This is such a glorious thread.
Here are a few receipts I've kept over the last two very entertaining years on reddit, a rich mine of salty goodness. I think it's fair game to provide links, since they're all on reddit and not bigfooty, and most are archived posts that can no longer even be commented on. But mods, just let me know if not.
The most pathetic attempted troll of all time backfires spectacularly:
After the GWS prelim, a Bears fan was of the belief that "Mason Cox is a lucky man, he would have been dropped after that performance had McStay not been injured." Coxy went on to dominate the ruck and his immense Q4 helped the Pies over the line.
Of course, we all know that Nick Daicos is massively overrated, but did you know he's on par with Ziebell, Hall and Jake Lloyd? "Sometimes stats can be misleading, Collingwood just feed him the ball because he is a great user. Just like how north use Ziebell and hall in previous years. Same with Sydney and Jake Lloyd a couple years back."
Carlton fans are great. Apparently we had "the least convincing 10-win-streak team of all time" last season. I'm sure this year's premiership is, likewise, the least convincing premiership of all time.
Essendon fans are even better. They've forgotten what winning feels like so badly that they've invented the concept of
fake wins. "Winning close games is good, but winning only in close games, feels like fake wins".
And now, a couple of personal favourites. Late last year, a Melbourne supporter doubled down on Collingwood losing so many times - and got each prediction so wrong - that he threw a rage tanty and had his account suspended. In chronological order, so you can sense the desperation rising:
What made this all the more baffling was that he only commented on Collingwood games, and not his beloved Melbourne. Melbourne, meanwhile, pulled off the back-to-back straight sets exit, including infamous losses to Collingwood late last season and in this year's first final. This was clearly too much for old mate to handle, and he completely imploded and had his account suspended.
And finally, a very special poster on the r/AFL subreddit who religiously spammed the comment "regression is coming" after each narrow collingwood victory over the last two years. Like here, here, here, here, here, here, and a bunch more times I can't be bothered tracking down (just look at any collingwood match thread and you'll find him). But the coup de gras was his 2023 "tier list" of teams competing for the flag. True to form:
There you have it, folks. We're actively lying to ourselves.

Having players in a team whose names are too difficult for Richmond supporters to spell, somehow invalidates a Premiership. Even if subjectively you don’t rate them… so what?
It is unfair that our coach had a birthday checks notes about a week ago.
