Moronic might be overstating it, coz without seeing what the potential deal would be, you never know whether it might be worthwhile.

But in realityland, if Freo were to shop him around, you'd pretty much guarantee the return would be peanuts, especially from a ROI perspective.

If you're able to stand back and view it from a rational standpoint, he's still got massive upside. He just needs to play and get some continuity.

A player with his talents and his age bracket, let him go to work on the field if you can and manage the off field stuff there, where it's happening.
Well said completely agree, not all players like or want or handle the spotlight... Let him go to work on the field. If you watch him on the ground he works harder than anyone.

He's a rarity in modern football, in that he seems to actually realise that you need to lead towards the ball carrier more often than just running back towards goal. Our mids and ball carriers should be trained to always be looking for his hit up leads as he'll usually be providing one somewhere.

Yep spot on. It opens up so much space.

The way we are moving the ball at this stage I'm almost happier with him getting 8 marks on the wing than a couple of goals (a big Ross-ism I know). Fix the set up behind him and it becomes immensely valuable. There's a reason you see JK and Darling taking marks up the ground, it provides such a valuable outlet. They just have the coordination and understanding in the forward line such that they know where to run and where to put the next kick.

Defending hard and getting over the back goals is fine, but it's not a sustainable way to score over a full season. We need to work on coming at the ball carrier a bit more.

Hogan worked his arse off this week.

He lead well and if the leads were honored more often he would've had more like 15 marks than 8.

We keep playing him and develop the chemistry

This.

Have a look at the better forward lines in the Comp (Richmond / WC / Port) - they've all played heaps of games together. I CBF looking it up, but Tabs, Jesse and Rory have only played a handful of games together and didn't even have a pre season together to work on synergies.

Keep them on the park and the chemistry will come. The building blocks are there.

What's that signal mean when he has a static possession and he does that swirling circular motion with his hand?
That he wants the players ahead to get out of the leading space so another player can lead into it, and he can kick into the space

Hogan’s biggest issue is Tabs. You don’t see Kennedy run in front of Darling or Darling run in front of Kennedy. Tabs just gets in every other forwards way. The amount of times he spoils Lobb, bowls over Schultz and cuts off leads is a joke.

See ball, mark ball, kick ball is all we can expect from him.

The thing with tabs is it’s not how many goals he kicks it’s how many opportunities he stifles.

Trade tabs while the price is high and back in Hogan and Lobb

Thought he was really good in his first game back and clearly worked hard. Most of his marks were up the ground in lead up. He was able to offer alot of leads inside 50 where he had clear space on his opponent but these were ignored. Very poor decision making going inside 50 for us where we bombed away to congestion/contests. Hope we clean this up in the coming weeks and start to lower our eyes and honor these leads more. Positive signs that he still has it.

Hogan has done **** all for us in two years. He's the one that needs to get out of the way. When was the last time he kicked a goal??

Happy to give him a chance to actually do something but he's got a long way to go.

New club- foot -foot- new coach- mental health -short season- playing without a proper preseason -young team-poor connection to the forwards.
Hopefully thing settle a bit more.

OK Jessie's dad

I know that Taberner is our FF and Hogan our CHF, but how do you think things change if they swap? Hogan as the deepest forward?
They wouldn’t swap. Schulz would swap with Hogan. Lachie is always deepest/last forward, for some odd reason. His height and he’s in that role. Hogan would relish being parked in the goal square. Tabs leads more around the 30-50.

Lobb in his form? He can’t even kick a goal with his mental routine he has going on in his set shots.
Lobb is soft as they come for a guy his size. He should be out positioning defenders, but he doesn’t believe in his size, his power. Tabs is at least more consistent. You get marks and goals from him at an even rate.
Tabs and Hogan would be ideal in that it’s Apple and orange comparison. Hogan is one on one, all power and strength. Hit him on a lead.
Tabs is a contested marking specialist, runs all day and will contest packs.
The question is, do we have the right forward coach? Because right now it’s a cluster snuff. No leading nor blocking each other’s defenders to gain space. They all want a long kick just like king of the pack days.

I counted 5 leads that if Jesse played for another side would have put him in front of goals. He was either cut off by tabs 10m in space or missed.

There is no way we want Tabsup as a high half forward with his decision making. He needs to be treated liked a GS in netball and not leave a 25 m arc

Tabs has had a great year taking marks and kicking some goals and I am very happy for him as he has worked his butt off to improve. You are clearly part of his fan club but even you must see he is far from a perfect player. He still runs into others space and regularly makes brain dead decisions with ball in hand. This is pretty evident in most games with or without Hogan. I think they can definitely play together but will need more time and better structure up forward to succeed.

Prefer it the other way around tbh. Tabs a better 1:1 contested mark and is accurate when kicking <40m but horrible over it. Hogan a better CHF and on the lead.

Jesse Hogan is a brilliant AFL footballer.

Those of you supporters should try to 'support'! He clearly has the talent. He clearly is working hard. We all know his history. He has not had a proper run at it.

He took 2 contested marks on leads inside 50 on the weekend. Should've been more if we could spot him up better. THAT is exactly what we need!!! Missed one and wasn't confident on the next one and passed it off.

Back him in and let's support him. Get behind him FFS and let's give him the chance to build consistency, get a full preseason, work into the game plan and get his confidence up.

There is no guarantee anyone at #6 will play 150 at Freo. Jesse is here, he’s got ability, and he’s got 1 year left on his contract
Exactly. There are no guarantees about _anybody_

Including there are no guarantees that King will return to Victoria at all. He could easily end up a life member of Gold Coast.

Went ok on the weekend for mine...
Clunked a few good grabs, did a few good things, worked hard and looked to be moving really well. The contest and then instinctive hands off to Shultz was pretty good, and the shanked kick from Darcy that Fyfe marked (and missed the set shot)as about to land on Jesse's chest because he'd seen it coming and was already on the move. That's what a natural forward does and what Tabs doesn't do... If Fyfe hadn't happened to be in the hole Jesse would have marked that and probably kicked the goal, all you negative nancy's might be talking a little bit differently... Anyway I think the club is doing the right thing, making sure he's in the right headspace and making him earn his spot. Nothing wrong with that.

Exactly!! Isn't the whole point of supporting your team to get behind and show support for your players? Yes we all know Hogan's baggage, yes we all know he's a party boy in his off time, but he's also a very good footballer, one of our most talented, it's our job as fans to get behind him.
