We need to be thinking a few weeks ahead interms of selection. We face Nth, Swans, Geelong, Collingwood- all who apply great defensive pressure unlike freo. Therefore, you can not pick Yarran & Garlett in the same side. They may be great players but they lack the aerobic abiility(Yarran & Garlett) and tackling ability(Yarran) so the opposition will match hard runners on them which will send them to the bench resulting in us effectively being 2 players down. We should include Hadley despite his pace deficiency because he is the only big bodied in and under midfielder we have who can protect Judd. I don't know what his form is like but he is crucial to Carlton making the finals.

Hadley is a good point...we have many receivers and not enough players who go in and work hard in and under. judd cant do it all himself.

The club is getting to a stage where so many players can come in and it is going to be hard for Ratts to have a consistent line up like the best teams in league generally do.

Walker and Warnock may start playing for the bullants again this week, so they could be in Ratts plans for the remainder of the season. Ratts has big wraps on both.

It is seriously hard right now to pick the best 22.

Whilst i agree it's hard to pick it, its not like we have 30 AFL quality players to pick from - our problem is we have 15 players who pick themselves each week and then 10-15 young players or just average players who we need to gel together in a good team.

We're still 4-6 players off being any good IMHO - the sooner the kids get the games and get to that maturity the better.

When you have Armfield make mistake after mistake but still get picked just because he's a fast runner, makes you realise our depth is limited.

I can't be too worried about this game. Richmond have put the cue in the rack for the season.

Sit AJ on Nahas so he doesn't do stuff. Game over.

Yeah, I like that matchup as well. Carrazzo to Deledio, and maybe run Grigg with Tuck.

We really should win this, and with no Richo out there, as he has primarily been the player that has been the difference when Richmond has actually won, I just can't see where they are going to kick a winning score against us.

It will be good to get out and watch them play before the next few rounds...we are going to get smashed. ;)

Important to stop Mitch Morton and Robin Nahas. Those two have been two of the guys to lift Richmond this year and will be dangerous if we're unable to shut them down.

Nahas has been a fantastic pickup by Richmond. What a talent he is. And to think I had people telling me in the off season that he was not good enough to be drafted by an AFL club when i suggested he may be on the Blues radar...

No thank you. We have plenty of undersized players on our list. If he grew....then maybe. :thumbsu:

Disagree:

Waite, Warnock, Walker and Bower go a long way to make us a much better side.

Once Browne, Robinson and Yarran become regulars others will be marvelling at our depth.

Still not convinced....

Ellard must come in, we need to reward good form in the 2's. With one BOG last week and a near BOG this week he has to atleast be considered...

With regards to Ellard can someone tell me if his disposals, composure are better than say JR, Austin, Armfield? A lot of people are big wraps for him, and I have noticed that he has been in the best in the reserves for quite a few weeks in a row. We must reward him for consistency, and I would like to see him play as well.

Joseph and Jacobs are the nominated rookies while Bentley was the elevated rookie for Waite.

Afaik Ellard can't play regardless of his form at the moment.

Bentley and fisher are not up to afl standard and must be dropped. Army needs a rest and houlihan is as soft as butter, only found the ball in the last quarter.

I would bring in hartlett for fisher, yarran for bently, Scotland for houlihan and Joey Anderson for army

Hartlett may get a chance with Bower still injured and Austin doing something stupid. Opens up a key defenders spot. If you think Fisher isn't up to AFL standard though, I look forward to your weel thought out reply that explains how Hartlett is an upgrade.
Ditto yarran vs Bentley. No question Yarran has more upside, but as a performer right now I wouldn't have thought either looked at home in the seniors.

Robinson would be lucky to get a call up straight from a suspension in the Ants, but maybe that means he is fresh.

Scotland in contention I suppose.

Is AJ getting tired? Maybe we need to spell him for a week or two to freshen him up. If he stops "stopping" guys its a big piece of our puzzle coming unstuck.

