  • Showing a lot more dynamism in congestion.
  • Running to provide options has been good.
  • Pressure on opposition forward entries much improved.
  • Forward pressure much improved.
  • Jones has been impressive especially his efforts when not in possession.
  • Our aerial presence is still disappointing other than Reid who is VERY promising.
  • If we had an extra small forward or 2 wed have got away from them early. Gresham gives me a bit of hope though.
  • Martin kicks goals. He needs to get the ball forward of centre so still not sure where that leaves the whole HB experiment. He’ll have to do a lot of running to be all things it seems.
 
Biggest change from last year to this year is Essendon being more physical at the tackle. Not as many being broken, not backing down from some collisions and how that has affected Geelongs disposal.

In the past Essendon players would avoid contact and try for the smother which would give oppo players enough extra time for an easy kick understanding that proximity doesn’t mean real pressure.

They are doing that better tonight
