Opinion Sack Hinkley 11 - Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest

Once the media stop reporting that’ll be that . So im saying if the membership dropped to 30-40k and getting 20k to games after the prelim loss to the games, Hinkley will not be coach today. Making finals with a healthy membership & pretty good crowd numbers, management won’t give a dam about boos. Only way Hinkley is going to, is if he walks.

Yeah I don't know about that. Membership is around 60,000. How's that going to suddenly drop to 30,000. And consistent crowds of 20,000, that puts us back into the basket case category. You can kiss goodbye to a member-elected board and possibly even independent survival.

It's not just cutting your nose off to spite your face, it's trying to saw off your own head.

The booing did what it needed to. It drew attention to Hinkley and magnifies every failure. And the media won't let it go now. The Saints game barely saved him.

Short of a miraculous premiership - maybe a grand final - I can't see him surviving this year. I'm not sure why he would want to continue under this sort of scrutiny anyway.

All he has to do is make the 8. Do you really think Koch will have the guts to sack a coach who made finals?

We haven't lost to Gold Coast for 13 years - if that winning streak ends on July 14 (which is odds on), the mood at the Richmond game won't exactly be pro-Hinkley, to put it mildly.

Makes the 8 and fails, yep I think he's gone.

Kenny gets booed therefore he is a good coach and shouldn't be moved on. No, I'm not a contrarian.

Sprained ankle? Ken would still declare you fit and select you without missing a game

Yeah it’s more the case of “leaving an injured player on the field because no other option” ;)

The lapse of concentration on my part happened just past the top of the first days trail so I still had the descent to go, well over two hours. Not much fun I can tell you, but that it was possible at all had me hoping I’d been lucky enough not to break anything, and do it was. Unlike Ken the tour leaders job was to ask if I really could keep going and I said yes…

Disappointing to have to exit such an amazing trip on day 1 of 7, had to find things to do that I could hobble over to so some good came of it all.

Anyway SACK HINKLEY.

I don't feel like I'm duty bound to boo. In fact it is starting to turn into groupthink, which makes me not want to be a part of it. I'm my own person and make my own decisions and will not follow a pack.

In pure frustration after getting spanked at home by Brisbane i get the booing. It's not what i would normally condone but i can see why it happened, it was spontaneous similar to when the umpires get booed off after they've reamed us.

But i don't like where this is heading now, with it no longer being spontaneous and supporters on here talking as if it's already a done deal that they are going to boo no matter what. Honestly, if we play a great game and have a good win and there is still booing taking place, that is just going to come across a bit pathetic. Essentially, feeding the media narrative that we are just a bunch of blood thirsty imbeciles.

I also don't think it is as helpful as what you think it is. Just like your Sack Hinkley sign, it achieved nothing, he is still here 6 years later.

I also think barring some miracle where we completely turn this season around that he is gone at the end of the year so i don't see feel the same sense of urgency that he needs to be marched out of Alberton right at this minute.

So let’s waste another year then. Stuff the supporters who pay there hard-earn on the club.

No he’s gotta to go, we are just wasting time at this point with keeping him and it’s like the fixture get any better from here where we can go on a run and even then we all know how it will all play out in September.

It’s had an affect, but nothing compared to an empty stadium, not even close.

An empty stadium isn't realistic. Low crowds can blamed on anything - "oh the Port supporters are fickle, bring back the tarps" etc. etc.

Thirty thousand people booing a single man when he comes on the screen sends a real message and the true nature of where that anger is directed can't be denied.

i think ill literally puke the day this conman passes choco games coached record.
Surely Choco will go hard at Ken some time between now and him failing in finals to help ensure it doesn't happen.

I love Choco but I can't see him missing this opportunity.

You’re right, how dare some supporters ‘Boo’ a coach after 251 games of perpetual failure, we should be giving the man a standing ovation instead. Fair dinkum mate, get some viagra into you before it’s too late.

It happened spontaneously after the Brisbane game and his future has been the talk of the media for a week.

When one guy put a sticker up, his future was the talk of the media for a week.

Tredrea called his position untenable in a podcast and his future was the talk of the media for several weeks.

If we actually put some sustained pressure on his job instead of doing stuff here and there, it 100% puts pressure on the club to sack him. If you're too good to boo, fine. Plenty of people will and they'll do it because they're sick to death of the club at the moment. Booing is just their only means of expressing it and they've seen the media storm it caused.

It's silly to assume he'll be sacked this year after he wasn't sacked after 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 or 2023. We win a few games and make the 8 and suddenly he's given the final year of his contract. We've seen it all before at this point.

And if you think it's different this year, you're right, but it's only different because the supporters are outwardly showing dissent, voted Tredrea in etc. It's not because we're on the cusp of the 8 after finishing near the top last year. We've actually done that several times in the past. What's different is the supporters are fed up, not attending and showing dissent when they do attend. If we take the pressure off for a second, Koch won't make a decision, he'll just let Hinkley have his contracted 2025 season.

Continuing to show dissent is important. You don't have to boo but if you want to support a good club again at some point in your life, do something and stop Helen Lovejoying supporters who are reacting reasonably to what the club is putting them through.

This is why Twitter needs a laugh button.

Seriously though, we are dealing with a whole different level of delusion when someone thinks it's the supporters who've made the club look weak.

And not the gutless administration who've lacked the courage to make a hard but necessary decision to move on a mediocre coach, instead letting him linger for 12 years, turning this situation into a powder keg and leaving the fans feeling they have no choice but to voice their opinion on game day as a last resort.

I thought about that the other day and wondered, how much money does one person need?

He's going to get paid out for this year, he must have banked an awful lot of money over the past 10 years and he will probably get some sort of payout on the last season of his contract.

The last couple of weeks he has looked like he's been run through a woodchipper. How badly do you want to beat up your mental health?

There's always a rationalisation for why Ken fails, isn't there?

Last year, Caro suggested that Port had "dodged a bullet" in missing out on Brodie Grundy, claiming that the ruckman's laziness and lack of ambition was why he went to Sydney and not Port.

In truth, Grundy was probably struggling not to laugh as he heard the pitch of Port's brain-trust Kenny, Rozzee and Butters.
