Pies 2nd best in both their finals games imo yet are into the Grand Final.

It’s set up for the Lions to get the job done this season.

Yes .

But they won't get near enough fans in the door .

If pies were in the GF last year .
We prob wouldn't of got tickets imo.

The idea that all premiership-winning teams are of identical quality is absurd.
I am not saying that. I was referring to the highlighted, your assertion that our 7,9, 11 teams would have beaten the 3peat Hawks, when we could not beat the 08 Hawks...it's purely guesswork, hypothetical, and impossible.

But the Cats 11 team, imho, was awesome and sits atop that list, just by degree of difficulty and superiority.

The interesting thing to see going into next week will be if Collingwood can reset their emotions after tonight's win - you look at their celebrations immediately following the siren, and it was like they had won the flag

It reminded me of a couple of matches from last year's finals series
  • watching the Brisbane players celebrate following the semi final win, compared with how flat they then came out in the Prelim
  • similar with Sydney in their tight Prelim win over Collingwood, and they never really got out of first gear come the big match

I have no doubt that following last year's Prelim result that Collingwood didn't want to fluff two in a row and be watching next week on TV like the rest of us, but it does feel sometimes that the emotional impact of a win can be more influential the next week compared with the physical toll

You are allowed to show a bit of emotion - they won by 1 pt - aftter looking just about gone early in the 3rd qtr

They had the sheep station riding on that game tonight - there was no tommorrow if they got beat

Pity about McStay - he will be a loss - but i still think they are a certainty next week - Carlton aernt ready or good enough - the Blues have had champion teams many many years ago - their current side isnt a patch on any of those teams - and Brisb 1st half at home against Port was very ordinary - bar bad kicking - Port would have been 3-4 goals in front at h/time

Collingwoods opponent next week will be no where near as good as GWS were tonight

No shit, that's the whole point of the conversation. I'm telling you an opinion based of my subjective appraisal of the relative quality of different sides. Obviously. I never tried to suggest otherwise. Many discussions are based around subjective claims, it's kind of a normal thing people do when they exchange opinions with one another. I'm honestly amazed I even have to explain this.

Pies players and fans are a bunch of fuuuu wits .

They both were carrying on Round one last year lots of carry on.
The way hey treated Ollie .

And they way they were carry on last year finals.
Cats got away with it, they know it ...bah bah .

They boo every one from the opp team like a motorcycle gang us vs them ..

So you think it would be fair if they make the GF last year they get more tickets than us ...

I think you either joined the Darkside.
Or been hit in the head .....😹

At billy Goggin .

I get your point.
You misunderstand my point.
Anyway, apologies for inadvertently boycotting your attempted discussion of different premiership teams
Last year we were awesome, yet struggled to beat the Pies, and they are a better team this year....
I only wanted to bring up the point of how we were amazing in 07, 08 even more so, yet we could not win that flag.

Can’t agree, brutal, combative game.

Geelong was nowhere near that level at any stage this year.

There is more to football than skill and names on the team sheet.

I wasnt talking about geelong specifically more the standard of the league in general. Tonight was great for competitiveness was really great but the skill level was really poor compared to the best teams 10 years ago and borderline unwatchable unless you dont care about skills imo. The amount of guys that cant keep their feet and dump kick and use knock ons to mask the fact that they cant incisively handball..my gosh.

Its only going to get worse when the 19th team comes in and dilutes the talent pool further.

Totally irrelevant.
Peak Hawks in their 3peat may have beaten peak Tigers.
Peak Cats 7,9,11 may have beaten 3 peat Hawks?
Now is now, and you can only beat the rest of the comp as it exists.
There is more pressure on each team each year, and we saw how we handled pressure this year.
If you'll excuse me, I would like to propose any hypothetical based off personal opinion that I'd like.

"Now is now" is mundane in the extreme. I do have a grasp on how reality works, thanks.

Yeah, you explained this a lot better than I could.

The two buzz phrases any time quality between sides/eras is raised are "who cares?!" and "salty!". It's not about that at all.

But just like I can say a winery put out a better merlot in 2006 than in 2023, I can say the same about football sides/comps in my highly subjective (i.e the point of forums) opinion.

In what order would you rank the quality of the premiership-winning teams from 2012 to now in terms of how good they were at their best?

I'd put them something like this:

1. Hawks 2013-15
2. Geelong 2022
3. Richmond 2017,19-20
4. Melbourne 2021
5. West Coast 2018
6. Sydney 2012
7. Bulldogs 2016

Collingwood if they win the flag this year I'd rank as around the same level as the 2012 Sydney team. Or maybe slightly below them.

Btw, every single team on this list except the 2013-15 Hawks would have been utterly annihilated by the 2007-11 Cats. And the 07-11 Cats still would have beaten that Hawks side.
I wouldn't make too many adjustments from this. Richmond were ugly yet effective, but I still believe peak Geelong 2022 and Hawthorn 2013-2015 would've had the skill and firepower to overcome them. Eagles did thrash them in 2018 but it was over in Perth. Likely a repeat of the Adelaide/Richmond 2017 GF would have occurred.

I think you’re really underselling Brisbane, to me the only question mark is whether they can do it at the MCG (admittedly it’s a big question mark).

They are as ready as they’ll ever be. Two elite mids in Neale and Dunkley, elite KPPs at either end in Daniher and Andrews, the best small forward in the comp. Great run from the backline in Coleman and McKenna.

I think on paper they’re the most balanced side in the comp with stars on most lines.

Hence why I specified that I was ranking the teams in order of how good they were "at their best" rather than just "how good were they when they played one another."

Peak Geelong 2022 was significantly better than peak Collingwood 2022. I would argue it's crazy to suggest otherwise.
Collingwood have been competitive against all teams, including us, the past two years. And yet you say if they win they’ll be the equal worst premier since 2012.

Anyway, all fun and games.

That was one of the worst standard prelims in a long time as far as quality goes.

I hope the missed opportunity hits the geelong players deep because this is a bradbury year for sure.
The sheer number of repeat intercepts on both sides during patches of play when the game was hot indicated very little control or thinking on the part of the players

Damn it was fun to watch though. Shame the orange tsunami couldn't get it done. I think they have a bit of a case to be filthy about the umpiring too. Not egregious but bad.

First the GWS players need to re-attach their heads. Then they can think about the umpiring.

Such a shame for GWS, great effort, just not quite enough poise to win, but enough to scare the Pies fans...... small consolation that low scoring game prevented a cocky Collingwood chant.
And all that tells me they are gettable. Say it's so......

Or if Bris Vegas kick the bags out of the Blues tonight, and again in the GF, ala us in 2022........pls
Brisbane certainly are the least worst option remaining for dealing with smug fans over the summer.

Their players might be d*heads but I don't have to talk to them

This is the non-invested onlookers quandary. I loathe Zorko the mouth, but then there's Lachy on the bright side. Carlton is beyond sympathy for me, although if they did a 2016 and beat the old enemy that could be amusing. Decisions.
