Another AFL scheduling special playing back to back games outside of Melbourne.

Our draw for a back to back a wooden spooner this year is horrid.
It's stiff that we've copped it twice, but my gripe is with the Tassie contract. Without it we'd have 5/23 games interstate plus a trip to Geelong, which would bring us in line with semi-comparable teams fanbase wise, like the Dogs and the Saints.

At this point we're a quasi interstate team, and it really pisses me off that some of our crowd numbers make that development seem logical

All talk no walk. Heard the same spin over and over again.
In fairness, last time one of the skippers came out with something like this, after the St Kilda game, we were pretty competitive against the teams in the vicinity of our level in the weeks afterward. We didn't actually win one, and it's pretty crap that the club seems to be stuck in this loop, but I expect some genuinely good performances in a few of these back end games. Not this week however

Few changes after a pretty devastating loss:

FB: Ziebell, McKay, Logue
HB: Perez, McDonald, Sheezel
C: Scott, LDU, Ford
HF: Thomas, Stephenson, Simpkin
FF: Zurhaar, Larkey, CCJ
FOL: Xerri, Wardlaw, Philips
INT: Harvey (debut), Tucker, Shiel, Bergman
MEDI: Curtis
I’d be giving Dawson a crack before giving McDonald a good spell in the VFL maybe for a good month as if he continues to keep playing in the AFL and continues to play poor it will send a message to others that poor form is rewarded.
If Port can drop there captain in Jonas why can’t we do the same or are we scared too as we kept Goldstein out of the team in Round 1 and from people are saying here could be dropped this week a champion of this club and also we dropped another legend of this club In Cunnington so we shouldn’t be playing favourites to any player at this club.

If round 1-6 Ziebell returns, McKay version of * and STK plays and McDonald can lock down Rankine then maybe just then we might get a look in.

The fact is round 2 aside, out form away from Marvel is no good. Here's the result of the 6 losses below.
RD 3. L - 19PTS
RD 5. L - 75PTS
RD 6. L - 43PTS
RD 7. L - 90PTS
RD 9. L - 70PTS
RD 13. L - 28PTS

We average a 9 goal loss. Hopefully our form under Ratten can see that trend end.

For comparisons sake the 6 games at Marvel that we lost are below.
RD 4. L - 23PTS
RD 8. L - 30PTS
RD 10. L - 3PTS
RD 11. L - 35PTS
RD 12. L - 6PTS
RD 14. L - 21PTS

Average losing margin 19 points.

The positive I see is that we are super competitive at home. We weren't under Noble. Geelong has made a living off banking wins at GMHBA. We need to turn Marvel into a fortress. The next step is to travel well but this might take another year or so.
Baby steps.
I posted this last week and I just lol at "if McDonald can lock down on Rankine".
We got done by 66 points so we actually did worse than the average 9 goal loss away from Marvel.

This week if we go with the same back 6 again then I give us no hope.

50-60 point belting weather permitting.

Sometimes its exhausting following this club. Not just for the lack of success but for what feels like an eternity since we weren't rooted to the bottom.

This might sound outlandish and over the top but for this club to get serious and to actually truly start the road back towards finals and god willing a 5th flag, we must drop McDonald and Ziebell. What'd I give to see McDonald and Corr/Ziebell out and Perez/Archer in.
It will shake the very fabric of the club and put the whole list on notice.
It needs to happen. For Norths sake and for the development of all these kids at the club.

This isn't a personal opinion either. It literally stems from frustrations amongst the playing group.
Selection standards must apply for all. We did it to Goldi. We did it to Cunners. McDonald and Ziebell next. I note Clarko did drop Goldi on the eve of round 1 and dropped Cunners before the Port game. So I wonder if Ratts doesnt feel like he has the authority to make an example of the captain.
Based on this, Im adamant Clarko would have made a call a week or two ago if he was still at the club.

Cats are current the second worst disposal efficiency and ball movement side in the comp…

Gryan Miers is critical to nearly every time they score. Absolutely must put a lot of work into him this week.

Inevitably means he will kick 4 on LMac and have 6 goal assists.

Archer won't come in. Same with Goater. Both need more time in the magoos. It carries a distinct whiff of shitmen, but I wouldn't mind seeing Howe and Young come in. Young won't take his opportunity for granted like LMac has been, is more athletic, and about as agile. Howe genuinely deserves a call up and can fill any spot in the middle third. Has penetration on his kicking and can move. Sort of player that's good for structure in a game where we might have nine forwards on the field

Perez ahead of archer. Further evidenced by being named an emergency

And you missed xerri in for Goldy

Yep. I have no issue with Howe whatsoever getting games over some. Long term, probs not but he is fit, runs and is at worst the same as many others. I'd be keen to bring Young or Dawson in just to shake things up. Again, I don't see how either of these are worse as of this week and at least they offer more unknown for an opponent to worry about.

I wouldn't be dropping Ford for any of those players. He had 1/4 of our tackles i50.
