Twice in five days flying in and out. That’s rough.

They are staying in adelaide between games aren't they?

Regardless, every team will have situations to sook over at times this year.

I think it's a good thing for us to cop some unfavourable turnarounds and preparations this year.
We've been far too easily unsettled outside of playing at our docklands bubble over the years.

Being thrown around all over the shop in 2020 could be just the medicine we need for success everywhere in years to come.

I don't understand why everyone is so quick to drop Lonie. He plays as our second small forward. He provides good link up and ballance to the forward line. He also put his body on the line far more then many others even when we are getting smashed to bring the ball down. I just can't fathom How Lonie can be dropped ahead of others.

He's a forward that isn't kicking goals.
Pretty simple equation.

Same heat would be applied to a defender whose opponents were regularly kicking goals.

Nor will the giants drop cogs.
What's your point?
Fairly obvious I’d have thought.
You become what you’re willing to accept.
So, if we’re happy with our most senior leaders having two tackles between them, willing to accept their disgraceful ball use, fine with decision making akin to local reserves, then maybe that’s why we’re where we find ourselves.

There's not any better options for a small forward in our depth so he should keep his spot for now but I understand the frustration with Lonie. He's kicked four goals this year in six matches which is in line with his career record. He's had two goal assists, so it's not like he's setting up a bunch of goals. His defensive pressure has improved which is good but he's not a specialist at it, ala Puopolo.

He's basically a decent link up player in the forward half who doesn't win much footy or kick many goals. What also makes him frustrating is that he has shown glimpses of how good he could be. His finish to 2018 was fantastic. His games against the Hawks and Dogs last year also massive.

He doesn't need to star every week, but his tangible impact is pretty minimal at the moment.

No apparently they have to fly out then back in. At least for now but anything goes atm

His coaching was deplorable on saturday hes as bad as seb when it come to leadership.
How specifically was Ratten deplorable?
Fremantle upped the ante after 1/4 time and players failed to adjust
We got beaten in the uncontested part of the game and they had 6 more marks inside 50
Suggests to me that there was a lack of pressure on the Fremantle ball carriers and the ball was coming into our backline with heat.
Not much a coach can do in a game to arrest a slide when the players are down on effort and leadership.
Hope he makes a bit of statement this week at the selection table

Staying there is fine. I didn't know if they were allowed to stay in Adelaide. It would be a bit rough to travel there twice in a short space of time though.
But I agree with your sentiments - give them a good shake up and we'll find out what they're really made of.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be all that much resilience around these days - jeez, I sound old!

You must not have watched the game. This is squarely on the players, has nothing to do with coaching. It's mentality and work ethic.

Richo must have made a call to the box late in the game… was nice to see the old "throw Carlisle forward" trump card again.

We seemed incapable of overcoming their keepings off game after quarter time, not sure if that is all on the players… has to be some structure and instruction involved too IMO.

89 marks to 66 & only 33 tackles for the game suggests we couldn't get near them.

Instant reaction is go the “statement” changes this week but we bloody well must win this, so perhaps we stick fat and back in the “redemption” mentality. One change for Long and back the same lot to show what it meant to them.

Nah , we have gone down that path way too many times , we need a beheading to show we mean business , i want blood to run down the streets

Have we? I feel like our team has been a revolving door for the past few years with plenty of changes most weeks. I agree with SaintSteele. There's no reason the 22 (minus Long) from the weekend can't bounce back and win this game and I don't see how bringing in several of our depth players improves our chances.

Ratten can not do nothing when no one is winning the contested ball, anyway we lost and hopefully the team will show more effort against the Crows and I'm sure they will.

I remember after we lost to North people where saying we will be lucky to win any of the first 4 games , well we are now 3 and 3 , have beaten teams people thought we had no chance to beat and lost against teams we thought would we would win.

The coaching panel have brought in a new brilliant style of play and are playing one of the youngest squads in the AFL , so no doubt there will be teething problems especially when you put together a team which half of the squad have hardly played together.

I think the majority of players deserve another opportunity to redeem themselves, after all they are the ones who beat Richmond and Carlton the previous 2 weeks so it's not like they've produced 2 or 3 bad performances in a row and making too many changes could throw out the cohesion and system we're building.

That being said I'd still drop Ross for Byrnes or Hannebery if he's fit and Long needs to be replaced by Webster or Savage and if we have another poor performance against the Crows then a more severe wielding of the selection axe could be required.

So they bounce back this week with the same team and then dont turn up the next week again , are you just going to rinse and repeat or drop a big name to show it wont be tolerated ?

Yeah our forwards and backs are fine , it's the midfield
Long is reported so bring in Webster and I would drop Marsh or Lonie for Byrne.

I agree that the inconsistency we're showing is unacceptable but I just don't know if swinging the axe through the team is the answer. I'm not against a small number of changes but it has to still be in the interest of winning this game. Win this game and we're 4-3. As frustrating as the loss was on the weekend, we are a) not in a dire position yet and b) not alone in the comp for patchy form. That doesn't excuse it but it is a strange season and pretty much every team is going up and down like a yo yo.

Hopefully the sort the hot and cold football out , we will end up with a few injuries which will change the makeup of the 22.
They are also saying there could be a few 4 day breaks and some players just will not get up in that period of time.

You can't ignore performances like that and not make changes… the effort, which should be the absolute minimum requirement was pathetic.

We don't want another Newnes scenario, where a player is picked every week for 150 games straight despite putrid form at times, only to be delisted and given free to a good (or any) home.
