Personally I would like to see Cumberland debut, adds a different dimension to the forward line. From what I’ve seen of him he is pretty good one on one for his size and has a powerful burst of speed. His forward pressure im not so sure on but it’s not really a feature for us anymore to be honest and I’m sure he would be giving it his all. So I’ll go with In: Cumberland, Dow, RCD, Out: Prestia, Riewoldt, Aarts (sub) Ralphsmith in the 22.

Having Kmac back would be great giving us the option to move Ross off the wing and have Pickett and Kmac play both wings respectively

Lets Ross play more in the guts or back to the vfl depending on how you feel about his ability to play in the middle

Cool your jets … last 3 rounds of 2021 he had 30-23-30 touches…. give him another couple of weeks.

Therein lies the problem, how many weeks do we give our premiership heroes before we're going to make the hard call on whether they are still best 22 or not?

You say a couple of weeks, but what if we get to round 4 and he's had 12 15 & 17 disposals but his actual impact isn't substantially better than what a kid like RCD Dow Martyn could offer. Do we keep him in the side hoping that he'll come good or do we actually make a call that needs to be made?

Everyone keeps naming macintosh as an in but what if he's not fit. He's also played zero pre season games. Good chance of being underdone or reinjuring

Didn't he play both preseason games and the intraclub? RCD is the one that is way underdone that people seem to want in.

No. He can take picketts wing and pickett in the guts
So you want to take probably our best player from last week playing the position he plays best and put him into a position he has barely played at afl level?

Mids need reinforcements but that’s just robbing Peter to pay Paul

WTF is all this posting about playing Cumberland? He's played 1 maybe 2 good games of VFL since being drafted FFS.

Get a grip.
He only played 8 VFL games though (all in 2021). He’s kicked multiple goals in most (if not all) of our VFL preseason matches this year if I remember correctly:

  • He kicked 2 goals against Carlton despite us performing terribly
  • He kicked 3 goals in the second half against Box Hill
  • I don’t know about the Geelong one tbh, but I do remember that he kicked at least one goal.

This is after he kicked 5 goals against Collingwood (while having 20 disposals) and kicking 3.5 against Frankston in our last two VFL games. That’s at least 14 goals in 5 games since his breakout game against Collingwood. Could be more because I don’t remember if he kicked more than 1 goal against Geelong.

I think he’s starting to show much more consistency in our VFL forward line and that means he’s ready to debut at the very least. He’s not going to fix our clearances in the middle, but perhaps he can fix our pressure inside 50.

I know for a fact through friends that are quite close with him that he felt a bit left in the lurch during his contract phase and stating the bleeding obvious but is disappointed he hasn't been given a senior opportunity yet.

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised. It was difficult because he ruptured his ACL not long after the 2020 season started so was unavailable for a while.

Then the contract thing happened. He has been working hard though by the looks of it so I think he will get his opportunity soon. He just hasn’t had as much time to prove himself as other players on our list did

He played well but if he's in our best 22 we're in real strife.

Like when we won premierships?

Pickett and McIntosh on the wings is fine, we just need to be way tougher around the ball. That starts with the ruck, not certain I would give the 2 rucks another go, play with an extra mid off the bench, Balta can be the 2nd ruck, he offers something different atleast. It gives us an extra rotation so hopefully we aren't cooked by the last quarter.

Graham surely can't play that bad again and will give us something. Midfield rotation of Dusty, Cotch, Bolton, Baker, Graham, Ross and one of Dow/RCD (I would play Ross and Dow this week and lose the 2nd ruck). Edwards needs to be able to play in there at times or there isnt much point in playing him. Baker played his best midfield game against the Giants last year, I thought he and Bolton were poor in limited midfield minutes last week.

In: Hugo, Dow/RCD, Kamdyn
Out: Jack, Prestia, Soldo.

edit: Ok I forgot Aarts has to go as well. We really dont have many players good enough to come in :( I guess Soldo will stay.

Stack barely got a touch in the reserves practice match, how could he possibly come into the AFL side?

How is he way underdone. Missed the last two practice matches but played in the interclub and had a preseason that started in October. (Came back in great shape). Played last week in the VFL. Missed a few weeks with ribs but would have been running in that time, just no contact. How exactly is that way underdone.

Some of the double standards around Stack are amazing. Comes back unfit and struggles through the preseason, but posters still have him a lock in the 22 because he is such a talent, yet other guys who come back in peak fitness and train hard throughout the summer shouldn't be anywhere near the 22 because they're not as talented as someone like Stack.

Based on Peter Burge...

- Riewoldt to miss a week, potentially back after that, will have to assess.

- Prestia, minor, running today, hammy normally a "bicep" injury and he has injured two other parts instead, so yep minor, expecting a quicker turnaround, sounds like 1-2 weeks but no timeframe given

- KMac main training this week and if gets through will be available

- Vlastuin running flat out but injury is complicated as he cannot kick fully still, progressing his kicking with a light ball and short kicks, sounds like slow going, probably round 4 at the absolute earliest

- Lambert looking to step things up even more this week, things going well as they can, has been able to tick most boxes, they now just want him to try participate in match practice this week, then will need a few weeks of backing that up, so potentially available any time from round 5 or so if things go well
