Billings could come back in, but it's not gonna be for Nas on this form. He's still a few weeks off anyway, chances are a spot will open up due to form (wood?) or injury. He's a good player, but we don't need to drop a classy young player that is performing. Last time a young player had a run for us like this was gresh.. maybe paton but he was a year older

Was interesting to hear Higgins thoughts on why we've improved after the match

Put it down to a big pre season and getting a good defensive coach in...
I'm glad we got through this game unscathed , no injuries and 4 points.
We never played as good as we can but we got the job done.
Suns have a very good midfield and as we saw Touk Miller is one of the best 3 midfielders running around and for us to still win the clearances 42 to 24 just shows our midfield is.
We can contain most midfield's with the pressure from Steele , Crouch and Ross allowing Gresham and Sinclair to play to there best of there ability and when Jones and Clark get back just makes us bat deeper.
Our forward is the point of difference to me having Higgins , Gresham , Butler , King , Membery , Hill and all can kick a bag when on and I could also see Billings playing a role on the half forward line - if King is held the others come into the game.
We can also change it up with Long , Hayes , Wood going in there if needed and Sharman hasn't been let loose yet.

So King and Daniher are equal first for goals and contested marks.
However King is 5th in the league for Score involvements! Not only does he go himself he sets up so many scoring shots for others. Genuine star already
He is already a star , there is nothing better than a key forward taking contested marks and he is only going to get better.

A few things I noticed today

Cal Wilkie is still under rated was brilliant today.

From what I saw of the Zebs Jones got plenty of ball but was pretty rusty with his disposal.

NWM’s barrel caught a few by surprise hope to see more of them.
Wilkie was so good today rock solid
How hard Membrey works is underrated too

Why is hunter a walk up start , sure he can do that thing that makes us go wow once every three weeks, he needs to be able to do that several times a game , he'll even NWM has done kicks in his first few games that only hunter would dream of doing, yes I think hunter will be a good player for us in the future but he is still a little way of it ATM IMO

This changed the momentum

I didn't realise at the time the effect that tackle had on the game, but when I saw it I thought "That's one thing Long does better than anyone else in the team" He's like a dog with a bone sometimes. Like a 'for hire' assassin who's role it is to seek the ball carrier and deal with them.

Players to come in:

Jones, Clark, Billings, Ryder, Webster

Players to go out for them:

Hayes
Lienert
Windy
Long

Which imo leaves one of Wood or Nas going out as the fifth. Neither really deserve to be dropped though (but probably neither do Hayes or Long or Lienert tbh).

That said, there's never zero injuries so I don't see this selection conundrum coming up any time soon.

Clark averages 20+ touches in the midfield which is something Nas can only dream of at this point, Clark's clearly better if we're trying to win games.

Unfair comparison. Clark was never known for a particularly fantastic kick or pace. He’s just a tidy player kick wise. His evasive work is his specialty.

No way does Nas get the flick
His vision and kicking is A grade

Must stay in until he needs a rest to not burn him out
Seems like he isn't near empty, he's super impressive. I know I'm a dumb broken record but he has to be one of the best kicks in the whole AFL, his passing is just elite. For a guy who's played 3 (2?) games, I have total faith when the ball is in his hands. And his speed is incredible, I don't think we got a good look at his speed today, but he's super quick.

I wasn't trying to compare the two just showing that being flashy doesn't make you a walk up start

It was massive, they were pushing forward and we were outnumbered and then Long came in like a wild animal and split the contest, turned it over and got us the ball back. From memory we scored.

No but being one of the best kicks in the side and gaining 490 meters doesn't do you any harm in keeping your spot

Clark is a star who unfortunately we havnt been able to see enough of due to injuries. His kicking is not technically as good as say Sincs or NAS but his decision making and the fact he can kick equally as good on his left means that he’s at both their levels. He’s an absolute star and imo is gonna have a simmilar level of impact to that of what Gresh has provided. I’m super exited to see us rotate Sincs and Clark on the ball and HB. He’s a walk up start and was close to BOG in our last praccy match.if anyone has any doubts watch his final against the dogs.

Frankly, this is all a bit academic.

It’s the Dees by the length of Flemington straight unless the wheels fall completely off…

Wood is one of the hardest working when you watch him live. I’ve really noticed that this year being able to be at games.

He gets all the way back to defence and spoils in a way I confuse him with Dougs. Then he’s up the ground and snapping from outside 50. Suddenly he’s almost playing an inside role in the contest and earns a clearance.

He’s like Mr fixit Membrey with Brad Hill running.

Physicality is scary for opposition players too
I noticed on the broadcast just how fast he runs to areas, I guess it's not obvious when the ball isn't in his hands, but it's not to say he isn't giving 100%. He's another option, that's worth something even if it isn't counted as a statistic for Mondays newspaper.

Probably mentioned earlier, but Crouch had 8 touches and minimal influence at half time but ended up with 27 - pretty solid 19 touch second half when the game was there to be won. He's quietly putting together a pretty good season.
He has improved his game on the defensive side (most tackles today) and he is one of the reasons our midfield has improved , you only have to look at our clearances - 42 to 24 and Crouch had the most clearances as anyone with 9 he also had the most score involvements with 9 with only Higgins with more.
He is a very good player who just gets the job done.

Coaches would notice though. Hence him keeping his spot
