Watching the replay, Hurn played a fantastic game, started the game strongly and finished it of exceptionally in extra time.

Sheppherd redeemed himself with some amazing closing speed spoils late in the game as well. Redden had an almost RoJo like moment in the centre of the ground with 1 minute to go.

Darling's game is even better than I thought, he didn't kick goals but his defence was superb, same goes for Kennedy. The game didn't go his way with our midfield but when the ball hit the deck he won some very important one on ones to set up team mates and draw the Port defenders.

Cripps and Lecras really mixed bags. Cripps defensive work was huge, he was bouncing all over the shop trying to get to people to lay a tackle, but his lack of left foot hurt a few times when he tried ridiculous right foot bananas in high pressure situations. Lecras tackled strongly and lead up the ground well late and in Extra Time but needs to put his "sidestep" to bed and hand off in the future.

Not much more to add, but the team played well, Priddis in the last was huge.

Unreal. I hugged strangers.

The game nearly killed me, but what a way to finish. Absolutely loved the never say die mentality.

And what a time to stand up from Priddis, Darling, Kennedy and Jetta. About time and what a fashion to do it in.

Still smiling today, football affects me way too much emotionally, but it's moments like these that make it worthwhile. It's the purest ecstasy since Carl Williams was in the kitchen.

Cripps and Gaff need to have a competition in the preseason to see who can improve their non-preferred more.

Turned the big hand back way too far

Game was great and awful and glorious and ****ed. We need to win the ball on the ground, Adelaide bring the ball to ground and dominate. Were in dire need of a skilled crumber last night. Kennedy got such poor delivery at times, a nimble small forward is key.

Darling has had a great back half of the year, probably his best year for the club so far. Great resilience

Our backline is amazing, give thanks for the Gov, what a game he played!

This stat from AFL website, "they (Port) led the inside 50s 63-46," shows how well the defensive unit played (again).

When our defence collectively turns on beast mode, it is game over for the oppo. I mean seriously, the amount of times they face clean ball coming in as result of poor defensive pressure up the field and still nullify attacks is bloody impressive.

Has to be considered close to the best defensive unit in the league. Their ability to repel repeat inside 50 entries again and again has won us several games this season.

For mine Richmond of last year were a much worse side than us. Add prestia and caddy to their midfield and Martin goes from a grader to best in league and they are essentially top 2. WE really need to go hard and even sell the farm for more midfield power and skill.

Richmond also kept their coach but replaced all of their assistants..

Ok I've allowed the dust to settle and compose. The positives have all be said, the plaudits duly given out. Petrie, Shuey, Priddis, McGovern and Hurn all had truly exceptionally games.

The major negative for me was our lack of a plan B when Port turned the screws and started to gain momentum. When we had the ball deep in defense and across HB, all we did was bomb down the line to congestion. The brilliant reverse camera angle showed it time and time again how well Port clogged it up. GWS will destroy us with their fast, skillful mids if we do that. The great news is that the team can discuss and work on it this week instead of tipping in Mad Monday bevs like Port.

Now that the dust has settled and i've calmed own, thought i needed to make a trip to emergency during and after the game, thought i was having a heart attack, the tightness in my chest was crazy from all the tension, not sure why though, i'm generally pretty calm during games. My wife resorted to mixing black russians straight from the bottle into the mouth to calm her nerves, she was standing there swigging from the Vodka and Kahlua bottles :D

We won and that sure beats losing any day of the week, but when we look at the game in the cold light of day we were very lucky to win that, i'm not giving it back, we played a team that is very much like us, flakey and cannot put teams away. Some straight kicking and we were done, we played a great 1st quarter, a good ten mins the second quarter and then went MIA when Port lifted the intensity and run, only a couple of late goals in the last from our retiring players, and some heart in the OT, which was finally good to see, got us over the line, why can't they play like they for longer during games baffles me.

Our achilles heal showed up again during the middle part of the game, just no run from the mids, no one to break the line and create some easy options for our forwards, we become very stagnant easy, and just bomb it forward and hope our forwards can take big pack marks, our forwards are not that type of player, they are at their best when they can get out in space, not too many defenders can keep up with JK and Darling in space. We are very lucky we have an A grade back line that can stand up under the constant heat they are getting, sure their were a few mistakes from them, but without them we are stuffed.

Positives

Our back line, just keep bailing us out of trouble all night long.

Priddis was awesome if only you didn't need to be able to run both ways, he could probably go for another few years.
McGovern get him re signed now at whatever he wants, he needs to be the corner stone of this team for a long time, lets not forget he has only played 78 games and he is a two time all Australian.
Vardy and Petrie for makeshift ruckman they were exceptional, Ryder had very little influence on the game.
Shuey ice cool under pressure, when he got the free i was pretty sure we would win.

Negatives

Our lack of midfield speed is scary, only Shuey has genuine speed, all others we have their are one paced at best, Priddis and Mitchell are retiring and we will replace them with Redden and Sheed, no real change other than a younger version of them in terms of pace.

Lecras, surely he has to be pushed out the door, the guy is cooked, it has been a great career for him, but he just cannot contribute long enough any more.

Positive: The look on Fremantle fans faces the exact moment the umpire blew the whistle for Shuey

Pos:
The backline as a unit refused to crack under immense pressure in the 3 rd quarter when the ball was locked in the Port fwd line.

The believe and bond of the players to never give up and chase down the leading PA who got a few goals in front twice in a away game with odds heavily against them ..

The spread of efforts in the extra time so many players added a positive 1% was all about the team ..

Neg :

The goal umpire who called Wingard's goal clearly touched and a point when he called touched off Pittards jumper ..

Shep overrunning the loose ball he pooped his pants and allowed SGray a easy goal..

May not be much but Sheed missing a sitter of a goal after Ryder was penalised for not nominating..

Priddis trailing an opponent getting the exit ball out of Port defence ..

Was a momentum killer.

I love Sheed to bits and he did some ok things Saturday night but he needs to find another gear in finals.