Garlett seemed to have little impact. Maybe a swap for Yarran?

Out: Austin, Garlett, +/- Bentley
In: Hartlett, Yarran, +/- Scotland

If we take this week lightly we will lose. The Tiges will be "up" for it as they will want to atone for round 1 and try to upset our run for the finals.

Will be a tougher game than many think.

Foley a key Out for them.

Ellard can't get picked, he isn't a nominated rookie.

I'm sure this has been brought up, but it is likely that we may see forced changes of Bentley and Garlett out, as Tex and Knockers may be back.

Austin --> Hartlett
Bentley--> Scotland
Garlett--> Yarran

That's what I'm hoping for. Wouldn't mind Tex but he'll probably play at least one game of VFL. :thumbsu:

This game reeks too much like the Essendon game. Sure the Tiges aren’t performing anywhere near the Bumbers at this stage, but a traditional rival, us coming off a 6 day break from inter-state, a team where we should win, and win comfortably, and them having the inspiration to dismantle our finals hope, sets this up for a huge danger game.

We went into the Essendon game complacent, thought that we would out muscle them and bully them… They showed us up... we didn’t pay enough respect to them and they tore us a new one...

We need to prepare well and hard. Take it like the Aints game and get our structures right... The tiges have been playing some good footy lately, and if we dont respect them, like the shockers they will pounce. The only trouble is they won’t let us back in like the shockers did. We are a far superior side than they are. We have more class over the park than what they do. This should be a win in the bag, but how many times have we said that this year and been burnt.

There should be 2 changes and that’s it. 1 forced and the other for glaring obviousness.

Austin - Bannister
Bentley - Scotland

This is a massive game and a chance to
1 Get us above the Lions (6th playing Geelong at the Gabba) this could be an upset though.
2. Get us 1 game clear of the Bumbers (8th playing Sydney at the SCG which you would expect the Swans to win) & Port Adelaide playing Melbourne at the MCG and their travelling record isn’t great (but you would expect them to win on class and the Melbtankathon)
3. Give us a 2 game break from the Swans and perhaps the Hawks who play Nth Melbourne at Aurora - Another danger game for the Hawks, but they should get up
4. give us a 1 game buffer in the 8 with the Hawks (11th 6-8) playing Nth Melbourne
5. If Collingwood lose against the Doggies it will put us within 1 game off 5th spot again, & with Adelaide playing the Dockers at AMMI (they should win that pretty comfortably.

Keeping all this in mind, we still have massive winnable games against 2 sides above us in Collingwood (round 17 Friday night - MCG) and Adelaide (Round 22 - Ethiad Stadium) in the upcoming weeks.

We should win and need to win

Blues by 36 points. that 1 and a half goals better than them per quarter.

GO BLUES :thumbsu:

I was with you until this.

Explain how the Crows, a team that has the wood on us, plays Etihad well, and are the form side outside the top 2 is a "massive winnable" game???

I would actually pencil that game in as a loss, not even 50/50, until we prove otherwise.

We should be able to break a couple of bogeys though when we meet the Roos and Swans. Pies will be a very different unit to what we played last time, but no better than what we beat twice last year.

Bluebear, im hoping for a better start than last time we played them & we are playing on a ground which we have performed pretty well at this year. our game plan against them last time was one of the worst i have seen in many years supporting our great game. I just believe this is one in which we can much much get over the line, keeping in mind the current history we have against them.

why the hell did u drop scotland? he is a good player and should not be dropped it make your side very easy to beat. your already easy to beat now it makes it easyer. (and it makes my supercoach team cr*p)
gibbs a legend.:thumbsu:
LOL. Get a clue.

You're probably only 12 years old so I'll keep it short. Scotland doesn't impose himself enough around the ball every game. He isn't the best of defenders and get often be a liability in the backline but his run and carry and courage can't be doubted. A bit unfair for him to be dropped but it does send some kind of message.

And we won on the weekend so your comment is already wrong.
