AFLW Round 1 v Geelong

My opinion is that they are trying too hard to play to a system when they should just be doing the basics.
I know it sounds bad, but kick the thing long and gain ground. The skills across the board aren’t good enough to handball or chip kick your way out of trouble.
that all falls on the coach.
only a select few are good enough for game plan, system based play.
I agree , there’s prob 2 players in the team that could reliably hit a target i50 the rest are kidding themselves , ffs kick into some space at least ,, give the smalls a chance to run onto some loose ball , missing from 20m out is such a bad look , fmd

I agree about the standard of of the Richmond game, but that game were the lowest scores for the round. I watched the Essadon Hawks game too, and today both teams had numbers behind the ball so it ping ponged from D50 to D50. The match winner today was a 2 goal kicker. We didn't have one.
AFLW footy is going OK. I think somehow, RFC won't have many wins. Dunno how Essadan managed it so well?
Women's cricket, football, basketball, golf, surfing are exactly the same gap between men's cricket; football, b/ball, golf and surfing. All to do with athletic ability. AFLW is making progress. My local club ~Tweed Tigers in FN NSW has produced a player picked by the pies.

IMO Women’s AFL shouldn’t be compared in absolute terms to mens AFL, but rather viewed as the best respective exponents of each code having a crack and providing a contest and entertainment. In broad terms (not today’s result due to BS late umpiring decision) I like AFLW and love watching, there are some seriously great athletes involved. My daughter plays u14 Richmond juniors, she (now) has a pathway. Mon Conti is a star at the level - in relative terms she has the same gap in skill level as the equivalent elite AFL midfielder to his counterparts. my amazement and respect are similar. Could Mon compete with AFL midfielders? Of course not. But for entertainment factor, and AFLW as a product, I’m equally amazed.

Also, mens footy’s been mainstream for 100+ years. Maybe we all need to give AFLW a bit more time to find it’s place.

Only a handful played well, they better be ready for next week.

Yassir
Kox
Williams

8 possessions between them.
We can’t have that, I know they haven’t played many games but that’s too big a hole.

And that’s not including Darcy

In that case seeya.
dont play her

i wouldn't take much into what "dribbles" says about who is or isn't leaving the RFC AFLW

he said we'd lose Conti, McKenzie, Yassir, probably half our side to Essendon and Hawthorn expansion
didn't happen, but wont stop him, until he's eventually right

conti needs to roll into the forward line more. her reaction time and evasiveness is twice as good as the next best player on the field. she would have won us the game if she spent some time near goals. she's the aflw shai bolton. not sure if the midfield can function without her though...

Terra it’s not womens footy that is the problem. It’s the overall product the AFL is providing.

They went to 18 clubs years and years ahead of when they should have

Some of the games are quite watchable. Particularly the foundation clubs. Many though, simply aren’t.

They should have had the guts to say no to clubs, particularly those amongst this years expansion batch who initially weren’t interested at all until the media decided they were going to over promote it.

But it is what it is. They can’t go backwards and demote clubs, so stuck with what it is for the time being.

It will take a decade at least for the standard to get to where it needs to be. Girls in the 6-13yo range now will be amazing to watch. A big part being because most will actually be footballers.

it’s hard canning Wakefield for her 3 misses when they were all into the wind.
With the stadium not complete at one end, no one ever looked like kicking anything up that end.
Geelong we’re dominant in the 3rd quarter and couldn’t do crap (without the umps help)

Their last shot at goal was a terrible decision but we aren’t going to win games kicking one goal in the first quarter and trying to hang on.

Is Mclelland injured?
If Sheerin can hold her spot, maybe we can develop Shevlin (174)as a marking wing. She can launch it 40mtr no problem.

Even the talented Conti often disposes the football poorly after she's taken on several opponents.

True , our defense stood tall we would have been deserved winners , which sounds funny on the surface but we hung tough all day and yea they hammered us 3q . I still struggle with players at top level missing from 20 out , ALL GENDERS , never see a pro golfer missing a 10” putt , same difference . I hope we don’t have same kinda season as last year , really thought we were on improve,,,perhaps I’m underestimating cats ,, they prob finished better than us last year

Ok I'll apologise I said some silly things in pure anger after yesterday's game I've reassessed and reviewed , analysed , disceted the game over 10 times now

I'm convinced we will win the flag we are that far ahead of the comp it's ridiculous the poor kicking , silly handballs are just a by product of being to talented and not knowing how to control the moment

Exciting times ahead

Maybe review your comedy routine too partner

Williams really looks like she could do something, but it was like she was focussed 100% on the opponent and tackling rather than getting the Sheeran. Frustrating to watch, need to show her videos of Maurice Jnr, if the ball is available he goes for the ball, if the ball is unavailable he destroys the phukker with the ball.
Spot on. I can see why we chased her. I'm thinking that Yassir has good finishing skills usually, so Steph to chase and harrass while Yassir can finish off
Gonna get canned for this but I’m not sold on yasir

Won't be the first player to suffer some 2nd year syndrome..... I still think she will be OK. Sits in the side better when KB plays.

I thought the girls tried their guts out, but seriously our coaching is horrendous.

Sheerin was magnificent, BOG by a country mile.

That last free kick was the worst decision in 10 years of AFL/W. How is it even possible to make 3 blatant errors in one decision that costs a team the match?
Agree, most of the girls tried to the best of their ability.

Amy McDonald was best on ground I would have thought - carved us up a again.

That free kick was given so errantly and out of proportion to what had gone before in the game. It was a howler!

Absolutely correct - I can understand people not wanting to watch it - but that is their call. However they shouldn't degrade the AFLW just because they expect something different.

Consistent at least................. keep up the bad work ;) 🤣

I have no doubt the game is progressing, I mentioned earlier I was impressed with the expansion sides and felt they were better placed than us a few years back ,, today was just an ugly scrappy game , you get that , we can play better , we looked very good in the praccys,,,kb will be a huge addition of class to f50

yeah Ferg alluded to that when interviewed start of 2nd Q

Cat's coach Lowther has turned every game since end of 2021 season, when he nearly lost his job, into a full on defensive, 1 - 2+ in the back half scrappy game
that's Geelong's game plan
he see's it as the the only way his side can be competitive, without being blown out of the water

but no excuses, we knew what was coming, played into that game style and paid the price

i will say that i enjoy the best players playing well, but G.Prespakis is looking for trouble
she leads in head 1st into every tackle, Selwood style, she's developing a very bad and dangerous habit very early on her career
her chances of neck, head injuries are on the high side
