A crowd of just 10,000 would be an improvement on GWS home games where they have averaged less than 9,000 a game in 2023.

In round 3 Hawthorn v North Melb (UTAS), GWS v Carlton (Giants Stadium) and Gold Coast v Geelong (Heritage Studium) drew a combined crowd of 33,820. The highest attendance among those three games was 13,122 at the Suns v Cats fixture. Crowds of 14,000- 15,000 would be an improvement on those attendances.

There are only two all Victorian fixtures Collingwood v St Kilda and Essendon v Melbourne and neither of these would be described as Traditional blockbuster games.

On SEVEN this morning it was mentioned that all but two games had been sold out. I do not know if that is correct but if it is the AFL would probably figure they are in front given the fixtures for this round.

It's correct.

They said this morning that Friday night at the parade is 100 tickets away from being an 8th sell out.

On the ABC this morning they said that tickets had been reduced to half price for the Richmond v Sydney and Freo vs SUNS games, so these must be the two games that hadn't sold out.

Wow. That would move the AFL well and truly into the "content provider" space and away from anything to do with, for example, its grassroots. Expect to see more AFLX-type initiatives. Can't wait

Certainly knows her football.

SA’s AFL Gather Round has broken a state hotel occupancy record set only last month during WOMADelaide.
Premier Peter Malinauskas revealed the new citywide record of 91 per cent and 92 per cent hotel occupancy for Friday and Saturday nights. He revealed the record at Norwood Oval on Thursday, where plans are well advanced to host one game on Friday and one on Sunday.

WOMADelaide in March this year topped out at 90 per cent and 93 per cent occupancy, the same as the Gather Round, but the AFL weekend has higher bed night figures at 9588 on Friday and 9693 on Saturday. “This has paid off already for SA and the first ball has not even bounced,’’ he said. Mr Malinauskas paid tribute to the work of Norwood Payneham and St Peters council which has upgraded Norwood oval and organise street activities on The Parade.

It's about the only way Norwood is ever going to see an AFL game in Norwood. The game will probably have a lot of 'wish we had Redlegs' in attendance.

Gee, you'd hope they were "well advanced" by now, hey?
