It doesn't matter how well a club is performing, it is still reasonable to discuss the pro's and con's of all the fringe players.
Whipping boys are merely players that aren't automatic selections.
We don't have a lot of depth in the HF position, and playing Walsh there only adds another mid, not a much needed regular goal source.

So a VFL player is fringe, and so called non automatic selections are whipping boys?

Did you think LOB had a better game than Fisher?

Pies are playing a mid at HF and HB, seems to work well

When Walsh comes back in , it will probably force Ed out or back to HFF and force Fisher or one of the small forwards out IF they not doing their job well enough. But Walsh could be still some time away. Not heard any news to think he back in a week or three.

All fringe and VFL players not getting games could be considered whipping boys.
No. But LOB plays if Acres is out.
Do the Pie's medium forwards contribute to their score? Probably, but I've got no idea, I only watch Carlton AFL & VFL games.(apart from the occasional 1/4 or so)

Feel for Dow, has improved slightly in some aspects, but still well behind the pecking order as a pure mid. Cripps, Kennedy, Cerra, Walsh, Hewett, Doc

If he could play a role in other areas, he would get a run, unfortunately due to his lack of versatility, will be hard again for him this year
I do too. Shit I can’t even find a spot for one of Kennedy/Hewitt in our best side right now. Not sure how Dow gets near it barring (touch wood) injuires.

It's an interesting discussion, ultimately we are 1 of 3 undefeated teams and sitting 3rd. We did also have 10 more scoring shots than GWS.

I think when we get speed on the ball with overlap run, we do kick to forwards on the lead. It's just that it doesnt happen all that often.

Part of it is personnel...we don't have power runners in speed and endurance all over the park like a Collingwood...we actively try to avoid a shoot out type game and have a more defensive setup.

Flicking it around with handballs and short passes can lead to turnovers in bad positions and we get exposed. Going deep enables us to defend the turnover far easier and lock it in. Stoppages aren't a bad result for us with our bull midfielders (who haven't all been on the park together yet).

Having said that, Voss did say in his presser that there wasn't a lot of method with our entries vs GWS...so it's not exactly how we're trying to play.

Agreed.

It is great that we're undefeated and our defense first f50 entry strategy has played its role but we've got the best key forwards in the game and we're feeding them scraps. Harry is not even getting that.

I'd much prefer us to show a bit more confidence in our own abilities and set up to hit those guys on the lead a lot more with the dump kick reserved for emergency use only.

There was nearly no clean goals in the GWS game - where we had the ball, saw a teammate, kicked him the ball, he marked it and then kicked a goal. Hard to see us building towards a premiership with such a low efficiency/skill level game plan.

Keen for this one. Great to be a part of Good Friday footy.

Top 4 aspirant vs likely bottom 4 side. North have 2 wins under their belt already but I've still got them as bottom 4 locks; the loss to Hawthorn over the weekend a good indication they've still got a long, long way to go.

After a tough start to the year for us this shapes as a much easier contest on paper. Clarkson though is obviously a great coach and a potential thorn in our side, as he will be for many teams. I have little doubt he'll look to make this as dour a contest as possible.

We are clearly stronger all over the park but the massive advantage for us is up forward with Harry and Charlie. North's key defensive stocks are poor at the best of times, but with McKay out and Logue also likely to miss (I'm expecting them to contest his suspension), there's a big bag on offer for one of them, if not both.
Corr, Bonar, Dawson are not names we should be fearing.

Having said that, we had a big advantage in this space on the weekend against the Giants too with just Taylor down back, and Harry didn't trouble the scoreboard. So whilst there should be confidence, system can override personnel, and system is where Clarkson excels.

Expecting a comfortable win here. But let’s not go overboard, if we’re even slightly off it may get close.

So I just got tickets.
5 in premium seating. It is absolutely ridiculous that it was coming up showing 0 available seats. You would expect some transparency.
It’s a terrible ticketing system and has been for as long as i can remember, the way they slowly stagger/distribute certain areas of seating is baffling…

Surely we’ll have this overturned due to lack of motor vehicle (carless) involved in the collision.

Thought Harry was good against the Cat’s - Competed very well, goals didn’t come, that happens some times.
Played on one of the premier defenders in the comp on Saturday and from my perspective it got all a little bit too hard for Harry.
Need more natural separation for the two big forwards - I’d play Harry higher, more CHF, and Charlie deeper.
Have Harry taking the first / second kick from defence with some runners going past.
We need to to get more speed coming from the back half. Weitering & Young are slow exiting defence, need the ball in McGovern & Saad’s hands (Williams would have been another, Boyd also) They’ll make some errors that‘s because they dare too. Walsh’s run is hugely important to our ability to transition at the speed required to give our forwards the best chance.
They have JSOS playing the high role that I think Harry should play, he did this well in the first half against GWS but I’d prefer him deeper with Charlie as he (Silvagni) has better leading patterns than Harry.
Our mids need to be more composed coming out of transition and start spotting up rather than high / dump kicking to a spot. Doing this is causing most of the congestion with H & Charlie. Both have the natural instinct to compete in the air.

Yep, H more as CHF & CC from the square trad FF. Obv interchanging during play.
H needs to get the kicking boots on too.

Did I hear someone suggest on SEN for H to lineup in the backline to take advantage of his intercepting marking.

Out: Owies (injured), Acres (suspended),
Lob (sub/omitted - needs full game vfl).
IN: Kennedy (if fit), Cincotta (good vfl form), Kemp (sub)
B: McGov - Weits - Newy
HB: Cincotta - Young - Saad
C: Hollands - Cripps - Cerra
HF: Fish - Harry - Jsos
F: Durds - Charlie - Mots
R: DeKoning - Doch - Hewett
INT: Pitto - Kennedy - Cowan - Ed Curnow
Sub: Kemp - (Able to play forward or back if required)
Tactics: Ed to LDU, Newy to Zurhaar, Doch to midfield/wing, changing with Cerra.

Although we don't need the percentage because of the draw, but us by plenty. :p

If you go on ticketmaster now it shows some tickets for $47. The next time it shows nothing. I went onto the Marvel Stadium website and it says that general admission areas are TBC. So it sounds like they are trying to sell as any seats as possible before they allocate which areas will be general admission. The cost of a reserved seats do seem pretty high compared to other games and venues.
