Autopsy Negatives vs Collingwood - Round 20, 2021

I remarked during the game that it didn't seem like we had a plan for Collingwood running with the ball. It's really disappointing to see us seemingly unable or unwilling to adjust to what opposition teams throw at us. I thought we at least turned a corner the last couple of weeks by taking on the game but we went for the defensive switch from the start and teams are now successfully forcing us to retreat to the defensive 50 from the wing. It's not good enough. Something needs to change in a fairly drastic way this offseason including, but not limited to, our defensive game plan, which now sees McGovern dragged out of the danger zone far too frequently and easily.
Adjust, we are beaten by the same plan every time. Absolutely nothing new in it.

It might be comparable to the Sydney game but I feel Collingwood ran more than most opponents today

If he's 2 on 1 where's the WC spare?
Probably on a wing zoning off or some shit .
Remember before the 6 6 6 the other teams would have a spare in defence and we would have the extra in the midfield (spitter) coming off the square . Good times

At the end of the day as bad as our game plan is it is looking so much worse without effort . We have no one leading to space just long kicks down the line predictable As ****

Let's just take a step back from Jordan Lewis for a second: his accolades outside of squibbing his way to 4 flags are a single AA. This is the same guy that ate a tonne of Eagles shit in the last game of his career. Suddenly has an axe to grind about the Eagles? Colour me surprised! Guy is yet another second rate media member, bald patch and all.

It all comes down to coaching and adapting to the never-ending changes in the game.
Coaches only have a certain amount of time or years before they become stale, complacent or comfortable within their own system = cruise mode..and it rubs off on the players = belief...and then it's time to go!
Long term coaches like Clarkson, have to be ruthless like sharks, but there still comes a time.

The Eagles have had one of the worst injury runs this year. Until now I have put our Cats and Swans losses down to injury and lack of continuity or perhaps you could use the word confidence.

The Eagles had a few weeks of wins, Yeo building and Kelly looking good.

There is no way we can win the grand final this year, there is something fundamentally wrong.

The whole team lacks confidence and personally I think it comes from the midfield.

I was very disappointed to here fans get stuck into our foward line tonight. The balls coming in weren't kick to our forwards advantage.

Eagles desperately need a good midfield .coach. Nathan Buckley would be a fantastic addition to our coaching team. Afterall it was probably one play away from a win in a Grand final. I don't expect that Nathan Buckley will come to WA. Helluva we need someone like him.

If the Eagles managed to scrape into the eight this year that's as far as they will go.

- Entire team looked flat and disinterested in an important fixture. Won’t bother singling our individuals - they’ve wasted enough of my time today.
- 32 tackles. I believe this may be the lowest total of any team this year.
- Total inability or unwillingness to respond. No noticeable increase in effort or desire at any stage.
- Defensive structure has become an absolute joke. Collingwood’s forwards and mids were allowed so much space inside 50. Our players were either standing in no-man’s-land or not working hard to track back.

As the season has gone by it has become increasingly clear that Simmo and the other coaches have lost the players. Our game plan is one thing that isn’t helping but these losses come down to motivation and effort more than anything.
I couldn't watch after the second quarter. But 32 tackles! Abysmal. Embarrassing. Unforgivable. Collingwood are awful this year and we can't even tackle them?
There are some major things broken at the club. The players aren't putting their bodies on the line. The coaching staff and match committee seem to be enabling this approach. The worst season in recent memory.

Same talk, week after week, same excuses, same promises and same crap dished over and over again all season or even over the last two - three years! How long does it take to figure it out and do something about it? I know that if I performed like this in my job, I'd be on the dole by now long time ago! Absolutely disgraceful!

Seems nobody is held accountable and we have to put up with this shit over and over again. Every press-conference after our games is like a broken record - they know, they realise, they'll work on it, they'll fix it quick, they are sorry. Shit like this does not fly in the real world. Madness is doing the same thing over and over again with the same result. They can all fly over a cuckoo's nest.

The blueprint to beat the Eagles is now so well known by the other teams. Yet, we still haven't worked out a way to counter it.

So ashamed of the club and the playing group atm.

There is something seriously wrong with this group....is there infighting going on behind the scenes ???

The question is can Simpson reinvent this side over the summer? The Beatles started off with Love Me Do, and sang Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on Sgt Peppers. You have to adjust and adapt in whatever industry you're in.

Instead of building houses in Cambodia, we should spend next preseason doing a bunch of acid in India. Worth a try!

Simpson wheeled out all the usual favourites in his presser.

The man seems totally bereft of any idea how to get the season remotely back on track.

I won’t be going if the game is indeed next Monday night. Between being the start of a working week and the hassle of getting to Optus for a 5:40pm start it isn’t worth the effort when the 22 blokes taking the field aren’t putting in any effort themselves.

Seriously the culture is toxic atm.
Obviously the guys aren’t responding to Simmo so is it ONLY him or is there other crap going on!?
Leadership group should be completely rearranged for a start.

- Defence is a mess. Holes left right and centre. All defenders being made to look silly on a weekly basis however I think the problem is just as much upfield (i) Gameplan (ii) Lack of pressure on ball carrier
- Midfield gets embarrassed every week. Made even worse by the fact that we've got all these "names" in there - Gaff, Kelly, Yeo, Sheed, Redden, Shuey when fit. On top of that, they are being fed by the best tap ruckman then league has seen in quite a while
- Ball movement is putrid. Forwards never get a chance
- Effort on a weekly basis is poor, putting it kindly. As indicated by the pressure gauge the tv coverage shows, the tackle count, contested ball count, and the fact we are continually beaten to the loose ball.

I think Simmo has the credit in the bank (premiership) to buy himself a year to completely revamp the gameplan and turn it around. However I am very nervous about his contract running another 3 years after this one. And on top of this the lack of effort we see from the players suggests they need a new message (coach).
