Agree completely.

Keane has too many "oh shit" moments, good teams will punish them.

Butts is more reliable for me.

Milera - good game, but what's his role?

With Milera and Laird back, I feel like we're short a genuine attacking option out of defence.

Peatling was good, but not great, Cumming very similar, but gotta give them a month or so to find their feet.

Essendon are terrible.

Essendon smashed the Hawks around the ball, had more scoring shots and lost be 4 goals last week. They aren’t terrible. They are competitive.

Laird isn't a good ball user, so happy with him in defence provided he isn't viewed an an attacking outlet.

Think you are just carrying your opinion from last year.

Laird has been a very good ball user so far this year.

When he is in the midfield and under pressure he is not a particularly good user (a la Ben Keays). We saw the past couple of years he just threw it on the boot blindly.

This year he has 52 possessions, 44 of which are uncontested and his DE is 90%.

No Crows Defender has more meters gained or Score Involvements than Laird so far this year.

Sholl was good and has been good pretty much all last year. Has really come on as a consistent contributor on the wing. No idea why we'd change that once he turned the corner.

I don’t reckon he ‘turned the corner’, he just ran out of fuel each year until his tank was built. Soligo very similar, both were able to play their hard running style for a full season the first time last year.

Can't see there being any changes.

Have to find a way for Sid not to be sub next week, as to who that is, who knows.

Maybe Milera, maybe Cheese. The latter in particular would be handy coming on late in the game with his speed and kicking ability.

Why the hell would we be moving out Peatling and Cumming during these early stages? Either to sub or otherwise. This is the perfect opportunity for them to find their place and gel with the team. We don't want them to be doing that when we play better sides.

Moving things around too much when the team has momentum is foolish letalone melting down because a couple of blokes fresh to the footy club haven't polled 5 brownlow votes between them in a game.

Given it’s North Melbourne, if Draper’s cork is anything less than 100% resolved, I’d be resting him with a plan for returning as sub and then a full game. And I’d probably give Pedlar the sub vest for the week.

But don’t the ask who comes out of the current 22 to take the vest. Forget backline guys, that’s not happening unless Cumming goes back to half back. Maybe Crouch, I still want to see whether we’re just as good or better with another ball winning and dynamic midfielder instead of him.

It’s way too early to be using any kind of form line or game style trends. Teams don’t always turn up to play seen there’s sample size of 1, there’s nothing to read into.

But it’s a good win nonetheless. We just don’t know if we smoked a top few side with a few out or a bottom few side with few out. So far we’ve comfortably beaten last years 10th and 11th side, both injury hit, I’d be putting the lid back on for now. 100 point win coming up this week and then a genuine test that should tell us a lot more than the opening 3 rounds. But a 10 goal win at the G does feel pretty good, makes me lean towards a good showing up north.

There is no lid off - just stating that the small sample size suggests both Saints and Bombers are better than some give them credit for.
Both have played expected genuine challengers for deep finals runs in their other games and performed very well.
I wrote on the GameDay thread before the game that if we didn’t beat the Bombers we wouldn’t play finals - and I think that’s the case this week as well. We have to beating these sides - whether they are poor or even okay - because it will only get harder. The comp is very even and you have to be beating these types of teams

I think Saints probably are with a few back, not sure bombers will be.

I'd take Keanes brain farts over Butts everyday of the week.
I love his aggression.
Butts panics with the ball and only negates his opponent. Has nowhere near the same output as Keane does.

No changes to the team. Maintain consistency and confidence.
Reward and recognition for the players who are delivering and they all are.
Sid to stay as sub. Hes building nicely.

Possessions per score involvement. Not really much in the stat and you have to remember that Crouch is deployed to the most stat rich aspect of the game. Not playing Crouch might cost us a few stats, but what we potentially gain in terms of spread and dynamism could more than make up for it.

Crouch 3.2
Keays 2.2
Soligo 3.0
Dawson 4.25
Rankine 2.5
Peatling 3.25
Draper 4.5 (2.67 last week)
ANB 2.6

I'd like to think of a way to give Draper a full game in what will be an easy kill, but not quite sure who comes out. I guess we could give Cumming a rest and give Curtin a game on the wing. Keane had a couple of bad moments yesterday but the good still far outweighs the bad. We should back him to rediscover his excellent 2024 form.

Agreed with Sid if he has a bad cork.
If he recovers well, I'd like to see him start. If there are no injuries, I would sub him out when he runs out of petrol or in a specified HP timeframe.

Crouch is usually in our bottom 4 for TOG, quite often the lowest after the two sub players.
There would be a good sample size of other mid-mix without him as the in and under mid

Keane is definitely an issue, I get his ceiling is higher than Butts but his floor is way lower. Feel like we need the much bigger and better defensive skills of Butts against the 200cm players and danger forwards. Add Butts and Larkey and King in the next two games are no longer potential match winners. Keane might need some SANFL time to work on his defensive skills and decision making.

While we have a full squad, be great to set the tone and standards with performance meaning something at selection. Peatling looked out of touch and while we have quality like Nank in the wings, let’s make that change.

Draper has to play a full game, looks like he’s played a hundred games.

Out: Keane, Peatling
In: Butts, Nank

Sub: Cumming

3 weeks ago everybody recognised Keane made mistakes but that you took the good with the bad

Now they want him out? This is why some of you would never make it as coaches

The hate Laird gets on these boards is wild at times. Yes we all wanted him out of the midfield as it was clear his output & effectiveness had dropped away very noticeably, along with the poor mix of players in there. There is however absolutely no reason he can't be good for us down back again, we have a clear weakness in ground balls there which just happens to be a strength of his. Too small of a sample size in just 2 games against undermanned opponents to definitively say anything yet. Happy with his first 2 rounds, can only beat whose in front of us & he did his part.
