We have some pretty good depth right now.

Injury free, this would be my team (most will disagree I know)

Back Marley Brown Toovey
HB Maxwell Keefe Seedsman
C Young Pendlebury Harry
HF Fasolo Reid White
FF Kinezo Cloke Elliott
RUCK Beams Swan Grundy

Inter Ball Adams Blair
Sub Thomas

I know I've missed people, I just can't think of them. I don't know what to do with all this depth.

I'm all for naming a best 22 now, but wtf have Karnezis etc done to get a spot for round 1? Or are we just naming a team with new guys just because it looks different and change is good?

Blue = returning from injury

What an exciting team! Look at the quality of players who miss out on this starting 22! This side looks highly-skilled, with great midfield depth a good mix of talls and smalls, lots of marking power and capable of fast ball movement.

THE ONE BIG WORRY - WHO TAKES THE KICK-INS? Marley?

Williams Brown Sinclair
Sidebottom Reid Seedsman
O'Brien Beams Young
Swan Cloke Macaffer
Elliott White Lynch

Grundy Ball Pendlebury

INT: Adams, Blair, Maxwell
SUB: Goldsack

EMG: Dwyer, Kmart, Bennedy, Hudson, Karnezis, Keeffe.

Wasn't really that hard :)

After this year, I think it was proven you definitely need a 3 tall forward line, particularly when the ruckman is resting, and I think we look much better with a two tall backline with somebody like Goldsack or Toovey taking the 3rd tall just to give more run. Cloke, Reid and White look the starting three forwards with Brown, Keefe back. With Hawthorn losing Buddy, our three talls look as good as any except maybe Sydney.

Buckley has shown he likes the run with role (except v GC) so I think Macaffer is a lock.

Not sure who yet, but I expect some interesting moves tried to give us more drive off half back. Excluding the talls, not sure the back four of Toovey, Williams, Seedsman and a newbie as some are suggesting can go man on man and give us drive as well. Wouldn't be suprised to see a Sidebottom, Karnesis, Dwyer or Fasolo to get groomed for the role, particularly with Dwyer's and Fasolo's foot skills. We have an absolute plethora of people to rotate through the forward line so we could spare one or even two. The risk is if they are fit enough to give us run all game or to shake a forward tag but I think Fasolo and Dwyer have the builds to handle one on one. Fasolo and Sidebottom may have the smarts also.

With so much depth, maybe we can start thinking strategically about the sub - somebody who can bust a game open and win it with hard forward running, linking and ball usage - maybe a fit Karnesis can do it as drifting forward at 190cm maybe dangerous for goals also.

For fun, and 5 months out:

Williams Keefe Toovey
Dwyer Brown Fasolo
Harry Ball Young (Seedsman)
Elliot Cloke Beams
Reid White Sidebottom

Grundy, Swan, Pendles

Int: Macaffer, Adams or Thomas, Goldsack (cover for all talls / backs if you get an injury)
Sub: Karnesis

And I can't wait for Broomhall and Picks 6 & 10 put pressure on the above. Blair - you are one injury away from playing!!

To come in the side:
Toovey (Knee)
Young (Will probably be injured like he always is)
Scharenberg (Bucks will make him prove himself before he plays, but if we land him with pick 6 he will be a revelation for us and possibly the missing link)

Still don't know if we can rely on Grundy to ruck all year, and i'm a bit iffy about Seedsman's defensive capabilities, but both best 22's look very solid.

i dont think i would have put one name different. sinkers and maxwell will always get a game, at least round 1 anyway. blair will never miss and i would have young missing too. and I had the exact same thought on seedsman, his defensive work is his weakness. Seedsman does love being the hero which is his biggest weakness and he has to learn to value a good defensive play as much as an offensive and he will be a star. and i agree, if grundy can ruck all year ill be astounded, witts is more than capable of giving him a chop out when required, obviously hudson too.

Bloody hell it's hard to come up with a best 22, makes for a hard and competitive pre-season.
I will give our best 22 a crack rather than rd 1 team:

FB: Williams Brown Toovey
Pretty self-explanatory really
HB: Seedsman Keeffe Harry O
Although Harry O was a revelation on the wing, I believe he needs to move back a line, simply because I don't believe we have anyone else that is capable of playing there whilst providing good run that we desperately need. Even though he can be susceptible defensive at times, I'd rather have him at HB than someone like Young.
C: Sidebottom Ball Young
Pretty self-expalanatory again, hopefully Young can remain fit.
HF: White Reid Swan
White does his best work further up the ground and will do some relief work in the ruck, hopefully he can still kick his 1-2 goals a game. Reid should stay fwd as he has the ability to kick 50 next season. We saw how damaging Swanny can be up FWD in the EF, with the inclusion of Adams and a fully fit Ball + Beams from RD 1 I reckon we could split Swanny's game time between FWD and MID.
FF: Elliot Cloke Fasolo
Hopefully Fas can get himself fit as I reckon he could be a huge player for us next year
R: Grundy Beams Pendles
Need I say more
I/C: Adams Thomas Karnezis
Adams probably replaces Blair in the lineup although realistically Bucks loves Blair and for a reason so the little man probably gets a game. JT was great this year and should only improve :thumbsu: PK I genuinely believe will be a revelation for us next year as someone who if he plays most games can kick 30+ goals.
Sub: Goldsack
Basically gets a game for me because of his versatility. Almost there because we expect an early injury rather than for meaningful impact at the end of a game. This is sad to say but it has been the reality of our injury history the past two years. The Sack has the ability to replace most players on the ground that may get injured early and do an adequate job. Touchwood it doesn't happen though.

Realistically though Maxy will probably continue to play atleast early on in the season even if not captain. So will Blair as Bucks seems to love him and his defensive work is great.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Scharenberg or Aish take that HB role if we manage to grab one of them at pick 6.

What excites me the most is our newfound scoring power and hopefully our ability to be less reliant on Trav. He should still kick his 60 a year but now he has others around him that can provide the scoring.

Pies Goal spread in 2014
50+:Cloke & Reid
35-40: Elliot
30-35: White, Fasolo & Karnezis
20-30: Swan, Beams & Sidebottom

This is obviously in an ideal world in where all these players play most games next season.

Not a big concern about the kick ins.. We were crap at it anyway, even with Shaw doing it, so can only be up from here!

I play a lot of AFL Management games.

Adams and Blair be a interesting Battle between the 2. I say it's very close now but Adams be the Better Player in the Future

Exactly. Their returns are early to mid year.
Fasolo will make it back for round 1. Toovey will be close but i wouldn't expect him until around round 7-10. He'll make it back before Ball did from the same injury.

My updated team

B- Sinclair Brown Williams
HB- O'Brien Keeffe Reid
C- Young Adams Sidebottom
HF- Beams White Fasolo
F- Elliot Cloke Karnezis
R- Grundy Pendlebury Swan
I: Thomas Kennedy Dywer Sub: Mooney

Emergency: Goldsack Ball Macaffer

Might of forgotten someone. Made the heartbreaking and somewhat controversial call to not put ball in the best 22. I feel with his age and his knee reco/groin issues his best is well behind him. Think bucks will continue to get games into youth, and with Adams and Thomas as the specialist inside grit we don't really have room for ball :(.

Of course we will have injures and young kids like broomhead ramsay +pick 6/10 should get a fair few games too. Feel like 2014 will be Ball's last year and he may struggle for consistent games
