i hope im wrong but i cant see elite players moving to our club at this stage...we need to be much better before we start attracting high end talent..maybe 2022.

You mean like Lions attracting Neale, McCarthy Adam's, Cameron after winning 5 games a season?

SOS is overrated

Maybe he is but it would be much better to develop players around a good team and strong seconds side and when they are injected into it only have to be bit players — Today watching the Sydney game the commentators said how good rowbottom has developed he is averageing 13 possessions a game — if our players same age have 13 people on here want there head on a plate 🤷🏿‍♂️.

I ventured down. Was a pretty disappointing way to end the year. I think we’ve seen before our strengths (contested marking and running/link up play) get neutralised in the wet. For a brief period in the third we got on the outside of them a bit. Then the rain came again. GAblett was supreme. The weather didn’t bother him at all. The old adage about superstars get better in the wet or something. They were pretty impressive. Losing Ed didn’t help. Not having Gibbo didn’t help. We just looked a bit small physically (not ‘height’ small- ‘bulk’ small) all over the ground.

Just one game. Down there. A few out. Wet. It was just all a bit much for us. Setters Dow LOB will all benefit from a big preseason in the gym.

Onwards to next year.

Most, most, most disappointing end to the season. Of course, having regard to the lack of Mongrel displayed by the players, it will raise questions about Teague’s ability to get the players to be hard, aggressive and dour.
Maybe Ross Lyon as the manager of coaches may not be a bad idea, after all!
No thanks to Ross. Not going to judge anyone in any way on this game. Get into the preseason, get the bodies right, bring in the right players and we continue down the right track. All journeys are littered with set backs to learn from. Today was always going to be tough and the wind swung after quarter time!

Yes maybe no to Ross but you always need a few new faces in your coaching ranks for some fresh ideas —

Frankly, I'm not even bothered by today.

Last week was our last game of the season unofficially. You can see how they treated the two matches completely differently.

We had nothing left to play for - especially after Sydney cruised home as expected. Meanwhile, Geelong had everything to play for. It felt to me as though we were following through with the contractual obligations of something that was otherwise meaningless.

Bring on 2020

Thanks Daisy.

Crippa, Murph, Ed, Walsh, Weiters and Plow all good today. The rest meh.

Setters had some good moments in the wet. Good to see Cunners back.

Cats are a myth.

Onwards to 2020.

Weitering dominated Hawkins.
Our forwards recieved nothing all day.

Geelong brought their pressure game and it worked with the wind assistance they got and foreign ground for our players - that and a lot of shrugged tackles and not 100% effort from too many too often.

they all looked bigger and stronger than our players - we are 2 years off their best - all going right.

Looking back on it we played this season upside down - starting all the young guys early out of the middle getting them smashed eg dow Fischer Setterfield (half a preaseason ) instead of the older players and injecting the youth less frequently and building there centre time through the year .. i Won’t forget the game against north for a Long time —
But credit to the team today as the 3 qt was excellent turn around just lacked class to capitalise on the 18-5 inside 50 —- weitering was huge all day .

Thoroughly pathetic performance.
Conditional, as poor teams/clubs are more often than not.
Did Silvagni no favours at all in trying to attract a better standard of player to the club.
Many need to think about their priorities this summer, but will they ...

Yep agreed. Man do we have some very soft footballers on our list. Some who just refuse to put their bodies on the line. When you go to Geelong on a windy, rainy day, you have to be prepared to go hard. Many of our players didn't.

That result will play no part in who we attract next year

Maybe you are correct in this assessment, however if you're Mr Coniglio, weighing up a decision about whether to join the club, it wasnt pretty viewing for him watching our soft footballers get thoroughly outplayed.

Well that was a real footy experience today.

The cold front edged over the ground at quarter time and then it rained for a couple of quarters. It stopped for the last quarter but by that stage we were drenched and the wind chill factor of zero (slight exaggeration) meant shivering for the last quarter. Daisy’s send off took forever (well it felt like it) and by that stage I was concerned that my son was developing a case of hypothermia. I took remedial action after the game by purchasing a couple of coffees and a doughnut for each of us. This led to much mirth where we forgot about the match and the cold. This allowed us some time, during the walk back to the car, to contemplate the mistake we made of going to the footy at Sleepy Hollow.

think Cameron went to brisbane because of family but still i get your point.....They did well to get those players but I dont think it is just about wins. We are one of the big four in melb but have still missed out on a lot of players recently (eg shiel saad stringer omeara mithcell impey wingard devon smith etc)....i just dont have any confidence that we will attract such talent at this stage....I believe we need to show some more progress on and off the field..some club wide stability.

Not the way I'd hope we would finish the year, but we we're just outclassed by a more seasoned team.
Weather conditions and just unlucky wind shifts in the first half we're a huge factor in giving Geelong an unfair advantage but they are another level with ball movement, disposal efficiency and all round class.
Thought we cracked in all game although we had a lot of blokes down until half time, nearly every player had a better impact in the second half but we were again our own worst enemy continually turning the ball back over way to much.
There's a heap of areas we need to work on over the preseason but the great thing is we should have so much upside with the young talent we have and hopefully a few great additions to come with Teaguey to implement his style.
Well done to everyone, particularly in the last half of the year for laying a tremendous foundation for next year.
GoBlues...

Still don't think some of our young talent is as good as people rave on about and like to believe.
