I've heard promising things about the direction Carr intends to take us in. There are no guarantees but put it this way, if we fail under Carr we will at least fail trying to be Port Adelaide rather than whatever it is we've become under Hinkley.

How his speaking skills have convinced an entire club and young men to buy into him is unbelievable really.

'We've worked really, really hard'
'We've been really, really clear'

He argued that he's a small cog in a machine of a coaching administration.

By that logic why ever sack the senior coach then?

Blame the players, injuries, the direction the wind is blowing and you can save your ass apparently.

Thursday night's press conference showed that he is really the pits of a person. Once he's sacked I expect him to whinge and have a sooky swipe at those that worshipped him like a god for a decade.

I have long though West Coast wants Hinkley, but if they lose next week in a bad way I find it hard to believe anyone would want to take Hinkley off Port's hands.

If we presume Port lose to Hawthorn next Friday night, this is how I expect things to pan out in its aftermath:

The Footy Committee and Koch will schedule an emergency Teams meeting for Monday night.

CD will tell Hinkley some time over the weekend (my best guess is Saturday) the power brokers have lost confidence in the senior coach, and he can select one of two options. Option 1 is to negotiate a payout with the Club and formally resign. Option 2 is to stand firm at the Alamo and face the humiliation of being sacked. There will be no option 3 of letting Ken convince anyone to give him a further chance.

I think Ken will take option 1, though the payout will not be much changed from if he were sacked. This decision would then be ratified by the Footy Committee on the Monday night followed by the Board on Tuesday with an announcement sometime Tuesday afternoon.

Of course, this process could get accelerated. Given the stakes of the game on friday night, I would expect the majority if not the entire Board of Directors to.be present at Adelaide Oval. And hence, if there is a bad loss, they could move things up earlier in the weekend to have in person meetings instead as opposed to doing it on Teams.

The one thing I won't be doing is breaking any news on here about his departure until he has been given the news from the horse's mouth. After that, it's fair game.
What if we beat Hawthorn and find ourselves in another Preliminary final. Making a GF and losing + Ken staying, what a nightmare scenario.
This is still a slight possibility, you know what happens after booing, Stickerman and a good smashing, they suddenly start to play.

To add to that Kim also goes on to point out tactical flaws in Kens match ups ie Aliir to Cameron!

It’s amazing the groupthink this guy has managed to create around himself

When Kim Dillon, of all people, is successfully arguing against your tactics, you should really give up the game.

Listening to my restored WW2 wireless in the grudge this morning & apparently Port supporters are not allowed to sing a song before the game unless they are willing to keep the same underachieving coach for a thousand years.. someone needs to inform Liverpool FC of this requirement asap.

I was so fixated on trying to spot Hinkley after the siren that I didn't notice which way the players left the ground.

Which way did they go?

Where do the pressers take place?

Just wanting to know if there was a fair reason for Hinkley to zip down the bunker before the siren.

Look honestly it’s as simple as the Crow ambassador corps realise it’s not the list and if we had someone who knew what was going on we might deliver on its potential

As for the Cornes aspect of the Hinkley cheerleaders self interest pure and simple

Well, for a start, Josh:
  • can string a coherent sentence together
  • has played in a winning grand final
  • highest coaching success in a 2nd tier comp, well above the level of that Bell Park win
  • doesn't have a fetish for skinny dogs running in circles
  • appears to want to learn and improve himself
  • isn't an overweight slob
  • doesn't disguise his narcissistic tendencies by using Father Figure techniques
  • doesn't seem to be the type to blame others for his own failings
so if it comes to it, I'll take it

I haven't sung that in years anyway and if that's the price, cool

There won't be a single voice in AFL-land who thinks we can win on Friday because we aren't coached well enough.

Then, in their post mortems, precisely the same voices will criticise those against Hinkley, saying how ungrateful and ignorant they are and how they caused our flame-out.

Rinse and repeat, until someone upstairs has the cojones to do something about it.

If anything gives me a glimmer of hope, it was when Carr made the comment (paraphrasing) “fans are spending their hard earned, they have a right to be upset”.

The only club official who made any vaguely conciliatory remarks with the fan base, who they have otherwise essentially ignored, derided by omission.

A club set against its fans can’t succeed. If Carr recognises the fans as a key stakeholder in the club, that should be brought along on the journey, that’s a good start.

Are they pissed with all the coaches or just Hinkley?
I'm just trying to get my head around Carr supposedly being next in line when he's also in the coaches box.

I can't say with any great certainty either way. What I know is that they're sick of underperforming consistently in big games (finals). And I also think they're sick of giving Ken everything he wants year on year only to see him fück it up in those big games.

I really don't think we can put all the assistant coaches to the fire - because Ken has gone through so many assistants in the last 8 or so years, and the problems that existed as far back 8 years ago still remain the same today.

Big weekend for you if we lose.

Has been close to a "big weekend" for me a few times this season.

Chewy, can you elaborate on what people at the club are very angry about? Those are the folks who backed this guy, with his extensive record of underachievement, and then he proceeded to act as he’s always acted, done what he’s always done.

Next one, why do you think Dom has turned all of a sudden, after backing him for so long? Is it genuine interest in making Port a better club, or just a massive coincidence that his best mate is the person who stands to gain the most from axing Ken?

They've backed him for various reasons, and some of them I've understood. But yeah, they're just over the under-forming in big games.

As for Dom, he would still defend Ken in public, I have no doubt about that, and that would be the right thing to do given Dom's role on the Footy Committee and whilst Ken remains employed as the senior coach. Not exactly sure when Dom started to have his eyes open, but I know after the Showdown loss this year he looked like he had seen a ghost afterwards - was in complete shock and kept telling people how "bad" this was.

Agreed. I have no idea how Carr will go, but I know that it gives the Club an opportunity to succeed simply because he's not Ken Hinkley. Hinkley is a career loser who will never win anything.

Won't change anything unless they make a grand final. I really don't see that happening - after this past game they're absolutely shot.

Just so I don't get this wrong, you believe that if we make a GF without winning it, Ken will still be here?

I find it hard to believe they would sack him if he is able to get the team to a grand final.

My personal ideal coaching setup after Ken is gone:

  • Josh Carr as the senior coach (Yes I know his midfield system has been beaten, but actually acknowledging how the fans feel about the club is something we need from a coach right now)
  • Brett Montgomery to RETURN and become the senior assistant (Which we haven't had since Michael Voss left)
  • Jarred Schofield to RETURN and reprise his roll as the midfield assistant
  • As much as i hate to say it Goldsack and Chadbro get 1 more year in their respective roles. While we've failed in big games I actually think their systems have been ok and we were top 3 attack last year and top 3 defense this year.
  • Get Paddy Ryder back as a rucks development to replace Matthew Lobbe.
  • F--k off Hartlett & Sutcliffe alltogether

Chewy in a Post Hinkley, Carr driven world will he get other assistants ?

I understand the Schofield ship has sailed but would Carr get at least a couple new assistants ?

At this point, this is like worrying that a full line-up Beatles reunion wouldn’t live up to expectations.
I am hoping He's done but we never expected thrashing Sydney, Beating Freo away, the Dogs, Carlton the crows, so until/when we are knocked out I will rest easy. Look what happens when we put pressure on the team when they get smashed and a few stickers go up, they suddenly start to football.

So, essentially the same reasons
as the fans, who they have allowed to get relentlessly mocked and derided by the media set. Not sure if I’m comforted or enraged by this.
