THis is not the time to go with this narrative. Hinkley is here to stay for now, like it or loathe it. There is a prelim to win, and supporters supporting would be awesome right now. Leave your gripes for after the next loss.

I am just rustled that any success Port has now is attributed to Hinkley. I want the wins and gf appearance but resent that Ken is lauded for it while his past shiteness is memory-holed.
It's not only this, it's the way he plays up to it. When have you ever heard Hinkley, after a win, make a point of highlighting his support staff/assistant coaches? He doesn't. It's all him. Even Mark Williams, as crazy as he was, ALWAYS made a point of singling out all of his assistant coaches for high praise in post win press conferences as the club was marching towards a premiership. Not this guy.

And yet, when there is a humiliating defeat, he is just the figurehead.

Sorry for my late attendance. May I wholeheartedly apologise for my clubs pitiful performance enabling the orc like man child to retain his job for the foreseeable future. Words cannot express my disappointment best of luck for expediting this worthy cause.
He's still our coach because your last shot at goal went a few cms to the left, ****ing crazy hey, that his job has been saved by a poster.

I'm getting to the stage where I wouldn't be surprised if they give him another 1 year extension because he couldn't possibly coach out the final year of his contract, the pressure wouldn't be fair.

Why is the focus always on poor Ken? What about the club as a whole, and what about the longsuffering fans, who have had to endure 2 decades of mediocrity?

Let him keep coaching, we are so well respected…..

Palmer bet want port to win. They know how motivating disrespectful social media messages are.

The problem with Hinkley staying and being successful is that it likely means the club is unlikely to change its views towards fans. The continued attacks and gaslighting will continue and any hope for reconciliation is just gone forever
If Hinkley becomes successful you’ll need to leave Adelaide fast.
He’ll be hailed as the messiah, you won’t be able to turn on the tv without seeing him.
It would be so Adelaide to do this.

Just something to remind everyone about Robbo's report on Monday in the Herald Sun: he clarified his article on 360 that night saying that you can "take it to the bank" that Hinkley would be at Port in 2025, only to follow it up by acknowledging the last time he told the public to "take it to the bank" his report turned out to be incorrect.

And his comments to Jake Niall at The Age left plenty of wiggle room depending on how Friday night goes.

Horrible timing, yes, but about as definitive as Houston saying he's not going anywhere.

Also worth noting neither Caro or Tom Morris have had anything to say about these reports - and they're as dialled in as anyone in footy about the Hinkley situation.

We will have a much clearer picture of the landscape at around 10pm Friday night.

Interesting that when a coach or his enablers are in the media ‘he’s coaching next year’ - it’s a given and we’d look like w***ers to sack him.

On the other hand when Houston says I’m staying……
What we need is the same 8 clubs to make the top 8 for 8-10 years in a row and they all keep their coach for that time.
And the bottom half all change their coach on a merry go round every 2 years.

My gut feel is he stays but the Carr handover at the end of 2025 is formalized.

However, there are two other scenarios:
1) We get thrashed by Sydney i think he goes.
2) I still haven't ruled out that he might decide to walk away if we win the flag, as it would be a great way for him to go out and find longer term security elsewhere, which could be just a senior assistant role. Clearly the pressure of being a senior coach has got to him this year.

His job was saved last year when Florent's kick did not make the distance.

That campaigner would have been sacked if we lost that game.

So it turns out the Jonas and cassisi suggestions were a joke but were you actually being serious about Schofield as CD’s replacement?

Now you are talking about recruiting players, so I’m completely lost again.

Without rehashing previously stated conversations, Schofield did well at Subiaco taking over the footy department from the Junior Colts to the Ones. Obviously GM of Footy Operations needs to manage a bit more than Standards, Training and Game plan, but a keen eye to detail and having a strong background in Coaching would hold him in good stead to ensure our Core Business - On field success, is supported by someone who has found success in the area as a player and a Coach.

We can surround him with brilliant people to pick up for his short comings. Leaders lead, Winners win.

You said let’s not talk about ‘X’ as we have a Prelim we should be talking about, I was stating it’s fine to have one eye on the now, but healthy to have one eye on the future. Then used the Recruitment team as an example of the club preparing in advance and not just putting out fires as they arise, as your ‘one week at a time’ would cause.

As others have pointed out, this is a forum for discussion, this is a Thread titled Sack Hinkley, we are discussing what one may deem relevant to the thread. Not the place to discuss Sydney this week?

Looking at the latest head-to-head odds, Bet365 currently has Sydney at $1.33 and Port Adelaide at $3.35.

Hinkley will be a genius if we win, although we gave them a 112 point thrashing a few weeks ago.

This is what most of the country think about Hinkley's ability to stand up in a prelim.

I want to win this, I don't want a small loss, if we lose i want big lose and just maybe we can pry this cockroach from our club. It was never personal with Ken but now after seeing how selfish he is I genuinely don't like him as much to say he is what I would call a narcissist.

What's the over/under line for a Hinkley sacking.

Has to be around the 10 goal mark surely?

Port Adelaide can't and won't tolerate that and stand for that.

IMG_1197.jpeg

This happened at the end of a 5-year span that began as flag favourites and culminated with just 1 losing Elimination Final to show for it.

Not only did he survive, but we were berated by the media as delusional morons for wanting his head to roll.

He could leave a steamer in Koch’s centre console after losing by triple figures and he’s 50/50 to cop an extension, while Gerard Whateley and Kane Cornes would eviscerate us for not grabbing a spoon and tucking in.

I wonder whether with CD probably leaving and Ken’s behaviour, has he decided he might be walking regardless of what happens?

I mean Koch can say what he wants if he knows that’s what is on the cards.

Maybe Ken has just decided he’s done?

Left field thought.
Is there anyone amongst us who would like to help Ken pack his bags? :)

Of the 4 prelim final coaches, all are in the top 5 longest term coaches.

Bet behind the scenes Koch and co are all bathing in their stability.....

I don't think it's a specific margin per se where things topple over. But rather it will depend on the eye test. They need to be competitive and giving everything.

Earlier in the year they lost to GWS by under 4 goals but looked lifeless and played a beyond boring game style that day. Despite being a relatively small loss, the footy committee and Board were really quite angry about the result, which is why tensions flared 6 days later when they got smashed against Brisbane.

A game like the GWS one will also put Ken's job into a precarious position.

Mate they were never going to sack Ken in 2019 considering their debt levels in conjunction with his contract not ending until end of 2020 (with a trigger for 21).

The times Ken has been in a position where they could sack him have been:
  • 2017 after the EF loss (in hindsight should have let him go then)
  • end of 2020 season had they missed finals
  • end of 2022 had they been able to get Clarkson (which was fortunate in hindsight because they don't get JHF if Clarkson joined Port)
  • end of 2023 if they missed finals
  • end of 2024 depending on a variety of results.

I am only speculating, but I would suggest a loss on Friday night most likely results in the announcement of a formal succession plan whereby Carr takes over as senior coach in 2026.
