I think at the end there Port fans were happy to see him go because of his disposal, pace & unreliability with the kick ins.

That's quite odd, his disposal and pace are one of the reasons we here have learnt to like him so quickly. Disposes of the ball quite efficiently for a bloke of his size, and same can be said of his speed as he closes down on forwards just as big as him with no worries. I know you just want to defend Gus as the better player as thats who you have now, but he was the worst ruckman at a club doing poorly at the time (and I sort of liked him as a person!)

Knights was doing well up until his injury I'll give you that. Bling is never going to be AFL standard, even if he is ripping it up in the SANFL, he can't convert that form to the big stage unfortunately.

But the difference between Chaplin and Graham is that there was always going to be a spot in the 22 for Chaplin at Richmond. You were in dire need of a defender like him, whereas Graham is not even our third best tall and was always going to be in constant battle for a spot in the side.
Hence the difference between good list management and recruiting, and mediocre list management and bad recruiting.

I actually think I've said this about 5-6 times this year, but **** it, this is a season defining game.

We've just come off easily our best win of the year, we were fantastic against the Eagles. We've had a week off to bask in that glory. The Crows come in with a totally different mindset, two battering, wearisome losses.

If we are real, if this is the year, we rock up to the G and win this game. Takes us to 7-4 with games against the Saints and Dogs to follow which in honesty should be a lot more straightforward.

I hate to say it but anything can happen. The Crows could come out flat with a host of changes, put up no fight and limp into their bye. Or they could surge at us with redemption driving them, and if we are in any way complacent or flat I can see us losing horribly.

I would suggest we are likely winners but it is a very interesting scenario which could throw up any number of results, and this is a crucial game for our season. Get the 4 points here and its a huge step to where we want to be. I just want the boys to bring our A-game and we'll get home. I'll be a very very happy man if this happens.

Go Tiges.

Did not take too long for the preview thread to degenerate into a "our player is better than your player" scenario.

FWIW I would rather Troy Chaplin over Jenkins / Lynch / Gus etc every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Gus is a spud on the finest kind, Jenkins and Lynch are to quote the immortal Jack Dyer "good ordinary players".

cant give them an early sniff .. need to go for the throat after that sydney performance

Player that worries me = Sloan, he always seems to get on top of our midfield

Morris on sloan for me

Unlike some of the crows posters Sanderson's comments today at his presser today were both truthful and considered.
He was about as honest as a coach can be and he was pretty much spot on.

Whether it will work or not is another thing.

I'm expecting a brutal contest.

The presssure is right on the Crows this weekend after their inept performance against Sydney. I was at the game and pretty well knew from the first few minutes that ths match was going to be a lopsided affair. The Swans pressure was unbelievable and did not allow the Crows to execute continual effective disposals. This is exactly what we must do from the first bounce. Lay the early tackle and smother them, before creating rebound opportunities on the vast spaces of our comfortable surroundings.

TBTH, of the above mentioned 'quality players' it is only Dangerfield we need to tag and to a lesser extent Douglas (who is enjoying his best season ever). Thompson can be damaging if fully fit, but I've heard he is certainly not 100% at the minute and did not move freely on Saturday. As for Van Berlo, the jury is out here in Adelaide after numerous sub standard performances and the media are even suggesting omitting the captain. Finally, Bernie Vince seems to be plodding along and has not shown the consistancy that made him a good player in previous seasons.

They will come out breathing fire on Saturday after being humiliated by the biggest margin on home soil in over 15 years. If we can match their intensity in the first quarter, and be at least level pegging on the scoreboard, we should burst their bubble by the third and win the game by a reasonable 20 point margin. This is the one game I am looking forward to winning so I can shove it right up all the Cow supporters I call friends!!!

Pretty sure he won their b and f a few seasons ago.... probably not having his best ever season. Did you mean he is playing well?

I honestly think the Crows can beat us. Even if we are just 5% off our game the Crows will tear us to shreds. Expecting a tight finish. We'll see how much we've improved on Saturday with these kinds of danger games.

I'm still in shock they took Graham tbh its like xmas everyday. Onwards and upwards!

He definitely is. Angus Graham is a cancer. One of the worst players to ever play for the RFC
Part of me died when we recruited Graham.

Not even that he's a bad player per se (there are plenty of spuddy ruckmen around the league - Rhett Biglands played over 100 games for us) but just the fact that we would actually target him. He was on our hit list. Sometimes you end up with a player like Graham on your list when a draft pick doesn't quite work out. But we actively sought to get him into our club.

Made me think that the stuff we always hear about it being hard to recruit interstate players and people not wanting to come to Adelaide looks like a real factor. Makes us look like an also-ran of the competition. He's not even first ruck at Sturt at the moment (stringbean Angus Kurtze has got him covered). Just a waste of a list spot.

And he's on a two year deal

Can I borrow your manure truck?
