Still so pissed off by that gutless capitulation, that I can't even get enthused about this game or the rest of the season, for that matter.
I haven't been as down from a loss since the 2010 replay.

The lack of heart and will shows the players are pampered prima donna's who don't know the first thing about what it takes to be a finals team let alone a flag winner.
I won't do it, because well I'm a fool, but it crossed my mind to ask for a refund for this years membership.
Heartily sick of this football clubs loser attitude.

That’s the worst thing, they didn’t look like they were going to fight for it for any stage. I’m amazed they only lost by a goal.

Yes 2 debutants, and Quaynor who has played a game or 2 last year, however they all have been in the system a year longer and had a year of vfl under their belt. Happy to give them a go but let’s not crucify kids that are late picks in the draft. It will take a bit for them to find their feet. They probably aren’t going to be our saviors like people on here think.
Happy to give it a shot!

You make valid points, I just really want to see the guys who are supposed to be leaders be shown that effort was not acceptable, and both Bytel and Byrnes seem to the guys performing in the scratch matches (correct me if I’m wrong) so they are first that comes to mind for replacing underperformers.

Reading the comments on these pages am I right in saying that some players are no longer in contention for games this year. Do we delist these guys or does everyone get a chance ? Example: Hind. Dropped for poor form against Collingwood and now not on the radar . Even Parker who doesn't seem to be a favorite anymore. Do we cut our losses ? think they are out of contract at the end of 2020.
I’d prefer to persist with the likes of Parker and Hind (despite their age) for another year, than Kent and Lonie who haven’t been able to develop consistency despite being on AFL lists for 5+ years.

Long was drafted as a backman and looks much better there than forward

Clark played a huge amount of his footy as a back flanker and is starting to spend more time in the midfield

Ross is the only one that wasn't a defender but If we don't rotate players like Ross in other positions it means we can't play Clark etc on the the ball.

We can always throw him forward but we already have a few midfielders going forward and he's never been a goal kicker.
Agree that Long looks better as a defender but he did spend his first 3 years with us as a forward so we've clearly changed tact on him.

Clark has to become a midfielder, if we used picks 7 & 8 on two more medium back flankers when we already had 20 on the list and were desperately needing mids then we should straight up fold.

Would prefer to play a Roberton or Webster and give Clark more midfiled time than have Seb popping up little floaters from deep inside defensive 50.

Have to wonder why we traded for Austin, and took Clavarino over Constable and Worpel with the list profile we've had.

Yep, we tried to turn Long into a small forward but to it didn't work. It doesn't change the fact that he was drafted as someone who played most of his footy in defence and It was clearly the right decision to put him back to where he looks more natural.

I agree Clark needs to become a full time mid, but I'm not sure he's ready for it yet. Seems to be spending more time in there as the year goes on so I'm happy with the way we are choosing to play him. Hopefully he continues to spend more and more time in there as the year goes on.

The issue isn't that Ross has to go back to take Clark's spot, we already have enough defenders to cover him. The issue is Ross needs to go somewhere when he's not in the midfield and as I said, we already have mids rotating forward that are better suited them him.

No one had an issue with our back line a week ago. In fact they were getting huge wraps in the media. Most of our scores were coming from turn overs in the back half so it was clearly working.

Robbo or Webster will get there turn this week with Long out and maybe more changes, but all of those guys deserved their selection for the Freo game.

There will be changes this week , Ratts was not a happy man at all after the game , could be up to 4 changes so my source tells me , im not sure we have 4 blokes that deserve a game
Well they can join the other 22 that don’t deserve a game.

Giving zero credit to the opposition.

Freo played incredibly well after 1/4 time.

Lobb and Taberner destroyed our usually dominant talls, Ryan dominated and their midfield tore us up.

They played as well as any team has all year- credit to them.

The reaction to our own performance was very different when we lost badly to the pies.
Freo played every bit as well as the pies did- yet apparently we shat the bed against freo but not collingwood.

Newsflash- we aren't a top 4 team... if a team plays top 4 football for 3 quarters at any stage this year... we're probably gonna lose.

Onto this week- I hope they cement battle at half forward for the rest of the year. (Marsh out this week- battle in his spot).

He's too inexperienced to be subjected to this swingman nonsense, it's hurting his development and risks turning him into a master of none.

Or worse yet- a gun CHF at collingwood.

I totally disagree they were good. They were poor but we just didn’t run, spread or try. They were playing with zero opposition and still only tripped over the line. It was like getting beat up by a grade 6 kid. It was a humiliating capitulation with very little effort save for the first quarter and the last 5 minutes. Totally unacceptable to just stop playing. We bombed to no one, didn’t chase, didn’t shut down space.... anything. Collingwood totally outclassed is. We looked like we tried but fell short. This time we just lay down and gave up.

Yes giving zero credit, because we were six goals up.
I couldn't care less about the opposition, it is the pathetic, putiful, gutless effort after quarter time from the team I support.

That is my concern, you write all about credit to a team if you like, got nothing to do with what I am writing about.
Its about constant and ongoing failure, its about lack of maturity, its about lack of effort, not in one game but over decades.

Comments in BF are irrelevant. Just a bunch of saints tragics talking out their bums.

For me, what I see is a young highly skilled team who after dominating, started playing at a lazy lower level. This is where leadership from senior players should have stepped up and reminded them to go for the kill and keep playing like the season depends on it.
However, what we got were the supposed leaders of the club being the worst offenders.
Time for some of them to be dropped and a Byrnes or Bytel to get a run and be told the position is theirs if they want it enough.

Look at our list at the time. We overpaid for Austin. Maybe we got sucked in by the connection to Dempster? At the end of 2017 we had -

Established defenders:
Jake Carlisle
Nathan Brown

Unproven kids:
Hugh Goddard
Nick Coughlan
Darragh Joyce

So true Joff , the older ones on here like myself have put up with the same things over and over , each time someone new comes to the club its like God has come to save us , Im just about over getting upset as sadly iv come to accept that we are always going to be the same old saints ,

Ross better be one, a complete waste of space.
Long gone.
I would drop Marsh and Patton.

You would think Ross is gone , same with Marsh , i think Geary needs to go before Patton but that wont happen , Maybe Hill needs a kick in the ass too ?

How exactly did decades of performances by long retired stkilda footballers help michael walters win 12 contested possessions the other day?

You seem to be bringing a lot of preconceptions with you in your assessment of how both teams performed on the weekend.

It looks like Clark played back flank previously to his draft year. Was supposedly an excellent inside midfielder in his draft year and looked very good there when played in the vfl. So hoping he can get more time in there. Was good in the Centre in the last qtr as well.
Also not a big fan of Ross rotating to half back, but asides from Wing I don't know if resting him forward would be any better
