Plus defenders are probably more vulnerable to penalties then ever before. Pretty hard to punch the ball one-on-one without giving away the free. I think this is one of the reasons why your good interceptors are more highly valued now. Being able to read the ball and leave your man to help out is a big deal now
That and forwards are trying to bring it to ground to put on pressure. You need blokes who can mark it or you can't win a flag.

That’s how we ended up with the flag last year. Dogs were better at winning the ground ball but not so much marking in the forward 50. I like it better. I’d much rather watch a match with some great marks followed by a set shot then watch a permanent scrimmage where every goal is a lucky snap. Not that I mind a good crumbing snap either, but it’s nice to see the talls acting like talls again. That goes for defenders too. Our back three guys were what made that round one game v Freo slightly watchable

Premiers lately have all had top of the food chain interceptors, Lever, Rance, McGovern, Lake. Dogs didn't but Wood was elite that year.

I’m looking forward to Lever coming back, our backline is almost unwatchable at times without him there given how much we rely on his positioning to cut off attacks before they even happen (either because he intercepts it or he forces the opposition to take low probability chances)

If I'm Atkins or whoever it was I'm giving away that free kick 100× over to bury that annoying Collingwood campaigners head into the ground.

Only 8 or 9 games into his career and is already probably in the top 3 most punchable players in the league.

It annoyed me even more that after he shoved selwood he then went down like a sack of Spuds looking like a little bitch. If you wanna be a campaigner stand up for yourself you little prick

Hes the new Hayden Ballantyne I think, need Scarlett to give him a left hook to the chin.

Don’t recall Crowley ever staging
Wasn't Crowley a bit of a subtle niggler whereas Ballentyne was the main bug or was that someone else? Like Ballentyne would be the main pest and he had a backup?
Crowley was the good kind of campaigner, doesn't belong in the same category as people like Mathieson
K then. Just Mathieson. Could've sworn Freo had 2 incl. Ballentyne.

Mathieson is his own category of tool. Good effort on his part for an otherwise entirely forgettable player

"Beast Mode" Gag me with a spoon.

He is apparently their "barometer"

Tim English is good at drawing questionable frees, although not many of them are ducking. I just wanted to throw Tim English under the bus

Is anyone else not ready for Hawthorn being good again?
I don’t think they’ll hold this form tbh. They’re playing very well but they’re also very young. Losing BBB is a huge blow given their rucks and KPFs are kids. The defence looks amazing though.

Darcy Moore just signed a six-year deal for more than $900k per season. Collingwood clearly didn't learn their lesson with Grundy.

Good player, but that's a mega-star deal.

Really depends on how its loaded. Also expect $900k will become the new $700k when the next tv rights deal is sorted.
