 year contract at GC good for him, but it would have been absolute negligence on stkildas behalf to offer the same

Apparently we are tighter than expected and it's easier without many stars on your list. Hill and Hanners two of the highest paid players in AFL. Sold existing players at bargain value and paid big for targeted players. He wasn't terrible but had issues.
And yet we nearly pulled of JDG on close to $1m a year for 5 years or whatever it was

I’d say the cap is in a better space then the media lets us believe.

I'm not sure why it needs saying for the 1000th time but; we weren't in consideration in the first place.

It sounds like Bowes was only taking calls from suitors who had shown an interest in him and not pick 7. Gags must have been breaking eye contact to keep looking at that sweet pick 7 instead of at Bowes.

I think you can replace Hanners with JDG but you don't know how much carnage that causes until you have the dozen players coming out of contract next year. It may have cost us Gresham or another player we would have preferred to keep. At the moment Jordy's injury looks like it may have been another lucky miss.
