Review R1: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. St Kilda

We are short an elite ball user coming out of D 50. Muz and Keane should not be distributing from there.

Today reaffirmed one thing:

NMW is exactly what we need.
He was a class above the rest of the Saints.

Hilarious to read folks here wanting to shit on the win because St Kilda had 7 players out.

Seven?

It was Phillippou and Max King. Michito Owens is okay but went backwards last year. Then who? Dan Butler? Liam Henry? None of the players they had out matter.

They were underdone. But that's also just what their side is. All you can do is beat who's in front of you, and we did that well.
Also need to factor in preparation eg Rowan Marshall played but his prep was so poor he could barely even go into ruck and he just struggled to get around the ground as a forward

We’ve had a very smooth pre season with all our guys doing most sessions and they have not

Curtin's second half was perfectly fine. At the level required. It was just his first half that was disappointing. Glad he was afforded the chance to work his way into the game.

Laird and Crouch were both great in their roles. Yes, they get a lot of little handballs etc, but that's what they're best at, and they have players all around them who have great legs but less ability to accumulate the ball than Laird or Crouch. It's absolutely their role to win the ball and dish out short passes - backwards if needed - to better users. I was happy with both today.

Yeah, underdone for Marshall and Sinclair.

But to say there were seven important players not out there just isn't true. What they dished up is pretty much what they are

That was just an enjoyable game to watch. After last year’s start… I’ll take this every day of the week.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything Woz did, Sog just gets better and better and it was great to see Rash with assists and goal.

Happy days (and way better than sitting through Carlton on Thursday - my husband is a diehard)

There were 5+ players ahead of him, maybe more. Great player, but was only okay today and made a few errors.
Errors are more acceptable than you think

He was given a licence to get the saints going and be aggressive with his ball use

The margin might have been huge if he wasn’t playing

Can see why we are heavily into him

22 disposals to 14.

8 marks to 2.

They're more important stats than a few hitouts, surely.
8 clearances to 3 and hit outs 47 to 32. thems ruckmen stats.

Neither got a magarey medal vote Mitch O'Neill 3 votes, Matt Ling 2 votes, Billy Cootee 1 vote.

How nice is it to see a new player come in, and the club immediately says "he's a clearance midfielder" and just plays him there. No getting thrust into the half-forward graveyard, no rotating through half back, no getting 1-2 CBAs per game. Draper was born to impact on stoppages and thankfully, our coaching staff seem to realise it.

100% natural.

Bit like Max. Ready from Day 1.

Not worried about Curtin at all. He does some super classy things. Keep playing and if they think about dropping him they should stop thinking that and just keep playing him.

Yeah similar thoughts here, did some things where you can clearly see a high calibre player. Has to be fast tracked this year and leaving him on and not subbing him is a good sign.

We ticked every box I could have possibly asked for.

I am not going to sit here and try and find a reason to whinge if none exist
