He isn't going anywhere, as when Grundy is back he will improve the side even more, maybe in a alternating role, and finding himself forward more...

I think that might be the shift. Grundy was doing 85% of the ruck role whereas once back it might be 60/40 or 70/30 and Brodes can probably look to develop some forward craft. He did kick 2 early drifting forward one day against WCE if I remember correctly.

Huge shout out to Darcy Cameron who has seriously turned into a valuable player for us

Nicky D is going to win a brownlow, he can be that good.

Ollie Henry, what a star and continues to show why you don't drop someone with so much raw talent.. just needs as much exposure to AFL footy as possible.

Nath Murphy might be a better aerial contester than Darcy, he killed so many contests.

1st Ruck definitely is - how else do you think he’s been able to grow as a player.
It never happened when he was 2nd Ruck.
I would imagine he has always been first ruck at lower levels and that it is on the quality of his performance in that role that we traded for him. I never doubted he would acquit himself well as first ruck if given the opportunity. Realistically he is going to resume his second ruck role when Grundy returns while Cox will then be lucky to get a game. However you also say that 'it never happened when he was second ruck'. Hopefully when he returns to his secondary role his experience as first ruck will help him to step up a level as a forward/relief ruck.

Totally. The free goal to Lewis was nonsensical.
Its time the organisation acknowledged the umps need help. As a start, lets eliminate the howlers with an NRL captains call style rule. We now have an uber professional game, i think the time were we say, 'oh, its an imperfect game, let's bath in the beautiful, interprerative vaguary that are some of our adjudications', belong in a bygone era.. Tie for some corrective action

I would prefer we give Grundy a new challenge that could make us even more competitive, and allow Cameron to keep his 1st Ruck role.

Imagine if we all called Dwayne tomorrow on Sen and he had to listen to us complaining about his biased commentary.
I'd call him and laugh in his face for his utterly hopeless commentary - if I thought he was worth the cost of a phone call.

As it is . . . he's worthless as either a commentator or special comments.

Total waste of space.

I too would like to see Cameron continue as first ruck, and I'd be fascinated watching the not quite 7 million dollar man trying to adapt to a new role. However, this would also highlight the folly of signing Grundy to such a long term lucrative contract.

Cameron goes to the forward line and Cox goes out.
Unfortunately that's what will happen.

I can't think of any game in the first 6 rounds, and frankly not many from 2020 or 2021 either, where Grundy has been better than the Cameron/Cox combo has been the last few weeks. Even Begg was doing better general work around the ground than Grundy.

I still don't think we've seen anywhere near enough of Grundy in the forward line to say that he wouldn't be valuable there. I don't know what's gonna end up happening with Cox, especially if he's playing this consistently well until the end of the season, but when Grundy returns he should not be playing 90% in the ruck anymore. Cameron is a genuinely good ruck and needs to at-least split the ruck duties with Grundy evenly in the future.

This is reasonable.

We're more competitive with the Cox/Cameron combo than we were with Grundy grinding it out for 90% of the match.

Having said that, I'm optimistic that the side can be better with Grundy; just not as it was.

This is a good problem to have.

Cameron offers a little less in the actual ruck contests that Grundy, but he offers a significant upgrade in marking contests around the ground.

Cox offers about as much as Grundy in the ruck, and a little more in the air.

Grundy kills both on the ground and in follow-up work.

I guess the question is what we value the most in our ruck division. Brodes is elite at the non-typical ruck traits like clearances and tackling, but not so amazing at those aerial things you generally expect from your ruckman.

At the very least, the last few weeks have shown that the sky won't fall in on us without Brodie in the side. If he can come back in and rediscover his best, then that's great. If we can find a trade destination for him and free up a million per year, then that's great too.
