Yea we pick up the state league players in the rookie draft, no need to use a gun like McGovern for that. Obviously you’ve probably only seen MM a handful of time cause pick 25 is so unders you either don’t know anything about him or your clearly trolling.

Imagine Carlton getting him for pick 25, they’d be laughing all the way to the bank. If that happens then maybe you can start giving SOS the credit he currently doesn’t deserve but seems to get
You believe anyone worth drafting from the state leagues this year is going to make it to the rookie draft when the best 5 of them will be taken by GC/Carlton before the draft?

MM was overlooked by every club in both the national and rookie drafts and then overlooked again by everyone twice before you finally gave him a lifeline into the AFL, he has been injured for large portions of the last few seasons. There is also the fact most neutrals rate him worth a 2nd round pick but what would they know.

Lets agree to disagree on his value, same as gibbs last year I am happy to wait.

I think our one card here (as opposed to Adelaide having the contracted player here) is continue to hope the Crows want to get into the top 3-4 for JL. It's the only way I can see us getting a decent win here. I continue to mention it but still don't hear the jungle drums strongly in either direction so I suspect the media have NFI.

Assume they want JL -
In which case they won't want negotiations to drag out if it affects their trading ability elsewhere.

Thankfully McGovern isn't a massive cog in any side (not a key mid, number 1 forward or defender etc) so if we really can't get him without giving up pick 1, we should walk away. If he hates us for that, cool, he isn't our player anyway.

We are likely to be taking Walsh, Suns might not take JL if he`s a flight risk so 4 and 5 for the Saints and Dockers might be the Crows trades to get him. Can we give the Crows something that they can package up to satisfy getting pick 4? Do they walk away themselves and trade 8 and 14? (haven't double checked that) for 4 and assure themselves of getting at least Rankine?

Honestly if they can have say 14 and 24 for drafting , and trade 8 and 25 for 4, it's basically 8 and McGovern for the best rated SA kid in years (or pick 1 considering they are likely to take JL at 1 anyway) - future pairing with Dogarty for the next 10 years? Put like that it seems less of a loss...

You have to be smoking something pretty good to believe anyone worth drafting from the state leagues this year is going to make it to the rookie draft when the best 5 of them will be taken by GC/Carlton before the draft.

My point was the state league players value is a rookie draft pick. We would be stupid to accept that. Mitch Grigg is one of the best state league players going around and it was reported today that he hasn’t even been contacted by any afl clubs. Using MM in a trade to bring in a state league player would be as crazy as recruiting Mitch Grigg in the first or second round of the national draft IMO

End of the day Justin Reid will comply. Something is better than nothing. SEN said Crows come out on top with that trade

MM is still training at the AFC gym so if we don’t trade, he plays for us in 2019. I’m sure he is professional enough to continue to play for the AFC.

Simple, it is not like this is his last year of a contract - he has two years to go.

And what would SEN know, Vic centric commentators - FMD!

Probably because our list manager was on radio saying he's not trading Gov for picks in the 20's.

Justin Reid obviously lives on a land with unicorns and elves.

His not getting 1 Pick will get multiple pick in addition all the currency Crows already have in the draft. Terry Wallace and Kane Cornes did a 30 minute analysis in it. Crows won’t lose out of that deal.

Why would Crows give up 2 Second Rd Picks this year when will be in bigger receiving end only getting 1 next years trade season.

Crows don’t understand they still win out of the trade.

There goes all credibility - Wallace and Kane Cornes.

Where did I say anything about Pick 1?

A very good reason is that SEN is wrong.

Carlton is undervaluing MM here. If I had a choice between Lever and MM, I choose MM every time.

Lever still worth more. Blues aren’t undervaluing him. SEN super confident deal gets done. Crows will be smiling exact quote from Kane Cornes, South Australian

When did he say that? He was talking about McAdams other possible state selections, second rounders and was confident a deal would get done.

Or are you talking about Roo when he said that ages ago in his limited capacity as board member?
