Sof has a foot injury

AFL-listed players Finlay Macrae and Oscar Steene will play their first games at VFL level for 2024, while defender Cooper Macdonald will make his Club debut.

The game will be Crocker’s 87th at VFL level – with his first 41 games played in the black and white while on the AFL list.

He has since played three seasons with Carlton and will line up against his old side straight away for his first game of 2024.

Macrae – who has played three AFL matches so far this year – will take his place in a strong midfield that includes Ned Long, and Ed Allan.

Steene will assume his position in the ruck alongside comrade Aiden Begg, having overcome a facial fracture that doubled with concussion in a practice match last month.

Making way for the quartet is injured duo Jakob Ryan and Sam Sofronidis, as well as VFL-listed players Chad Mulvogue and Liam Purcell.

Ryan injured his hand at AFL training last week and is expected to miss several weeks, while Sofronidis will miss due to a foot injury.

In: Ben Crocker, Cooper Macdonald, Finlay Macrae, Oscar Steene

Out: Chad Mulvogue, Liam Purcell, Jakob Ryan, Sam Sofronidis

Guess there was also a bit of gap down there with both Ryan & Sof out.
Yeah, though Cooper replaces Ryan. And they have pushed Glover back to fill the tall defender though
Sullivan just replacing Mulvogue in that small half back role I think.

Not sure where they are named has much correlation to where they will play
If today's match sim was anything to go by, it's where he'll play. But they had to move someone else around to give fin as much midfield as possible
And with Allan playing inside and Long too and Sparkes the other mid on the bench. Guess someone just had to be more versatile.

Makes as much sense as Bytel and Carmy on wings , so anything’s possible I suppose

The VFL line up is generally how they play from my experience. And Bytel and Carmy, like you said, occupy the wings.
Looks like Cooper has replaced Ryan and Glover been moved back to fill the sof spot as the tall defender.

Sullivan looks to have replaced Mulvogue as that small half back

I would have Jiath Glover and Markov as my half back line
And McDonald Dean and Lane on last line
We miss Jetta down there
Be interesting which end Crocker plays

He’s looking a good 5kg heavier than i remember
I'd hope so. He's not a kid anymore. Been around the block since he was with us.
Was dealing with a groin injury through pre-season, but finally fit. Been back in full training for a few weeks, and what a game to come back in!

Probably a good test for him to see how he goes there. Could challenge Noble for a spot.

I wouldn't think so. Doesn't have Noble's pace or ability to break lines. I'm very curious how he would go off half back though. Is it more of a maynard tough, type pocket role? Or something that Pendles or nick would do?
I didn't really notice him much during match play today, so we'll see.

That's true about Noble. That said, he has some midfield skills that could translate.

He could also be moved around during the game and he's there as a placeholder. VFL team lineups are notorious for changing during the game or just before it.

They are, but it just corresponds to how they lined up this morning, so seems like its something they want to try out at very least.
I'm curious to see how it works though.

Crocker redemption arc.

Kicks 34 goals in 6 games.

Gets put on senior list in mid year draft.

Kicks 57 goals in 10 games including 8 in a famous come from behind preliminary final win against Carlton.

Wins Norm Smith Medal for defensive forward role against Harris Andrews.

I’m all for it.

Looking forward to watching to see how the kids perform tomorrow. With the bye, and before then the interstate trip, feels like its been ages since since a game.
With a few senior spots at least half available, there's plenty of incentive for them to perform well in the coming weeks.
