Higgins and Hayes in

NWM & Windhager stay in, I like this if we can get 15 games into these 2 what a bonus
Love Hayes but feel personally Campbell may have been a better selection. Hayes will give a contest all day and is better around the ground.
Love Higgo. Wonder how we rejig for Jimmy?

Marshall and Hayes basically give us two extra midfielders on the spread. If we can launch off half back then that will be a God send

In the next 1-2 weeks we hypothetically could be getting back Jones, Billings, Ryder, Clark and Webster. That’s massive to already the highest scoring side in the comp. And just in time for Melbourne / Geelong.

The lid is far from off, and our list is strong enough without them, but we have far more things to be happy about then upset. And that’s darn refreshing.

Let’s take care of Gold Coast, 1 week at a time.

If they win it's because their midfield beats ours. Without Paddy we have one arm tied behind our back while Witts gives them a huge advantage. Steele and Miller are about break even, Rowell, Anderson and Weller against Ross, Gresham and maybe Sincs. It's pretty even if they play to maximum capacity.
It must be remembered Marshall has had 2 years of interrupted through injury and we only picked up Ryder to help Rowan with his tap work and that stage hardly anyone was using 2 ruckmen.
No one was expecting Ryder to still be dynamic as he has showed or we would not of got him for nothing and Port wouldn't of picked up Lycett.

I love what Ryder has done for us but in all reality he has stalled Marshall's progress as a ruckman , once Marshall gets back to playing his 90% game time in the ruck he might get back to the form we actually saw him when he surprised us all taking over when Hickey and Longer couldn't play.

Marshall now has the chance to show us his ruck craft is improving and it has to be remembered most of these ruckmen are useless until they get into there late 20s like Hickey , Pitonet and even Salmon at Hawthorn.

We also can't rely on a aging 34yr old who is only likely to play half a season like the last 2 years - it's time for Marshall to step up to the plate.

Anyway this my view on it.

Gold Coast has a extremely good midfield but will find it tough against the more seasoned Saints midfield with Steele , Crouch and Ross pressuring them all day and Gresham and Sinclair giving us the spark in the midfield we have been missing.

A lot of good teams have had rucks below par like the Dogs and the mids just live with it.

Gold Coast have a good midfield but the Back line and Forward line are really not very good , leading me to say we should win this game comfortably and our only danger is Touk Miller - restrict him and our margin will be bigger.

Then again if we don't bring the pressure or hunger for the ball we can lose to any team.

I have a similar feeling about us now to 09 just before people realised we were really good. Looking at the Gold Coast forum, some of their supporters genuinely think this is a 50-50 game.

I hope we go out with absolute respect and planning for them just as we did Hawthorn, but really we should win easily. Our midfield is much more experienced and we are stronger than them in every area of the ground.

Wow Gold Coast's forward line looks terrible on paper. Casboult CHF??

Casboult is a much better player than he used to be. Even late Carlton he learn to convert. Chol plays there when not rucking and Corbett scored a few last week as did Rosas.

From being at the last two matches, I’ve noticed he starts a lot of centre bounces at half forward, especially when Gresh is in the middle. Then after the bounce Gresh tends to roll forward and get dangerous whilst Crouch moves up the ground and takes his spot in the mids.

I’d say this is due to the coaches liking Gresh’s explosion from the middle when it’s a centre bounce with open space and only the 3 mids plus ruck allowed in the square. Then Crouch comes in and gets in and under for stoppages around the ground when the numbers pile up and make it more contested.

Incredibly pleasing

Just watching the replay now for the first time and the shots in the box on Ratten.....he does look a bit sweaty, red faced, puffy faced,
and was during a lot of water.....

Bad idea.
There goes our free kick parity

Straight forward changes. Id expect to see DMac and Hill spend some time at half-back to replace Webster.

Great to have Higgins back. He was looking ominous at the start if the Richmond game.

Even with the outs, this team is still strong enough to win.

So all of Max, Hayes, Membrey, Higgins, Hill, Butler, Long, Windhager and Gresh playing forward? Or are either Long or Windhager moving out of there?
Windhager probably plays on the wing and.half forward

Gresham mostly midfield

Hill will probably rotate wing and half forward.
Did still start on thr wing on a few occassions last week

I really believe our list stacks up to any team - our forward line is our weapon , our backline goes under the radar and our midfield has been rejuvenated because of the inclusion of Gresham and Sinclair just adding that speed.

Just look at the guys we have
Steele - Best and Fairest / St Kilda and All Australian
Hill - Best and Fairest / Fremantle
Crouch - Best and Fairest / Adelaide
Ross - Best and Fairest / St Kilda
Butler - one of the best defensive small forwards
Membery - every team would love him in there team
Sinclair
- as close to elite as you can get
Marshall - His ability to pickup possessions around the ground with his contested marking is a game changer
Higgins
- Milne like around goals
King
- Can change a game in 10 minutes
Ryder - Just a weapon when plays
Wilkie - Gets given tasks every week hand hardly ever loses - have seen him beat Franklin and as we saw last week against Gunston.
Howard - Much maligned, ranked #1 %ers , was so highly rated he Capt Port as a 23yr old you - is our leader down back.
Webster - Another that goes under the radar , hardly ever lowers his colors.
Paton - Coming back from a horrific injury but has the ability to cover the best smalls in the game.
Battle - Is settling in to a position that he will excel at.
McKenzie - Many might just rate him as a fill in but he has shown the fierce attack on the ball that is required and is a elite runner.

Clark - I guy who is just starting to show how good he is.
Billings - A guy that has become a whipping boy but he has shown can be more than a run of the mill player.
Jones - Has the speed and pressure to improve our midfield but another who has suffered with injuries.

To me this is our starting 20 when fit and as you see there is no weak link - a lot of the top teams have one or 2 positions with very average players.

But the game changer for us this year is we have depth and all have claims of coming into the squad without really weakening the team.
