Russel Ebert may be gone but he will never ever be forgotten.

He was an extraordinary footballer and and no less an extraordinary human being.

Growing up, everyone wanted to be Russell Ebert but their has only ever been one Russell Ebert but his life, through his legacy as a champion for those less fortunate and the inspiration he has given to generations of people means that he will live forever.

Very sad. For 24 hours I’d love to hear him spoken about with comparisons to Robran.

it’s not a debate, Russell leaves a legacy beyond playing on the field.
RIP to the best Port Adelaide servant

My condolances to you guys. What an absolute legend of australian football.

It would be great to see Port honour such a great by placing his number somewhere on the jumper. Hopefully if the afl allow. Other sports do it.
Bahahahha come on

No person can live forever, but Russell is an immortal of our great club and this great game. Vale Russell.

Oh i just saw this thread now and my heart dropped. It doesn't feel real so sad right now. The fact that i am crying right now after only ever meeting him once shows how much everyone loves him at the club. So sorry for the Ebert family. A really sad day for the footy world to lose one of it's greats

When I was in year 12 I spent a week at the PAFC as part of one of my subjects. On the first day we arrived at Alberton Oval at 6am. There was a man standing on the oval alone wearing a Port Adelaide Magpies guernsey, track pants and footy boots. As players would walk out he would have a quick kick and chat with each of them before they started their warm up. I thought it must have been a die hard fan, volunteering his time. Turns out it was, it also happened to be Russell Ebert. Each day we arrived and there he was, offering advise and wisdom to anyone that would ask. Whether it be a 300 game veteran or a kid from across the road. You accompany this with his outrageous talent and decorated career and you can’t help but admire him. I’m an Adelaide Crows supporter. But there is no one in football that I respect more than Russell Ebert.

The mark of a true champion and human being is despite their achievements, is their ability to relate with anybody from any background.

I always marvelled at the way Russell would seamlessly blend in with the crowd in front of the Fos Williams Stand. No fanfare or bravado, just wearing his subtle PAFC jacket, sharing a quick chat with those that had the courage to approach him. No ego, just a genuine man, real Port.

I'm not crying. You're crying

This is terrible news. We knew it was coming but hoped and prayed he would beat it

The best player to play for the Port Adelaide Football Club. He is the Bradman of footy. There will never be anyone else like him

RIP great man

All banter aside just wanting to pass on condolences to the wider port family on the loss of one of your greats. I was too young to see him live but my old man had plenty of stories to tell on the old sturt v port games with ebert and davies headlining. He was a real living link to the port we all remember pre AFL. Vale the great man
