Not a selection prediction but I wonder if Simmo pulls out the tapes from the more aggressive derbies, Demolition derby and some of the earlier ones. Have a line in the sand, not going to be pushed around by the little brother no more type of game.

Tap into some of that history.

I'm suggesting Ryan 'might' come in for a forward role against Freo. We could use more firepower up front, no doubt they'll be focussing on Jake after his big haul.
Ryan has done some work at half back in the WAFL and Simmo said it was to freshen him up and that role might come in handy in the future, but doubt it would be against Freo? But Agree that it would be very Jetta like with skills and precise kicking if/when that did happen...
Liam’s had some serious time out of the game.
Is he still going to be aiming for MOTY (although it caused injury) or is he going to be more focused on his speed and smarts? If the latter what chance he could become another Jetta?

It's just a mad hunch Ryan 'might' come in for Freo game. I understand he could use another week or two in WAfl. Everything is speculation (and nuts) on 'Changes'. I don't expect him to be in the backline.
If in the future he's played in the backline I imagine he would be just as deadly as Jetta, possibly better?

Changes this week could be as simple as who replaces Luke Edwards and there’s six viable options albeit some people won’t be happy about a couple of those options

• Gaff - been in the doghouse since being dropped after R1. Been putting up solid numbers in the WAFL and has been an exemplary teammate in the young side. Think we’re better with younger options though
• Sheed - has played 2 games coming back from a long layoff. Think he’ll eventually come into the side but could do with another week in the WAFL at least as he regains touch and match fitness
• Trew - seems to have been the most consistent WAFL performer amongst the young group and arguably deserves a crack. Main problem is he’s an inside mid and Edwards role was more outside. If we bring him in it would be better if we can play him to his strengths
• Hall - still finding touch after missing a few weeks. He’s close but WAFL form not quite good enough to get a promotion yet
• Ryan - we need him in the side asap but only when he’s properly fit. Looked good from the WAFL highlights but only played about 60% game time. Another week in the WAFL to build his fitness won’t hurt

My choice is Harvey Johnston

Been solid in the WAFL. Reports are that he’s been strong defensively and he’s been playing the same wing role that Edwards has been playing

Play him as the sub the same way we did with Rawlinson to give him a taste

100% Harvey.

Changes this arvo
In: Sheed, Johnston (sub)
Out: Edwards (protocols), Maric
Emergencies: Trew (held over), Gaff, Maric

Sheed straight swap for Edwards. Johnston to be rewarded for his good WAFL form with a debut as sub. Maric to go back to WAFL as we can’t fit him in the 22 and he can’t be sub again.

Trew to be rewarded for his good WAFL form by having to sit out as the 24th man.

No change to the backline if Jamieson’s unavailable.

Gaff, Ryan, Culley, Jones, Hedwards, Barnett, Hall, Burgiel, Archer, Rawlinson, Dewar, Baker, Livingstone to form a very strong WAFL side.

Like these changes.

Add Maric to the WAFL list.

Potentially 14 playing WAFL. With the WAFL games so close to the AFL, would be nice for the held over player to be able to play on restricted minutes, in the WAFL. Unlikely however.

I think we should add Sheed and Ryan for Edwards and Brockman. If we can get sheed back to his best like Yeo we will have a clutch premiership player that preformes well in pressure situations to feed the bulls Reid, Yeo and Kelly.

Ryan would add x factor to our forward line that we are missing, and apparently we can swing down back if needed lol

Not a fan of Witho in backline but want to keep changes to a minimal. I do like Brockman but probs best he finds form in WAFL

my exact changes too tbh, Johnston liked for a while before we drafted him so have that reward for effort + trew as well. Good to still have that leadership in the wafl too to help the kids out there

If we are trying to bring players back from injury the right way, Ryan has to play at least one more in the WAFL surely, playing the whole game out or at least very close to it. Sheed has done 2 WAFL games now so close enough.

Agree with other recent posts here, Sheed for Edwards, then Maric back to the WAFL with a new sub to replace him, probably Johnston but Trew id be ok with too based on form. Dont like debuting kids as the sub if possible

We might have issues with Freos tall forward line, id rather Gov not be responsible for one of them but if Jamo isnt ready then we dont have a choice. Cant see us bringing in H.Edwards to cover Jamo tbh

Save that lever for when it matters more

Sheed should get the pick, playing on a wing has never really been an issue for him its his inside capabilities that have been shithouse the past 2 years. I'd feel bad leaving Gaff out considering his body of work at WAFL level, but it's probably best he doesn't play his first game back against Freo. Usually goes into a shell when we play derbies and it just fires up the snr freo players and gets them to play a more physical game.

Ryan is so underdone, needs at least one more week before he is ready for a call up. Also don't trust him to do the right thing for his body in a derby after last year.

We are really going to miss Jamieson in the backline with Darcy coming back, would much prefer him manning Jackson rather then Rotham. Our backline is going to be an issue with Tracey Amiss and Jackson running Amock.

Doubt it will be Simmo led, but if we can engineer a Ryan/Serong double suspension then happy for some of our players to get weeks.

Who's our 'best blokes' we can organise to push the limits?

Unfortunately for Gaffy, all his tin rattling for Foodbank ain't going to help:

Can hardly have expected Waterman to dominate as a big key forward given he's played everywhere for the past 7 years and has been behind JK, Darling and Allen in the pecking order.

He won't play like that all the time obviously but it's not like he's been struggling at FF for 7 years, he's hardly played there. The other positions he's been in aren't the type to grab a game by the nuts.

Waterman is a leading FF.

THAT's his best position. And 100% he has rarely been given the opportunity to play there.

It is as the saying goes. From adversity comes opportunity.

From the press conference

• Ryan plays WAFL
• Sheed a chance but will be sub if he plays
• Jamieson has “tendonopathy” whatever that is and will be out for a while. No time frame given as to what a while means
• When asked about Gaff the answer indicated he’ll be staying in the WAFL until availability becomes an issue
• Mentioned synergy with a grin saying it’s important to get players playing in the same positions each week

Based on that I think it’ll be a straight swap of Sheed for Edwards with Maric going into the 22 and Sheed being the sub

Darcy in for Freo but no backflips

Tendonopathy is not great. It’s basically another word for tendinitis.

Chronic inflammation of the tendon. Will be out for a while, medium to long term.

He could be our LTI candidate.

If we are serious about being competitive in this game (or the foreseeable future), Sheed should be nowhere near this side. He is completely unaccountable and if he plays in the middle, we end up with one player down because he doesn’t put any pressure on the opposition.
I would bring in Trew and reward good form in the 2s from our younger guys.

The idea would be for him to play an outside role that he doesnt need to be as accountable, not inside mid like hes been forced to play the last few years.
No chance he pushes out Yeo/Kelly/Reid/Ginbey from the main midfield rotation

In: Johnston, Trew
Out: L.Edwards, Maric

Maric was quiet last week i feel the extra rotation on ball will help us match a quick Fremantle team. Will also allow Harley to rest at FF which is a dangerous proposition.

Sub: Johnston
