I've never seen so much smoke blown up the arse of a team that had beaten up on such mediocre opposition without leaving their home ground.

Dogs aren't a bad side, and they probably will be a great side in the future, but they're going to have to find some (any) talls before they seriously challenge for a top four berth.
I wonder if they regret taking Matt Fuller 5 picks before BB in the 2013 draft :D

Well what a ripping defensive effort by the guys tonight. Great Work by the players and Kudos to my mate in the Coaches Box along with his assistants. :stern look

Waite does it again. When he kicks 3+ Goals we Win! He was huge.

Scotty 2 Hotty Thompson was great in defence. Intercept mark after intercept mark. When the midfield apply the necessary pressure our backline looks great.

Wellsy tore it up early and continued to work hard around the packs. Loved his game.

Rapt with the outcome. Now let's get up for Big Drew in his 300. The boys should be primed. :stern look

Lachie Hunter: worst 44 disposal game ever?
Did absolutely nothing with the ball.
Would seriously run forward 5 metres and kick it 30 metres sideways.
Then get it back and kick it 40 metres backwards diagonally. He is as soft as they come.

It was quite clear to see tonight that the pressure upfield helped the defence play as well as they did. I think the biggest difference between 2015 North Melbourne and this years version is the pressure on the ball carrier, and also the tackling from every player has improved incredibly. So many of the Bulldog kicks were just hacks forward which floated for a long time, the defence did their part and positioned themselves well and picked them off, but it was great to see all positions on the ground defending the ball carrier as hard as they could.

Summation of posts elsewhere after our victory...

We were meant to fall away after our lucky prelim appearance in '14 while the other losing prelim team in Port were going to overtake Hawthorn.
All our players aged over 30 were meant to fall apart this year after we got lucky against a Richmond team that would surely improve on 3 elimination final loses.
Let the haters keep hating, we'll just keep rolling.

I think I mentioned a few weeks ago when we were conceding cricket-like scores about how often we see our mids chase down and tackle someone outside of a stoppage, that the desire and intent to restrict wasn't there in the middle.

Seeing Cunners chase down that dogs player...

That is what we have been missing, was stoked to see that intent to stop the opposition waltzing into our defensive 50. Last night was the gold standard for defensive intent, what was it, 92 tackles?

Not bothering to visit their board, but anyone who didn't see that the game was 100% North's and the Dogs were only close because of their pressure and flooding, the umpires, and North errors, doesn't know much.

Dogs have been unlucky with injuries - but as Suckling was only playing because the others weren't, they are only down two backs, one very good player and leader and one in good form. The fact their forward line was poor is not bad luck - they took an arrogant punt on Crameri that didn't pay off, Boyd hasn't played that well anyway, and for the smaller guys to function as well as last year they need zip through the middle. Their contested ball and clearance work and pressure at the ball and opposition is fantastic, but absolutely zero attacking flair last night - and flooding has never been sexy football.

They have played two decent sides this year for two losses and been found out, outcoached and outplayed. I wouldn't be surprised if they miss the finals in 2016.

Spot on - last few years if we lost the clearance, the opposition usually got a clean disposal away, making it hard for the backs - not so last night. With only 20 fit players in the second quarter, to keep that intensity up for the whole game was huge. The tackling was awesome, especially given how often the Dogs duck and buckle at the knees.

I forgot that! The new Duckers.

Another very mature display in many ways but you can see why Scott was unhappy at half time. Despite wonderful team defence and excellent performances from many players our execution at times was way off with poor disposal in the forward half when in good position to take advantage costing us a number of scoring opportunities (as opposed to the dogs shit kicks in the defensive half or simply bombing it into our defenders laps).

That said i am now convinced that we can play the game style required to beat any given opponent, not just simply sticking to what works for us and hoping it isnt figured out. It is key now to make sure we do the absolute best we can to keep the players fresh and focussed over the next 3 weeks in order to have them primed for the tough run from round 10 onwards. It is in that block where real statements will be made and i am convinced that this team can make them.

Good win. The game had some real heat. The tackling pressure was a real feature and it showed how even the most skillful teams can be horrible by foot if they are under enough pressure, perceived or direct. I love your tall forwards at the moment. All 3 are playing great footy and seem to gel as a unit. I can't believe how well Waite has gone since he came over to you guys. I never rated him at all at the Blues. You have some absolute beast mids too who are widely under-rated. This year is your window... don't think it will extend to the end of 2017 though so hope you can make the most of it.

We should have won by at least 6 goals. Three clear marks not paid (Waite in the 1st, Goldstein in the 2nd and Petrie in the last) plus a bunch of other diabolical umpiring decisions, a player down from qtr time and all that. We still dominated them and never looked like losing.

Defence was amazing, Thommo back to career best form, was brilliant. Best I've seen LMac play, JMac was huge, Sammy and Spud were good also. Tarrant is a star - such a smart and skillful footballer.

Mids did what they had to do, and Jarrad Waite..... amazing. Was the difference.

EDIT: credit to Swallow for his continued improvement, and also to Daniel Wells for another stellar pressure game, as well as using it (apart from the odd clanger, and head-scratching shots for goal). Jack's 55m set show was awesome, Cunners had a great last quarter again.

Crowd was as loud as I can recall, all night. We are on the move, folks. These are amazing times.

I would have been annoyed too. We were still in control, but we probably wasted 3-4 simple chances through poor disposal. In a low scoring game that could have had the game basically iced half way through the 3rd.
