IF they decide to stick with Kenny next year can the board and he just agree to announce at the beginning of the season that 2025 is his last - whether we make a GF a prelim or whatever please just make it clear so that we don't have an entire year of 'when will you make a decision' or 'are the players playing for Kenny' I'm not sure I can do another year where the main focus is Kenny. I also beleive it will work for the players, if they do love Kenny as much as they declare then go chips in knowing this is his last year.

I'm starting to come around to the idea that the players mention the daddy love stuff because they have nothing else. Ken isn't smart, kind, funny, or wise, he's a nothing bogan that these private school kids don't know how to handle.
It's not just us.

Not arguing. it was a prime opportunity to make a fresh start. We left it too late, resigned him and failed again, now we have an opportunity to cut ties and get a fresh start and we're going to put ourselves in the same situation next season.

So we finish 5-8 next season and sign him up again? I think pull the trigger now (Dump him of course).

Beyond a completely out of character sacking/resignation in the coming days, the only way this doom loop ends is if they announce a non-negotiable succession plan to Carr (which in itself is suboptimal).

Whatever the preconceived notions and hindsight harold perceptions of the list over the years regarding premiership credentials, with the talent Port has boasted over the past decade-plus, it should be practically impossible to win less than 12-13 games and scrape into the eight in a given season. At worst.

And, on the rare occasions we have missed, it has taken a manner of failure and self-inflicted stupidity that has been spectacularly bad:

• 2015: beat Hawthorn twice, but lose to 18th/17th/the post-Walsh Crows. 12 wins.

• 2016: lose Ryder and Monfries to WADA in the preseason, while implementing a gigapress gameplan that certain players admit they’re still not sure of in-season. three beltings in the first five weeks gives way to a string of narrow losses and 12 months wasted. 10 wins.

• 2018: 11-4 to 12-10. “Ken was a superhero!”

• 2019: Ben Brown kicks 10 as North wins by 14 goals despite being $3+ underdogs (foreshadowing!). 11 wins.

• 2022: ‘I wouldn’t change a thing. But we’re still here and coming for the premiership!… oh, never mind’. 10 wins.

Ergo, Koch and whoever else at the club agreeing to such low-bar performance triggers in Hinkley’s contracts is treasonous.

A sentient lamington has a 50/50 shot of guiding Port 2013-2025 to finals, but we’re still hostage to Kenny™ and his groomy greatness.

Pull the trigger, ffs.

Connor Rozee in the presser mentioned we are a young team.

It's not about the list being young, it's about Ken Hinkley who's had multiple playing list and still hasn't been able to get past a PF in his entire tenure. The experiment needs to end.

I don't want Carr as coach. he's a part of this.

Cracking post. "Sentient lamington." Gold.

I admire the people like you who can still maintain the rage. At this point I'm just numb.
Yep - I used to look forward to round 1 with huge anticipation. Next March I'll be like, "Oh great - here we go again. Same crap, different year."

Should announce it now and let Kenny decide if he wants to stay on. If he goes, then great, we have a preseason to start fresh with a new voice.

If they look and Kens finals record and decide that, then that's a player I'm OK with losing.
Agree, the last thing we need is more players that put Kenny Hinkley before the club. I don't understand any professional AFL player that would view being coached by Daddy Donuts as more important than having a shot at a flag.

I understand that many Port fans want to see the back of Ken but what level of player exodus would you be willing to accept?
Putting his failings aside for a moment he is obviously adored by the players.

As an example would it be worth being Ken free if you lost Butters and JHF?

Won't be an issue because he's nowhere near as loved as what the media make it out to be. JHF and Butters are going nowhere.

At the end of the day the players will rally around a new coach irrespective of their feelings for Ken (positive or negative).

Might also be the case where they miss out on a player because they were invested in Ken.

Daddy love in players are the last thing we need to be adding.

Where do you think JHF is going if Hinkley is gone?

Do you believe that JHF only came to the PAFC so he could be coached by Hinkley?

I doubt there'll be any player exodus despite what the CEO thinks.

You are very possibly correct.
But there is a chance the club know different.

If it was going to cause a Richmond like player loss then keeping him makes more sense imo

JHF and Rozee aren't going anywhere, SA born and bred. Butters and Bergman may go as the go home factor may come into play. Any other flaky players are welcome to leave anytime, they won't win you premierships.

It's time for the leadership of the Port Adelaide Football Club to do their job!

If you know Ken will never win a flag, it shouldn't matter what players leave upon Ken's departure because they weren't going to win anything with Ken at the helm anyway.

Your theory is a redundant one though. No one is leaving this off season in the event of Ken's departure.

Not having a direct crack at you, but the “nobody wanted to come/nobody wanted to stay” mythology around Ken that has endured for the better part of 12 years is weird.

Even sections of our own fanbase parrot it.

Every coach has his staunch allies within a dressing room, but only very rarely is there a mooted ‘exodus’ of any kind in the event he’s ruthlessly sacked.

How many of ‘Mick’s boys’ followed him to Carlton.

Dale Thomas and his polystyrene ankle? The fumes of Alex Fasolo?

We’ll be fine.

That's a silly hypothetical, we wouldn't lose a single player that we wanted to keep. The players don't like Hinkley as much as the media would have us believe.

If Ken moved on and some of our best players decided to move on with him I'd be fine with that.....no individual is bigger than the club, we have contracts in place to leverage replacements for them.

We want players playing here because we are a ruthless, professional environment that breeds success, not because their best mate is coach.
