Autopsy Round 19, 2023 : Hawks can’t get it done against Tigers

Yes lets celebrate a s**t awful effort.

Breust had 30 seconds to do a set shot from in front of goal but instead rushes a left foot snap. They get a goal.

Brockman had the ball 60m out and instead of steadying and finding a safe teammate he rushes the ball to the middle missing everything and they get a goal.

Their kid in his 1st game had way more composure.

Weddle stopped and watched there too. He would have easily been first to the ball.

We didn't deserve to win the game in the end, Richmond had several more scoring shots than us. We were just quite accurate.

But it still obviously hurts to choke as hard as that, and to continuously concede goals at the end of quarters is concerning. That's the sign of an undisciplined and fragile side. Hopefully that's just due to inexperience.

* if you had said at the start of the game we would lose narrowly to Richmond I wouldn't have been disappointed. Obviously just the way we lost makes it hurt.

Just shows how young we are mate.

I suspect in the morning you'll see today as a massive positive.

I genuinely don't think DGB will make it, but subbing him despite zero touches was a huge swing... tigers dominated our second half entires aerially.

Long a poor sub choice.
Zero touches is shit but he did halve some contests. Long did less. In fact with hindsight DGB down back in the last would have been the difference.

Once again we don't slow the play when we have a lead. It's a legitimate problem and sure inexperience is a factor but it's happened a lot this year.

Also why was Lewis constantly up at the contest in the last 10 minutes so that when we did kick it long from a stoppage, Richmond just easily intercept.

This is a thoroughly disappointing loss because we should not lose that game from that position.

If only we kept on the other forward…..hmmmm

That was unpleasant but I’d rather they lose this one today than an important much in similar circumstances in a few years. Richmond is a good team and their season was on the line. They were always going to come home hard because a loss today would have ended their finals chances pretty much. It’s not nice but I’d take this over the early season thrashing’s every day. We’ll learn and we’ll be stronger for it.

Great 3 quarters.
0 goals in the last can’t expect to win.
Learn a lot from that. Still so much to improve on but nothing but positives for me.
We need to sign and keep Brocky.
Amon was a great signing.
My only concern is they way we are handling DGB. Pick a position and let him develop and be ready at VFL. We have confused him

Not the last 10 minutes of play, you put two players behind the ball leaving nothing to kick to when you had possession going forward. Dumb coaching, no faith in the players.

Go away

Deserved to lose with that last quarter. The choice of Breust to snap on his left instead of a straight drop punt directly infront was a shocker and would have put us 36 up. Lewis has to learn to half contests, gets out positioned a lot. Sicily was great, but has to learn to shut his mouth, gave away a costly 50.
Really disappointing last quarter, just made so many poor decisions.

Lewis was 3v1 at every contest in that last quarter. No resting ruck + DGB (who hadn’t done anything mind you) subbed we had probably the shortest forwardline in the comp. Despite that, we continued to bomb it long under the Richmond pressure. Lewis can only do so much.

Sicily should have been given a free against for holding Jack, and was also paid a dropped mark. Can’t complain too much about the umps. It was a good old fashioned choke, much like the Richmond of old.
Clear free kick but I think he held that mark long enough compared to many that get paid

Biggest problem we have is that we don't have leadership against the tide. There is no Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis to put the team on their back when we lose momentum.
I love our young kids coming through and they have high footy IQ but they don't have true leadership. Think we need to look at that closely in the draft.

Geez Reeves is a liability. That’s enough for a while. Give Meek a crack. Watched Reeves closely at game and he’s just a statue,
Unable to give any help once the ball is bounced.

His ruck work at times today was absolutely fantastic

And I swear some people must have watched Breust for the first time ever today. He took his time and lined up that left footer the same as he’s done 100 times over. He generally kicks them. It’s not like it was a poor kick it just caught the inside of the post. We were still 5 goals up and in control …. We lost this game because we stopped running, defended poorly and lost all composure.

But 0 touches, fair enough to sub him

We play well when we have two key forwards. They have some of the best intercepting backs. You make it so easy for them when they don’t have to be accountable.

Queue the usual posters coming in with their typical negative bullshit

That's absolutely precious.

Find something positive about our last quarter performance I dare you.

Holier-than-though bullsh!t from the usual suspects.

And the word you are looking for is cue.

C-U-E

But why bother with little details like proper English when you can bring your special brand of bullsh!t into the thread.

At the game you could tell early in the first that we’d be run over. We ran out of gas and couldn’t get our hands on it.

Really missed Blanck in the last, it was Sicily or bust with all the repeat entries and he can only do so much.

****ing gutted. We should be winning that.
