Autopsy Round 19, 2024 : Hawks flatten Pies

Not many in the Collingwood cheersquad - they've all jumped off the bandwagon pretty quickly

The only thing Collingwood does better than lose grand finals is having their fans piss off well before 3QT when they are getting beat. Such a heartless fanbase when they aren’t up and about.

Haha sorry mate! I get howled down all the time , have to start holding people to account because if you go back and look I’m nearly always proven right.
Not sure about that, can't see how Ginni would have made a difference that game. Our whole team was flat and we were thrashed.

Was great tonight though, probably the best game of his career! Loved him giving it to the Collingwood cheer squad!

WTF was the cameraman doing running out onto the field after Ginnivan's second goal?

I just realised he must have gone out onto the field to get the close-ups of him. That's the first time I can remember it happening.
My partner noticed this, we've never seen it happen before either.

Bloody hell that was oodles of fun and enjoyment. Thumped them from start to finish, all over the ground. A huge score in those conditions as well.

GInni is an absolute menace :laughv1: loves working the crowd and isn't alone in that regard either. Love seeing their personalities and emotions on display under Sam.

You beauty, Hawkers!

Don't think I was too far off in the preview thread. Watto could've easily had the 5-6 goals if he wasn't so unselfish but it was definitely his coming out party and it will take a phenomenal performance from someone else for him not to bag the rising star nomination.

Great win! I thoroughly enjoyed watching that game. A very even performance from the team across the board!

Certainly not taking away from us, but the Pies were clearly off and have a number of key outs to date . I've been envious of the Pies the last couple of seasons, and really enjoyed their style of play during that time (in particular the way they iced close games) . I can see parts of our game plan mirroring theirs.

Definitely a strange game to comment it on. I thought Finn made a great sub, injected a lot of good energy and run and got involved in quite a few of the chains that kept us in it. Certainly not as bad as made out, nor worth the whining about pre-game.
Finn did do a great job. But I'd still like him to play a full game rather than the sub due to his endurance.

Who was saying Maginness was a dumb choice as sub?

Thought he showed the power and athleticism he's been showcasing at Box Hill the last month.

Looks really dangerous when he pushes forward.
Yeah he was good, some just assumed he was there to tag. He was selected today because he's been exceptional as a ball winning mid pushing forward at box hill. Basically took Mackenzie's spot.

He took a little bit to get up to pace as he was a bit slow of mind at the start then adjusted to the intensity of AFL again and was a big reason we pushed our lead back out rather than let them continue closing in in the last quarter. I think they got it back to 39 at one point. We were never going to lose but it might have ended up as a 25 point win instead of a 66 point thumping.

I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned this already but if not for that port game we would be sitting in fifth position at the moment.

We needed that Port game. Against St. Kilda we went ultra defensive in the last, and almost lost it without scoring. That loss has prevented us from going into our shells and is the reason we beat quality opponents like the Lions, Dogs, GWS, and Freo when they challenged.

Would like the Collingwood game in round 4 back though.

Crazy win but it was well planned and managed. Mitchell out coached McCrae by a long way. The mixing the ruck with Meek, Chol and Nash, I think, was really unsettling for Collingwood and in the end McCrae tried Moore in there. Albeit in the last quarter. Speaking of Moore, I thought Chol played an exceptional game keeping him at bay from the high ball and contests with his body and just focusing on bringing the ball to ground which resulted in several goals. I think that was also a reason why we got so many goals out the back. All our small forwards starred. Ginnivan, Watson, Breust and McDonald had outstanding games. McDonald is becoming a real go to man. He knows how to kick them and I feel very confident when he has the ball now. I hope Bruest gets another year. Showed tonight he still has plenty to offer. Main thing is he is fit and is well managed. There was plenty more with the likes of Jiath and Mass and Impy and Amon and I thought both Ward and Finn had really good games but I don't have the energy. I will say however, Geelong really did their homework and knew what to expect a few weeks ago. They did plan well which is why they beat us so easily and the coaches were so happy and relieved after the game. I would love to make the finals and play them again this year.
And at the G instead of that narrow passageway

Sam Mitchell knows Hawthorn aren't winning a flag anytime too soon.

I would bet good money that Mitchell wants to spend the next few years racking up Top 5 picks
Sam sucks at tanking...
