We also need to remember that this information has come out after the Club commissioned the external review - so this isn't exactly a couple of journalists looking for a story, but a club initiated process which has lead to this:

"Hawthorn commissioned a review to look into how First Nations players were treated during Alastair Clarkson's time at the Hawks"

It's going to be interesting to see how the AFL Integrity Unit will act - they also have received the full review
Why would they (hawthorn) initiate a review unless they felt/knew some dodgy stuff went on?

Statement from Hawthorn following this morning's news:

"Earlier this year the Hawthorn Football Club engaged external First Nations consultants to liaise with current and former First Nations players and staff to learn more about their experience at the club.

This important work has raised disturbing historical allegations that require further investigation. Upon learning of these allegations, the club immediately engaged AFL Integrity as is appropriate.

The club will continue to provide support to those who have participated in this process, and their wellbeing remains our priority.

While the process indicated the current environment at the club is culturally safe, it also recommended that some of the club’s current First Nations training and development programs should continue to be strengthened.

The club places the best interests and welfare of our players and staff as our number one priority.

Given the matters raised are confidential, the club will not provide any further comment at this time."

Vast majority of the replies on Twitter aren't complementary, regarding both the statement & accusations within the article - more than a few questioning if they'll remain members or supporters of the club

Apparently Caro has said that NM were aware of this report prior to appointing Clarkson?

Of course, knowing of A report, and knowing what it contains, can be two different things.
Exactly

Was it that North Melbourne knew or were made aware that Hawthorn had commissioned an external review into the club

Or was information within that review released early to North Melbourne?

Considering that the review was given to Hawthorn a fortnight ago, surely it would be hard for North to have any idea of its contents at the time of appointing Clarkson

Rioli

made some really concerning comments about kennet earlier in the year and a draftee treatment at the club…..there’s enough smoke out there
As a previous poster suggested, you'd think that there will be some kind of investigation that is completely independent of the AFL.

The way that Rioli left to me brought on a classic "What's wrong with this picture?" scenario. There always appeared to be underlying themes.

Will be interesting to see how Gil addresses it in about 10 min.

Is there a link to Gil's upcoming press conference?

Can't find any acknowledgement of it anywhere.

I just read the story about what was happening at Hawthorn under Clarkson to indigenous players. I am gobsmacked that such a thing could happen, even at that horrible club. I hope we see civil action here by these victims.

Clarko just signed a 5 (?) year contract, and they love having Fagan up north.

The AFL will find a way out for them.
All contracts have a disrepute termination clause - its bad for North in as much as they again have no coach, and may now lose the Hornet becuase of that, but they shouldn't be out financially.
If the North Melbourne board have either not done their due diligence in the appropriate background checks, or worse have done it and chased him anyway, then they should be held accountable on his appointment which should now be considered untenable.

You can only do due-diligence on information that you have access to, dont see this as an issue

Given the 'family club' had steadfastly relied upon and expanded their pokies that tear families apart, until they got a major windfall from selling them, nothing really surprises me about them.

Of all clubs, they wear the most suiting colours
