We definitely lacked abit of size in the middle. The guys in there for the most part played well, but we got hurt by being dispossessed in tackles by some of their bigger bodies, which let the ball out the front. Sometimes it was just a deflection but west coast def got the rub of the green in the deflection department.

The other thing that cost us was poor disposal under pressure. Heppell Kelly leverde McGrath and Ridley gave up goals when we had clear possession and instead of giving it to our runners we gave it directly to wce and we were found out of position defensively. Maybe was the cobwebs of the bye.

Mostly positive in a must win game for us

Surprisingly high standard game. I thought West Coast were very good. Exceptional marking side.
they’re better defensively than a lot of clubs, barrass & mcgovern are both very good players

I thought it was mostly getting sucked into the contest and not holding the space.

As horrendous a display of umpiring as I have seen. What the hell has happened to holding the ball?
We had 4 frees to 10 at 3qtr time. There was only one free to us in the 3rd qtr which was not even in general play (tummy punch by Ryan after play had stopped). How can a team not win a single free kick in general play for a whole qtr? How? How the ****? ****en how?

ben mckay now has more wins at essendon than he did at north over 6 years

I don't think the umpiring was just bad (both ways)
It was also completely differently than most other games. There's always howlers, but this game was just interpreted different all day. I guess the positive is it was consistent.

Now we wait and hold out breath to see if Redman or Draper have any case to answer from our good chook lotto MRO.

I think they failed to call htb all day. They generally didn't blow the whistle
HTB was bewilderingly back to early season interpretation. How are players supposed to adjust and play intuitive football anymore?

It was shit, eggs. Like really shit. We are allowed to complain because we won.

Rotham also did an excellent job on Langford, probably got lucky with a few holding free kicks not given away but gave Langers very little.

Barrass marked everything that went near him. He was great.
I’ve always rated Barrass but we stupidly kicked to him and McGov all game, even when Stringer was having a shot from 40m out and Barrass was the only player within 20m of goal, he managed to kick it to him. He might be a literal footy magnet.
