BTW I'm not sure BB would have a bar of that. But marketing in footy is a big deal these days. It's a business. If this did happen obviously the club would say Jack deserves it (i.e. It was achieved on merit) and it was just uncanny timing but it'd be terribly suss wouldn't it?

Aside from the fact they'd be exploiting the lad you'd have to think there'd be more undue pressure on his skinny shoulders

If the club debut Jack vs Coll in a few weeks, purposefully as a means of getting bigger gate revenue, how do we feel about that?

As it stands, Jack has deserved his dues....so in this case, no problem, situation dependent. i.e. Poor form/injury from Walker/Lamb/Everitt etc.

You're comparing apples with oranges. Boeky is quick, he has some tricks & is a good user of the ball. He fits in perfectly with the Bolton style of football.

DVR, though not super quick, is certainly a lot quicker than Graham & has a weapon in his left foot, but there is some question marks over him because he is yet to demonstrate an ability to consistently find a lot of the ball.

I have no doubt that Walker is being nursed towards his 200 game milestone, which is fair enough given his loyal service to the club, but beyond that, Silvagni will eventually take his spot in the team.

Gorringe was brought in as a stop gap for Kreuzer, being the only primary listed tall available to play in the ruck against North. He got a second game due to a late withdrawal & then of course last week had quite a good game. Being 200cm tall, more mobile than Graham, able to pinch hit in the ruck & able to take contested marks gives Bolton the second tall that he prefers to have in the team, who can hit the scoreboard & be involved in link up play further up the ground.

Graham is very much like Brock McLean. Yes he will find the ball, yes he does lay tackles (more so in tight contested situations than in running down players), but his inability to cover the ground at any rate of knots (Cripps got himself a running coach to improve his speed across the ground, although he will never be super quick, he has already demonstrated an ability to run into space) & his vanilla skill set are not going to see him considered as anything more than depth by the match committee. Realistically, he is currently competing with Sumner & Wright for a spot in the 22 & they both have him covered.
Perfectly put. I haven't given up on Graham, but he doesn't have another dimensions that Sumner and Wright have

Sits well with me and it's our home game but nothing to do with gate revenue.

No better place to debut than the MCG against our traditional rival the FILTH.

I would feel dirty as that would go against everything Bolton is trying to instill into the club.

However I know all too well, that if Jack does debut against Collingwood, it will be because of coincidence and match-ups and nothing more

Can't see Bolts taking that into consideration

Yes and No, I feel.

We have GWS straight after the bye and on their home turf. May not be the best place to debut.
The week after we're here at the MCG against a somewhat weaker back-line.

It may just work out that way by circumstances, as opposed to design.

don't think graham was that bad last week, just didn't get quite enough of it. watched him, was important in getting the early possession out of the pack quite a few times. 7 tackles which was 2nd best for the team (curnow 12). just the 16 possessions with 10 handballs though. similar sort of output you'd expect for sumner but without his speed.

I understand SOS took a long time to get over not being the 86 team.

I was at the '86 Second Semi which we beat Hawthorn. SOS was terrible that day and deserved to be dropped. Fumbled, made a lot of mistakes and out of his depth at that stage. Went on to become a legend

The reality for Nicky G is that his game has not grown from where it was at in 2014, when he was dominating at VFL level. If he can't develop a couple of more strings to his bow between now & the end of this season, I suspect he will be on the chopping block when the delistings start.
I just think it boils down to his capacity to close down space and create the necessary defensive structures. He can't do it. I don't see that changing. He'd have to create the sort of ball getting weapons that Cripps has in order to offset that problem. He's also disadvantaged by the fact Cripps is there, because Cripps is genuinely slow off the mark and not great at the defensive space task either. Having two of them creates holes on the turnover that can't be covered.

Think you may be spot on.

Cripps manages to close down space just by being ****ing enormous.

Plus opposition players don't want to go near him for fear of being caught in one of his mortal kombat finishing move tackles.
