Right now we've delisted/traded 4:
Dixon, McKenzie, McCallum and Houston.

We've also recruited 4:
Lukosius, Richards, R Atkins, L Evans

So we need to cut to use any picks.

With 13, 29, 36, 50, you'd think we will look to use at least 4.

So depending on what happens with Soldo, it feels to me like we'll cut:
Narkle, F Evans, K Marshall and/or Scully

I personally would give Boak the extra year, and from here the only other move you could imagine is a shuffle of Clurey and/or Jackson to the rookie list.

At the end of the period we could look something like:

OUTDixonF EvansNarkleHoustonK MarshallScullyMcKenzieMcCallum
INLukosiusRichardsR AtkinsL EvansPick 13Pick 29Pick 36Pick 50CAT B - Benny Barrett

You'd have to say we will enter the new year slightly stronger. Importantly with the SANFL recruiting rules, we may improve our development environment for our kids too.

Not offloading Soldo, moving Clurey on and in particular getting in Atkins is going to really stuff our list management.

We ended with 43 players on our list.

4 are gone. We have 3 come in.

We have 4 realistic NGA/FS players.

We have picks 13, 29 and 36 that could realistically be used before NGA/FS picks. I don’t think Barrett will make it to Category B.

Is there anybody else we can trade (Narkle has been mentioned)? So, how many players will we delist to accommodate this position? We will be looking to trade up?

This is why bringing in Atkins was not smart.
See above. You've forgotten we need to make space for Logan Evans as well.

Narkle, F Evans, Scully and T Marshall are near certain to be delisted now. Only question mark is Boak. Soldo looks to be locked in to stay.

The North offer was even worse than the deal Port accepted.

He burned the bridge during the trade period in particular over the last 24 hours. Not going to elaborate any further than that.

Not that I think the Club should have let him go - it's not as if he could have gone anywhere, certainly wouldn't retire and stay in Melbourne had the Club kept him on their books.

Port's philosophy has long been if a player wants out, don't bother keeping them here.
Forget all of the Houston talk about how he was prepared to stay at Port if a deal couldn't get done. That is absolute BS.

They folded - there's no other way to describe it.

Carlton weren't offering anything more than 12 or 14, and by the end of this saga, Carlton were no longer interested. Voss wanted to get a deal done - but their list manager was never convinced.

North's offer was pick 13 (on traded from the Gold Coast) and a late round sweetener. In the end, Port got the best deal on offer, despite it still being a shitty one.
Interesting to read your posts. Vossy knows Dan well too. So the fact that Carlton were only offering 12 half heartedly, paints a picture in my mind.

I'm expecting boak to retire. Its the only way to partially explain the atkins deal.
If the club had any sense - which, of course, it doesn't - they would have announced Boak's retirement before recruiting Atkins. Now Atkins will be viewed by happy clappers as the player who pushed Boak out, in addition to everything else.

“I told Richardson via email”

Guarantee that Richardson didn’t even read your email… would have just been his secretary -Why would a CEO waste his time replying to a nufty like you!!!

Well he did, and I have the proof. It even resulted in an article about every AFL clubs best players in history being amended to acknowledge Port’s history pre 1997.

Maybe sending a well articulated email from a well respected employers email address got a response when any email you send never would.

Trade radio is going to limp to the line with only Bailey Smith and a potential Brodie Kemp trade left to keep them going.

Looking deeper at our list, I think we might not be left with a choice.

If we delist Dixon, F Evans, Narkle, Houston, McKenzie, Scully, McCallum, K Marshall, we'll be left with 4 draft picks, but also a huge amount of players on the cusp of delisting in 2025.

So if we truly believe 2025 is a shit draft, I would think we will try to cut deeper this year than next.

2025 Delist Candidates:
  • Atkins - CERTAIN
  • Clurey - CERTAIN
  • Boak - CERTAIN
  • Soldo - HIGHLY LIKELY
  • McEntee - HIGHLY LIKELY
  • Jackson - HIGHLY LIKELY
  • Williams - QUESTIONABLE
  • Finlayson - QUESTIONABLE
  • Mead - QUESTIONABLE
  • Charleson - QUESTIONABLE

Marshall is also an on-going risk, plus there's concerns about a return home for a couple of our stars.

There's at least 6 potential delistings there. That's a lot. We can't afford to be hitting a shit draft and taking 6 picks. So we'd be better off clearing 1 more spot this year.

The only way really to offset this, given we don't even have a 2025 1st, is to land some FA's for a change. Offer STUPID cash to Luke Davies Uniacke, or even Ed Richards from the Dogs. Maybe even Caleb poulter from the Dogs.

I think we've ruled ourselves out of being able to do this for the hefty prize of checks notes pick 29

^Even if you split all those delistings over a couple years, we'd have other possible delistings in 2026 starting to bunch up behind it. After 2 more years T Marshall would be a huge chance of being retired, Ratagolea, Burton, Tommy A, all questionable by then, Aliir & Ollie will be going on 33, Rioli & DBJ going on 32.

IMO, our list long term is in a poor spot from a depth point of view.

I'm talking end of 2025, when Boak, Clurey & Ratkins drop off the books, etc. Hopefully we have cap space. If we don't then we're ****ed either way.
We will have Bergman to re-sign and I still fully expect that we will either re-sign Butters next year, or he's gone - so if we want/are able to keep him we will need more money for his next contract.

Logan is the 43rd player when we can only have 42 on our list

Richmond could do worse than nab him with their last pick before Geelong

I would pay money to see that happen and be sitting in the same room as Andrew Mackie on draft night. Even better Richmond trade their pick on draft night for a small loss and the purchaser of the pick takes him.
