I wonder how Tim Silvers feels right now knowing he staked his reputation on having good judgement on Matthew Nicks?

Guy won't touch a CEO role again.

He shouldn't be coaching next week if we're serious
If Nicks isn't sacked by Monday then this club is just taking the piss.

To any club worth their salt, tonight's game was a coach killer.

There's no coming back from that

Honestly, I would have been annoyed if we pinched that. Unacceptable football that wouldn't beat a single side in the comp other than North Melbourne. Even West Coast would have beaten us tonight.

Dowling looked good when he was actually put anywhere near the ball.

Three players with their first career goal. Shame it came in an utter embarrassment of a match.

Strachan has moments but I just don't think he's an AFL player. We desperately need a new ruck. It's almost to the point where we need to target a genuine experienced ruck as a trade.

If I see one more Crows player slip over at a crucial moment I'm going to ****ing lose it.

I know i should be angry we lost
But it actually gave me hope that something might change instead
Feels weird
Nothing will change this week but it maybe the beginning of the end for Nicks and Co.

This year hasn't been a total waste. We have seen Soligo grow, Nankervis has shown he will be a good player for us, Pedlar still has to come back, Cook as a newbie has shown plenty of promise and tonight we saw Dowling show some potential. But tonight I reckon Dawson wasn't 100% fit and we didn't have any cohesion or leadership direction with how we moved the ball forward. Our execution was poor. Why our players receiving the ball couldn't hold onto the ball and fumbled so much was disappointing. Our leadership direction didn't exist and I fear that without Tex next year our coordination/direction could look bloody horrible. To see Butts step and stumble and didn't know what to do with the ball was out of a high school game.

Not impressed at all tonight.

50+ years of watching footy, this is how it goes with footy clubs.

You get people in the key roles and give them 5 - 6 - maybe 7 years to have a crack.

Doesn’t work - either review, add resources and persist (a la Bomber Thompson and Hardwick) or try to (Hinkley) or p*ss them off, bring in a new group and let them have a crack.

That’s where we’re at.

Nicks did the job of rebuilding relationships and culture after the camp. He’s taken them as far as he can, now we need a different type of coach.

And sometimes you don’t nail the 5 year rebuild and your senior players (Tex, Crouch, Laird, Smith) get too old and can’t hold their form long enough for the youngsters to get good enough so everyone can win a flag.

So the Dawsons and Fogartys and Hinges become the new senior players, and you continue the rebuild.

And here we are.

Last weeks loss to Hawthorn was the coach killer.

The loss tonight proved there's no coming back from that.

There's something really off about the Crows players' contested marking this year. But tonight was the worst example.

It's not that they lack physicality or technique. Rather they just completely misjudge the drop of the ball and where opponents are and stop competing. At least once every game you'll see a Crows player nudge an opponent "under the ball", and then have said opponent take an easy uncontested mark while the Crows player is 2m back thinking it's going to fall onto their chest.

Rowey asked who could make the needed changes when it was the directors like Roo who needed to go, and they are the decision makers?

The answer is
  • public pressure from the fans
  • internal pressure from other, unhappy directors
  • sometimes a rebel group of potential directors
  • sponsors who become unhappy not only that they’re not getting a return from their advertising, but just as importantly, they get annoyed that they’re paying a lot of money to have access to the players and watch games from the corporate boxes, and the games aren’t fun to watch anymore

Conversations are happening, no doubt about it

Yeah annoying watching fog do this tonight at times. Clearly an instruction from our forwards coach. We need to jump and attack the ball, not play from behind.

Like any profession some people are in the right place at the right time and get credit for things they shouldn't. I think Silvers and his time at the Hawks is looking that way.

Wasn't there tonight but it felt like that 2014 game against Melbourne. They came over here with 1 win too, they were putrid, but they kicked out to an early lead and just stifled the game for the next 2 hours. Crowd couldn't get into it. Just shit football and we had no answer. 10 years later, same old shit.
I remember the crowd leaving despite the result being very close, just disgusted with the effort. First year of AO home games too and we shit the bed all year.

That ridiculous momentum swinging marking attempt by Murphy should have him dropped
And having him playing as our deepest forward should get Nicks or at least our forwards coach dropped too

We used to play “kick it on Eddie’s head and see if he can out mark someone taller than him”

Now Eddie’s not there we’ve replaced him with Murphy

Un-frickin-believable

Strachan has moments but I just don't think he's an AFL player. We desperately need a new ruck. It's almost to the point where we need to target a genuine experienced ruck as a trade.

The fact Strachan has been our number two for a number of years and no club has really tried to recruit him says it all. He is 29 and purely a backup.

Sorry, I didn’t realise Nank got 28 touches tonight.

You know, the guy Nicks refused to give a regular game until the last 10 rounds.

Nicks - this is why you are getting sacked soon. You can’t spot talent even when it’s right in front of you.
The guy that we made sub a few weeks ago to make way for a cooked Smith.

I prefer Strachan to ROB. I watch all the SANFL games and I prefer Strachan to ROB.

I don’t want Strachan as our AFL ruckman.
