Let's talk Ports! Part 3

Jasper is a guy who was drafted in the first round and received ample opportunities across many years playing the easiest position on the ground. He was in his 9th year at the club and still oscilating between good and totally shit. Having high standards means moving guys like that on. Heck, DBJ was his equal from game one, and Houston was better than him from game one. I've got nothing against him and hope he does well but he's hardly one that's going to bite us on the ass.

Top 10 for a free player is decent no?

Depends. North finished 12th and sacked their coach mid season so it's hardly the strongest team in the league. We finished 10th and had 2 first year players finish top 10. And Burton wasn't quite steakknives but he was certainly cream rather than cake in the Wingard deal, and he finished top 10 too.

Pittard's game style was hurt as much by our anti-forwards game plan as much as any of our KPFs were.

He freewheels out of defence and then kicks long. When there are no targets, he hesitates and gets caught. There's absolutely a good halfback in there, but it wasn't happening with us and he needed the change.

Pretty frustrating that our next coach won’t get a chance to see what he can do with those who left. Still we have some good young up and coming talent.

Jasper had a good yr this yr good on him he was a good club man I wish all the best.
What pissed me off is we let north get him for steak knives value when a yr or 2 earlier north were chasing him hard we should of good more out of North they were desperate to land someone.

It’s only free if you think that Polec was worth pick 11 on his own. North obviously didn’t because they needed something else to sweeten the deal.

I think we gave North picks to take Pittard off our hands. We may have even continued to pay a portion of Pittard's contract, not sure...

I'm really only looking at it from North's point of view and as far as I can tell, bringing Pittard in was an easy win for them but I don't know enough about the age profile of their list so it's a superficial call anyway.

Well well. After Koche’s comment about we’ve all heard before about 100 percent support for the coach - appearing cynical - if the PAFC comes out supporting the coach, how can you believe them.

What's the background story here?
They all do it, Stars wear the colours of the local sports teams in a concert! He preferred the black over the clown colours.

I liked Jasper, I really did. Good team man. Tried all day long.

But...... he could rip the heart out of his teammates like no one else in the history of football. He took clangers to a whole new level never seen before. Just when the boys were mounting a stirring comeback, you could count on Jasper to not only fluff a 25 metre pass under no pressure, but to miss the ball completely, stub his toe in the dirt and fall over like a drunk toddler. Even then, he somehow had the knack of dropping the ball in such a way that it bounced up into his opponents arms in the unprotected goalsquare.

I know he didn’t mean it, but that was the truly scary thing. I was disappointed he went to North and not Gold Coast in the same way as I was disappointed when the prostitute who gave me the crabs moved into my street. It just wasn’t far enough away for me to feel clean again.

The truly scary thing is your analogy.

I'm sure it's meticulously planned in theory, but impossible to effectively execute. Or it plain sucks.

Whereas Pittard would just say, screw the strategy, I'm doing it this way!

We don't have the kicking skills to execute the gameplan. Nonetheless for most seasons the gameplan has sucked.

I think 'Dumped' is overstating the reality. We moved Jasper on in line with a changed list management strategy, for the benefit of the club AND for Jasper. He was always going to have value in the short term, be it at Port or elsewhere, so the time was right to make the call.

I like Jasper and while he was a frustrating player at times, he genuinely love the club and it's a pity we had to see him move to North last year play some moments of good football. It is still early days though.

It will be interesting to see how he goes with a coach who is much closer to his own age. My hunch is that it will work well for him.

= Dumped.
