Seriously, the media get off on a pies player or 2 missing training. We're clearly over cautious when a player has a sniffle yet the media jump on it as the 'flu'. Laughable really. Both boys will be fine for Sunday.
Agree...I'm sure there are plenty of players with sniffles this time of the year. And if we are extra cautious by having them not train, just in case it's more than a runny nose, that's not a bad thing. Probably makes those players even fresher for the game. Certainly hasn't harmed the form of players who have recently missed a training session or two.

I remember in 97 and 98 we thumped North Melbourne when they were a powerhouse and they actually played in the GF in 98 and we didn't make the top eight. It happens all the time.

Yep. In 05 we were one of the only bottom of the table sides to beat a top of the table side (Eagles) at the time.

I reckon people underestimate how much of football is played between the ears. While I don't necessarily doubt how seriously we will take this game, Carlton still has the list capable of beating anyone on their day.

On a good day, they have 2 of the best key forwards in the game and 2 of the best midfielders.

It's not a huge stretch to suggest they could get over the top of us if they all have a good day

The media are doing their best to fire up Carlton.

They have been since Sunday basically. Non-stop

I have a hunch that we'll win by 15 goals.

I really hope you're right. I've been confident going into most games this year. Just not overly confident in this one. Not because of us, but because of them.

Curnow would kick ten on Murphy.

I'd rather put Moore on Curnow and then someone like Maynard on McKay.

Yeah, nah.

Murphy is a gun defender. Selling him well and truly short. You want the 189cm Maynard on the 200cm Mckay.

I'm sure the coaches have learnt their lesson after the prelim final debacle with Bruzzy on Buddy.

In the words of the great Sam Newman….. you idiot!

Moore on McKay is a great matchup and Murphy the best option for curnow, with Maynard chipping in where needed.

Ideally if Frampton was playing then he would go to Mckay and Moore on Curnow.

However with his absence, Moore to Mckay and Murphy to Curnow is the better option.

Curnow would be too good for Murphy. Best to have our best tall defender on their best tall forward, I reckon.

Considering it's only Friday and we play Sunday afternoon, the media like to make it more dramatic. Every week we have players missing training due to flu symptoms, but they always end up playing. DeGoey missed the Saints game due to gastro.
AJ in particular will be doing everything possible to play the Sir Doug Nicholls round....

AFL.com.au journalist. Think he's actually the grandson of Ray, whom played 160 games for the Pies in the 50s and 60s. Either way, he's a Pies man.
He maybe so, but he’s not a doctor. Flu gets bandied around way too casually. For all we know, they have a runny nose and have been kept home as a precaution.

I’ll be shocked if Moore doesn’t play on Curnow.

Curnow takes his defenders up the ground a lot. Doubt that would be in our game plan - reckon Murphy starts on Curnow and we then adjust - wouldn’t surprised if Maynard gets the gig as well, the only thing I would say is that Curnow marks at the highest point which could trouble Maynard.

He might ….but to say Murphy would have ten kicked on him is idiotic.

In reality they might just match up based on which forward plays deeper and which plays higher. Either way I doubt Maynard will be a dedicated matchup to either of them.
