Wow the AFL actually released a statement, I wasn't expecting that

I like that they posted the htb rule “for clarity”

As Ratts has stated previously, it will be horses for courses as to when we would play 2 x rucks. Marshall does benefit playing as a solo Rickman as he is still very raw to the game of Aussie Rules. He's a see ball get ball type of player. Once he gets better at reading the game as a forward by learning leading patterns and working in tandem with the other forwards, he will be a much more rounded footballer.

However as I said due to the lack of training and whatnot, it's not going to miraculously happen for him right now. Having Ryder on and off the field is going to help him tremendously and we will see the reward down the track.. well im hoping so.

I don't necessarily disagree with your comments in general, but why do you think he's raw to the game of "Aussie Rules"?

I think he thrives having that direct opponent he needs to beat.

If he continues playing like this, it's going to pose an interesting question for opposition coaches on whether they tag our "tagger".

Yes i know you are Patrick &*^% Dangerfield, but Jack Steel is going to be close to you, and its your job to stop him getting the bloody ball .
:D

I hope that means arses were kicked behind the scenes.

Steele is a really unique player really. I can't think of any other midfielders in the comp who are so evenly balanced between their offensive and defensive game. There are great tacklers like Yeo but he doesn't shut down a player in the way Steele does. That's not to say that Steele is better, Yeo obviously has more runs on the board and is a gun. Then there are specialist taggers like De Boer but he doesn't have the offensive ability of Steele.

Cam Guthrie is probably the one that springs to mind in terms of an even balance - offence/defence. He's got some runs on the board but Steele is a better player.

He's on a terrific trajectory. If he can continue to improve his offensive game whilst maintaining the ability to do a shut down role on occassion, he'll be one of the most valuable mids going around. Doesn't need to get 20 CPs a game, but he showed what a beast he can be on the inside last night.
Definitely has some good attributes. Pretty neat kick and is strong in the air. Fairly reliable in front of goals. Got a very nice one yesterday.

When at Port, Ken Hinkley made him captain for a game after only playing 37games. So can see why he wants his team mates to follow his lead.

When we picked him up, that was something I noted - I thought it was courageous of Adelaide to pick Deodee as Captain last night, but he definitely stood up too - gonna be a player for them.

With Howard down one end, Membrey down the other, and Steele in the mids, we've got a good young cadre of leaders who could be joined by some of the others as they get their growing pains sortd out.

If they

If they are bad for both teams i'm happy. They actually get paid pretty well.
Well unlike some I think they try to do their best. Players get paid pretty well yet some have bad days. I get paid nothing to umpire but I still try to do my best. I think the payment doesn’t make you try harder. If it did hill would be our best player.

It goes to show how bad it was last night. I spoke to my Richmond mate and the first thing he mentioned was the umpiring. Port Adeliades board were all worried that the AFL would try to give St Kilda the free kicks that we missed out on next week as an even up. Talk back radio this morning were all over it. It was beyond the normal bad umpiring.

I’ve got to be honest and say if that move won us the game then I’d certainly rather that. It’s not like he can’t get the ball when he tags. He could have done a soft tag like he did last night.

My son got tagging roles and after a while you start to play like that's your brand, you're praised for your effort at stopping a gun. He stopped going for his own ball and waited to get lead everywhere. Eventually he fell out of love with footy. It's usually because you are fit and disciplined but it also kind of says you aren't good enough in your own right. He was a pretty promising player but he got the joy coached out of him. I think that's what was happening to Steele. You sometimes need to just go, play your game and let them chase you, we trust you.

Richo just wanted him to blanket everyone but didn't seem to have much faith in his game. The best taggers in the AFL are usually hard edged journey men that didn't make it on merit and are so desperate for a career that they can handle doing anything for the chance.

To put the Power at ease, there is no evidence to suggest that we will ever get a fair run or better from the umpires whilst playing in either Adelaide or Perth

I never talk trash about umpiring as it is a waste of time, but last night's game was the 1st time I wanted to turn off the TV . I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. Somethings gotta give

Steele has always been different then other taggers where he has generally got more of the ball when he has a job than when he just ran around on his own.

Under Richo he could never find the ball with out a role on someone who lead him to it. Last night I noticed him going for the ball with Crouch coming at him. What ever Ratts did to reprogram him is outstanding. It might just be that all the strong at the contest and pleasing effort just meshed with Ratts go out and enjoy your footy...and we have invented the perfect modern mid. Tall, strong, tough, disciplined, demanding of accounting for, clean disposal, good vision. There seriously aren't many flaws to him this year. He's worth about 70 Crouch disposals with his ball use.

I thought he'd hit his level as a sometimes great mostly good tagger. He's really clicked into gear. It also helps having dangerous mids along side him I guess, with Jones bursting away like an electric hammer, he gets the attention of the opposition mids. Guys like Steele and Gresh can get free. Same with Hill, he takes the best match up and leave Billings to get some freedom. That's the bonus of quality coming in.

Clarko's rule has made the whole competition ridiculous. I find myself getting angry when it's not even my team at the moment.
