If Edwards is the only forced change then Trew to come in.

Bring in the kid who is fitter, in better form and playing for a contract. Ryan and Sheed can get another game into their legs and earn a recall.

Feel we are tall enough down back. TB, Gov, Rotham and Hough.

Duggan and Witherden also good at supporting.

Maric can drift back also.

Front runner, but makes it work. Seems to do most of his damage coming up to the play then slipping out and running full pace back to goal. I'd be reasonably comfortable with Hough playing on him and staying goal side, with a particular focus not to get sucked into the footy unless he is going to impact it.

Walters is looking a little rusty. Whoever can best tackle around the hips to avoid gifting him some high free kick goals should get that match up.
The tackler also has to be cautious not to fall into the back of Walters when he does the jump forward to the ground routine.

Let me know when Hall, Hewett, Culley, Burgiel, Ryan & Allen are in. When Flynn comes in moving B Williams to CHF, 2 Metre Archer Reid has some WAFL under his belt

So we can stop talking about Sheed, Gaff and Waterman after it took him 7 yrs to grab a game by the Nuts. All of these guys will be in WAFL by then, maybe even Darling too.

We won't finish last neither with these in's and team going from strength to strength.

1st Game Post bye shall be interesting.

Can hardly have expected Waterman to dominate as a big key forward given he's played everywhere for the past 7 years and has been behind JK, Darling and Allen in the pecking order.

He won't play like that all the time obviously but it's not like he's been struggling at FF for 7 years, he's hardly played there. The other positions he's been in aren't the type to grab a game by the nuts.

As long as sheed is kept in twos. He needs to become hungry.

Reid is not happy we lost last 5 derbies. Expect the boys to throw everything at it and as we now know, once Reid crosses that white line, he has Jordan like killer instinct.

He will win The Woke medal.

Rotham to Treacy on paper is a good match up especially if treacy pushes up the ground but in reality rotham struggles on blokes his size or taller.

Tb to Amiss could be a good match up. Amiss is young star and could pose a threat for Barrass if the game opens for freo but as also could easily see TB holding down Amiss

I think Gov would be a good match up on Jackson but also Don’t think he will be as of an intercepting marking threat with Jackson’s aerial prowess. That said Gov always back his own game where if it succeeds or fails. Will be good to watch

Notes from todays training session by Glen Quartermain who isn’t a noted training observer

But anyway

Flynn increasing his workload which you’d expect from someone the club is saying is 4-5 weeks away from returning

Ginbey had his thigh heavily strapped due to the cork he received against Richmond and was on light duties. On SEN, Ginbey said he was taking it easy to let the cork flush out and was confident of playing on Saturday

Curiously given the injury report, Jamieson said to be moving freely and looked untroubled

Ryan was moving well and appears to have pulled up well after his first game back

I'm guessing it'll either be Gaff or Sheed in for Edwards and maybe Ginbey a late out if he doesn't get up in time.

Let Liam Ryan cook in the WAFL off half back for one more week

For what it’s worth in Simmo’s segment with Rhino the other night he was asked if Ryan to HB was something they would persist with at AFL level and the vibe I got from Simmo’s answer was no.

He framed it as more of a nice option to have if they ever needed to switch things up in future.

So if he comes in then he will be coming in as a forward in his usual role imo

Yep. Sheed said the same with Schoey. I would love to see Ryan and Maric trialled through there in the first half of the season. After watching Dewar more closely the last few weeks I actually think him and Burgiel could well end up there in the best back 6 by the end of the year, with Hough and Duggo rounding out the medium/small defenders.

imo ryan to half back flank is a loss. It really means we aren’t getting any drive from defence and our forwards are also starving. Only time I actually don’t mind it is if we need to get Ryan into the game. Personally don’t mind seeing ryan push higher up the ground and perhaps be as a wing rotation

It takes a special person to respond to a 6-goal, 13-mark game by Waterman by talking about when we might expect him to be dropped to the WAFL.
Waterman has always been too good for the WAFL, he's now shown due to injury as opposed to taking the third best tall behind allen or darling, that he has some craft, especially on a lesser KPD.
He can be the high chf if we get people back, tank was elite.
But apart from all of that, his team mates just saw him tear a game apart. He missed 2 and had an OOTF i think.
When we get harley or yeo or tk streaming out of centre, or a good forward thrust off the back flank... it's not just, where is oscar.
It's also is snake getting a mismatch because of hard running.
Belief from team mates that murky waters can be the JD to allens JK and look for him.
At least i hope so.

Changes this week could be as simple as who replaces Luke Edwards and there’s six viable options albeit some people won’t be happy about a couple of those options

• Gaff - been in the doghouse since being dropped after R1. Been putting up solid numbers in the WAFL and has been an exemplary teammate in the young side. Think we’re better with younger options though
• Sheed - has played 2 games coming back from a long layoff. Think he’ll eventually come into the side but could do with another week in the WAFL at least as he regains touch and match fitness
• Trew - seems to have been the most consistent WAFL performer amongst the young group and arguably deserves a crack. Main problem is he’s an inside mid and Edwards role was more outside. If we bring him in it would be better if we can play him to his strengths
• Hall - still finding touch after missing a few weeks. He’s close but WAFL form not quite good enough to get a promotion yet
• Ryan - we need him in the side asap but only when he’s properly fit. Looked good from the WAFL highlights but only played about 60% game time. Another week in the WAFL to build his fitness won’t hurt

My choice is Harvey Johnston

Been solid in the WAFL. Reports are that he’s been strong defensively and he’s been playing the same wing role that Edwards has been playing

Play him as the sub the same way we did with Rawlinson to give him a taste

Sneaky feeling Ryan might come in, no rational explanation...except he can be a gamechanger, needed against Freo, not 100% game fit, but managed time in a home game, no travel. Our other small forward hasn't been sighted much in previous games.
Gaff+Sheed aren't game changers.

Is Long in danger of being dropped?

If Ryan comes in it’s probably a choice between him or Brockman

Petruccelle has done enough to be kept ahead of those two, as has Cripps

It’s the decision that becomes necessary with decent player availability
