Reasons we will beat Hawthorn

I think we are looking at it differently

The mind set of "Oh well, if we lose, we had a great season so it aint that bad" may take the edge out of the side. Id much prefer them to be completely devastated if they lost and feel as though they have failed. Neither mindest needs nervous careful football to be played.

If we go into saturdays game with one eye on the Grand Final, we are f**ked.
There is no doubt Hawthorn will have one eye on the Grand Final, why wouldn't they? They have earnt that right

Head first, aggression levels super high, run like there is no tomorrow... Throw everything at them.
If they are 5% off their game we can make a game of it.
Hawthorn are $1.15 favourites. We are the biggest outsiders in 13 years in a Prelim. If ever a team had the right to play with nothing to "loose" it is us this week...

Ever noticed how teams can be 40 points down. Make a remarkable comeback. Hit the front. Then tighten up.. ( think Freo v Adel this year in WA).... As soon as they think about winning they are gone.

Let's hope if we get 40 points up we don't think about winning :)

I like the fact we are underdogs. Let's hope the players go out and play hard contested footy because basically that's what AFL has come down to. We have the midfield to match the Hawks and we should win the taps so no excuses if we don't win the ball at least half the time. What we do with it going forward is where we need to improve, more accurate delivery inside 50 and straight kicking at goal. We can't waste our opportunities as we will be belted the other way when the hawks get the ball. We can win this match, no doubts in my mind.

Hawthorn, realistically, are almost guaranteed 30 scoring shots. For us to win we need -

1. Hawthorn to kick 10.20 instead of 20.10.
2. Us to jump out of the blocks. If we are down by 5+ goals by half time there is basically no way back with the way Clarkson coaches.
3. We need to expose their lack of shutdown ability - Dangerfield and Sloane need to have beauties.
4. Douglas, Vince, Porplyzia, and Mackay need to play the games of their lives.
5. Tippett needs to kick 4.

If we kicked straight and deadly straight and the Hawks have an off night with their shots for goal, we are definitely a chance.

But I cannot emphasize enough that kicking straight at around 75% will go a long way towards us winning.

When Tex Porps kicked clutched goals, it made the difference between winning and losing.

You guys just worry about getting plenty there. 31k at aami is a better effort than 65k at the G.
65K at the G is a good crowd especially against an interstate team.
So what happened ? the first week there were 44K against the Swans at AAMi and then a lousey 31K and you call that good.

Noone called it good! But Tickets were very pricey and the Show was on. Not everyone can afford to fork out hundreds two weeks in a row!

in round 22 the swans were able to deny the hawks uncontested possession, smashing them in tight early... the hawks dug in and the swans became a little untidy and then the hawks started to find space as they got their clean hands/kicking/marking/running/quick ball movement game from defense going before half time...and then it became an arm wrestle in the second half to the end...Burgoyne sparked them off half back and then iced it late...we need to take them in the midfield battle...

With AFL members and MCC members added in to the total, how many of that 65K paid full price for their tickets. At Aami all 31k paid full price, And why bring up the "interstate team" thing - we play interstate teams every home game except 1 but that never gets taken into account when our crowds get bagged. I was disappointed in the crowd but I do find it astounding that 45k at the G for Geelong/Freo is an acceptable crowd in Melbourne even though it was the AFL members game of the round and Melbourne has 3x the population as us, but 31k at Aami is a disgrace. Given the circumstances the crowds are pretty much identical.

As much as the Hawks defence will run off him, that means there could be a lot of space if we cause turnovers...and Callinan is just the bloke to get goal side and get us over the line.

This.

Once we get down to business in the second half, this game will be won by who finishes, who makes the least mistakes by hand and foot and who has the most ticker.

in round 23 at the G the hawks jumped west coast early - the hawks got to the fall of the ball en-mass deep in defense and rebounded well with Franklin taking Mitch Brown to the cleaners early...the eagles looked more dangerous in the second getting numbers around the ball and winning the contested possession...the hawks however capitalized on any poor ball use from west coast...the hawks pretty much had control from the get go...west coast won the hit outs easily but the hawks made the most of the clearances as Hale tried to take the space of cox and knackers...Franklin was well held for the last three qtrs by Brown and was denied space to work in...hawks by 25 pts in the end

You guys are quicker. Your team responds well under pressure. Hawthorn are as arrogant as their fans.

Go crows

I smell your fear....However all jokes aside, I think the media have been the source of 99% of the hype.
You get some morons suporting all sides but I can assure you The HFC will not be underestimating any team, or taking anything for granted.

The hawks are very focused and as detirmined as I have ever seen them to take anyone lightly.

the pies came out niggling and the hawks kept at the footy early in the first final...getting plenty of numbers around the drop of the ball deep in defense...the pies were ordinary with the foot skills...hawks were harder at the footy, ran harder to create space and used the ball better to get it into space...the hawks smashed them out of the middle...the pies were well served by quick entries to one on ones in their forward line

According to the 'pattern', in the first week two Melbourne teams were knocked out and last week resulted in two interstate teams finalizing their season. So.. two Melbourne teams are due to lose again this week :D

Simple and effective.
what happens the week after? draw?

We are planning on Gunston being knocked out in the first 5 minutes so I dont think much work has gone into the matchup.

Depending on what time I get into Melbourne, he could be knocked out before the game starts. :thumbsu:
