The players who were picked top 20 (plus Bolton, who should’ve been top 20) can’t be arsed (Taranto and Hopper aside, until they’re infected with the torpor of the gilded elite, prob next year) - Dusty couldn’t even be bothered turning up (aka “flu”). The others have the right ideas and intent, but their arms and legs don't always do what they’re told. Bring on the worthy retirements and hit the draft for some fresh enthusiasm for the next few years. Hail the departed heroes of the mighty golden age!

That was an ass whooping. Biggest loss since 2016.

- Our midfield was awful. Taranto, Cotchin, and Graham gave us barely anything. Bolton was relatively quiet too. Hopper and Ross were the only decent midfielders today.

- We can’t do the Miller, Ryan, and Riewoldt mix up forward. They combined for 0 goals and 0 behinds today. That isn’t acceptable even with only 38 inside 50s. We’ve said it all season, but try one of Bauer, Bradtke, and Nyuon and see how it goes. We can’t keep doing this.

This is McQualter’s first real test. Will he be bold with the team selections in the hopes of improving our KPF output? Or will he remain conservative in selecting our team? Guess we’ll find out soon.

But Bradtke, Nyuon and Bauer aint going to work with 3 talls either + Pickett. It's a shocking setup, Id much rather play 1 tall with a Dusty/Cumberland type + 4 smalls than whatever we are trying.

Ryan has kicked 12 goals from 14 games this year and hasn't kicked a goal since June 4th.

An absolute indictment on our recruiting and list that this guy is our 3rd picked key position forward.
We needed mids desperately, and he was an outside shot who cost us nothing. He’s come a long way, and plays up the ground a bit. He could run a bit harder back to the goal square though.

Wow.

just got home from the game.

Disgraceful effort from our players.I found it hard to pick a good player tonight.

Vlastain was probably our best imo.

Hopper only in patches.

I love Judson Clarke, but I felt he shat the bed a lot tonight.

Jack is a liability.

Short going hurt us, but still wouldn't have helped much.

So now we know McQualter won't get the job who do we want?

worst we have played for a long time.
Hardwick is on the market, looking to surf a team already on the rise.

Wouldn't take too much out of the performance, even before the game we were flat and wayward (flu? there was half a dozen who looked like they'd struggle to hit the crowd on the full!) throughout the warm up, then even every mistake Brisbane made magically turn to gold and the game was gone before we could even begin to regroup.

Having said that, I'd have to watch the replay to say this categorically, but I think once I have I'm gonna say that considering the available personnel, that was far and away the worst midfield performance of the post-flag era.

46 clearances to 22 and of our 22, I don't think we had a single clean clearance. Brisbane had a couple of dozen.

Game over.

Who is playing forward, back, and any chance those players had to perform all becomes utterly irrelevant in the context of a midfield failure that horrific.

The midfield group whose shoulders that falls squarely upon have all been very good the last 3-4 rounds, so all we can do is write tonight off as a 'bye curse' aberration and move on.

On a positive note, was fantastic as always to get amongst the Tiger Army, most stayed right to the end and everyone copped the loss with good grace, like supporters of a recent triple premiership winning side should.

We're a bloody good mob us Richmond people.

Tonight was hard to stomach, but a week's a long time in footy and without a doubt, there's plenty of joy left in this season for the yellow and black.

Go Tigers! :thumbsu::richmond:

Before the game started was told that some players were taking cold n flu tablets on the plane. Wouldnt have stopped the lion's rampage but it does explain two things, teams are flat after the bye, and add to this some with the flu and that becomes a double whammy. We looked beyond flat, lethargic.
Yes, it was an aberration.
From an average of about 65 inside 50s to 38 is way below the median.
If they had a flu bug, they would not publicise it either.
Average these days is about 65 inside 50s per game with a 20 per cent goal conversion.
Straight to the video tape bin.

Agree and no way that only Dusty had the flu. His i guess was just way worse than some of the others battling it.

I really just want to see us start developing the kids.
It feels like we have been holding onto this fleeting notion that we can put together this dream run to finals. It was a fun little period but we were always going to struggle to hold off teams based on the amount of entries we allow week to week.

I know Mini is essentially in the middle of a dress rehearsal but I honestly feel like the best thing for this team is to start embedding the next wave in with the likes of Taranto, Hopper, Short, Baker, Bolton, Balta, Clarke, Ralphsmith, Cumberland etc.

I want to see Banks, Sonsie, Dow, Coulthard, Bauer/Bradtke, Nyuon, Brown etc all given an opportunity in the remaining games. Not all at once but give a few a stretch of three or four at a time.

We need to see what we have. It's actually becoming pressing now.

Its not that easy to fit them in. A player like Dow that needs to play midfield or Sonsie? Where do they play? I mean Prestia and Martin still come back in before them. We arent dropping Taranto or Hopper. Our midfield of Taranto, Hopper, Martin, Bolton, Prestia is pretty much set even going forward for next season. Recruiting Taranto and Hopper has pretty much locked out our midfield.

They just start on the bench and rotate through.
It's obviously not ideal.
Even though Dusty has been looking better as a mid, I still think the right call for his last year is to play him forward. I know many won't agree but we need to get our future mids in the mix.

Richmond, of course, is not the first side to be belted by the Lions at the Gabba. But they remain 12th on the ladder, with the potential to fall further this weekend after losing a chunk of percentage.

From the age

Seriously don’t they look at the ladder?

Our % is shit nevertheless

Can you elaborate and say what you observed? It didn’t look like there were many adjustments except Baker in the middle or something like that.

So Brisbane have a pretty predictable game plan and you want to avoid a few things.

In his ****ing wisdom Mini decided to have the worst forward structure in world football. There was absolute no system or any forward structure. We bombed long and it’s the number one thing you can’t do. We allowed them time to hit the short targets which is a no no. Basically the way we set up was everything Brisbane would have wanted.

Mini was pants. Absolutely pants. That was ****ing horrid watching. Can’t think of a worse coaching performance.

I won’t go into individuals but some of you speak of some players like they will be stars and I wouldn’t have them playing in Keilor Reserves.

He boned himself
He had all the chances he deserved and then some but couldn’t pull out the finger
Stack's private life was a mess, made poor decisions. I read where on more than one occasion he was charged with driving without a licence. As strong as our club culture was, especially for indigenous players, Stack was an ongoing problem and didn't seem to respect the list spot he had

They will start on the bench, but with the other 5 its really limited the genuine midfield minutes you get. They will just come in for players like Pickett, Graham or whoever but then you are just playing them in flanker roles and not really devolping them as mids anyway. Is a player better off playing a flanker role in the seniors or fulltime mid in the VFL? Im not sure the answer. Hawthorn had this problem so traded all the senior mids off the list. You cant do it while they are there and weve chosen our path for the next few years atleast.

The problem is when our senior midfield get smashed. Obviously no Prestia or Dusty tonight, but it was still pathetic.

Pretty disappointing to have that be the only game I get to go to all year (thanks for saving our worst loss in 6 years for this lol), but it was still nice to be at the footy and hang out. Had to laugh at our performance though. Just an incoherent blob of players our team was. Saw after a couple plays our defenders were just looking at each other asking wtf they were doing. Balta to Ralphsmith specifically one time.

Still love watching Cotch play, the way he moves is fun to watch, and he had some nice kicks. Probably our only player that kicked the ball to good spots and found a lead. Speaking of, I'm amazed at how static our team is. Lions could move the ball all over the ground, while we'd struggle to move it 50m and certainly couldn't get clean i50 entries. What's the point in talls bringing it to ground when we don't have a single player ready to mop up the ball?

I enjoyed looking around the ground and at specific players more than I have in the past, but it would've been nice to kick some more goals. Saw Short's injury happen in the pocket, not sure if it was on TV. Grabbed at it as he went down, which sucks because I wanted his streak of goals to continue.

Weird how different we can be week to week. Good movement and scoring chances one week and then the opposite. Brisbane played well, although that goes without saying. Couldn't really expect to win but that wasn't great. Midfield got absolutely pantsed, which is concerning. On to next week

Not going to happen really. McQualter is trying to squeeze as many wins as possible to land the senior gig. He looks to have no interest in rewarding the likes of a Banks or trying out any of Bauer, Biggie or Bradtke up forward and our forward lines a complete basket case.

McQualter is basically a very watered down version of Hardwicks cordial. The club has the following KPF options: an ancient Riewoldt who's played 3 very good games 1 great and 10 stinkers. He's cooked but he won't rest him. Lynch's years done.... Could even diminish what's left of his career. Ryan and Miller are treading water as FWD's. By season's end most likely Riewoldt retires. Lynch is still around but now old and injury prone. Ryan can Ruck but can't mark and against the number 1 gun defenders could be a complete embarrassment as he's struggling on nobodies. Miller's into his 6th year and pretty average really.

Biggie, Bradtke and Bauer are all a complete mystery even more so for the list managers..... Do we delist the wrong one who becomes the next Stengel AA at his next club? WTF knows because he refuses to try any, when realistically with Lynch out they all should've and could've played 2-3 games each already.

Interesting to see if he brings any in after Riewoldt, Miller and Ryan combined for 15 touches, 6 marks and 0.0. But I seriously doubt he will. Same with Banks, surely he could replace Ralph Smith or Clarke?

Humm you obviously haven't watched any VFL matches as there isn't much to see there and the fact you see Miller Clark Ralf etc picked every week says it all. Wish it was different but it's reality.

He was probably the getaway campervan driver JUST saying lol truth will be told  His only good season was the first when he had to prove himself after that it was all down hill.

THE GOOD: Brisbane would have beaten EVERY team in the AFL tonight and even the great Brisbane three-peat teams.

THE BAD: We wouldn't have beaten ANY other team tonight, nor the wooden spoon-winning combos from the days with Kevin Bartlett at the helm.

In all seriousness, three premierships were great but time we close the lid on the past and stopped dwelling on it and started looking forward.
Part of that is, no free passes and gifting of games because of a player's legacy. Games on merit from now one and that means blokes like Jack Graham (McIntosh to a lesser extent tonight) go back to the twos and work their butt off and earn an A grade game.

PS. Pickett should play Twos and have some fun getting a kick. Mind is clearly not there right now (and understandably) and just needs to get back to the basics.
We need Pickett to play 100 games

Make him sub

Strange game footy. How are they so bloody good at the Gabba and so ordinary away from it. They won’t win the flag because of it. They’re not half the team they are at the Gabba.
I think it’s that cringy music every time they kick a goal that turns them on up there
