Won't happen.Ponting for a double century today to steer us toward a record total..
Come on cricket gods, make it happen!
Won't happen.
He won't bat today
I know the emotion of the last few days has made everyone's glasses all rosey but the videos send a strong message that he was being carried for at least two years save for a rich vein of form last January (the only highlight to feature in the latter part of many videos) which would've been the ideal time to call it a day. Don't mean to spoil the party but if you're going to be condescending, remember that his return this series was 32 runs at 6.4 and since 2009/10 has averaged 35.05, almost 16 runs shy of his final career average (and inflated by the purple patch vs. India). He WAS a great batsman, but this announcement is long overdue. The media can spin it all they like but it was hardly a fairy tale endingYea, heaps interesting; a player was at his best during his prime.
What a revelation.
So a world wide great retires, and channel 9 / YouTube have the gall to not show him during the low point of his career?I know the emotion of the last few days has made everyone's glasses all rosey but the videos send a strong message that he was being carried for at least two years save for a rich vein of form last January (the only highlight to feature in the latter part of many videos) which would've been the ideal time to call it a day. If you look at the batsmen who had a sustained run and were discarded during this time, Pontings record is better than Marcus North's (644 runs at 28.8) but significantly worse than Simon Katich (1198 at 47.92). I can understand that Ponting was afforded a certain degree of leniency due to his contributions in years gone by but the double standards, particularly in Katich's case grind my gears as it was "age and the need to regenerate the top order" that was offered as the explanation for dropping Katich like a hot potato.Funnily enough that average probably compares fine with many of his teammates over that time.
You're missing the point. You can't show highlights if they don't exist! So a world wide great retires, and channel 9 / YouTube have the gall to not show him during the low point of his career?
Ponting will be remembered for his amazing decade during the 2000's.
So what is your issue then? You can't have a crack about this anymore, he's gone, its ok.You're missing the point. You can't show highlights if they don't exist!
Just hoping that people will see things more objectively now and not be so hasty in attacking those that saw the need to rebuild our top order up to 2 years ago is allSo what is your issue then? You can't have a crack about this anymore, he's gone, its ok.
