Josh Carr should have gone West.
He had a chance to coach Richmond year before as well I know they are rebuilding but how often does an opportunity come to coach 1 of the big 4 melb. Clubs.
he has definately been promised the port job as I see it which is why I'm convinced 2025 will be kens last year regardless of results.

The problem is because of our record of finishing top 4 in the minor round the past five years, people have short memories and think why would you sack a coach who always gets you around the mark to challenge.
Plus Koch has, verbally, set the pass mark as making the 8 so the only way out next year is we either not make the eight, Hinkley retires, Koch is deposed, crowds diminish or some sustained booing every match.
Probably none of those things will happen so I’m relying on the recent information provided that there’s stuff happening behind the scenes as we speak…

I guess it depends as David Koch says "how you look at the data" On face value they see a Prelim as one win away from making a GF. While technically true I think there is a bit more to it and others have gone into great detail over the Hinkley era on our overall record against the good teams.

I look at the reality that you have to win a minimum of three finals in a season to win a Premiership. By this measure are we truly around the mark? We have a total of three final wins in a decade and lost five of our last six finals by an average of nine goals.

How smoked is this club? honestly

I can't think of a more stale presence in Australian sport.
Its just covered in a thick soupy fog of piss vapor. I can't even recognise it. It's an embarassing insular westboro cult.

Remember seeing a comment the other week on another clubs board

Pretty much saying, Port fans over there are stuck, never able to leave the bile of a game day thread, and it's spread out over the span of every day for 10 years.

He wanted to be in SA for personal reasons, so I understand him staying but in saying that, it doesn't mean he's the best candidate for head coach of Port Adelaide.

He's definitely going to have his work cut out for him as long as the people around him are the same dip ships we have now.

The way things have gone so quiet concerning Hinkley, I have given up hope that he leaves.

The last time I heard from Tredrea on 5aa, whilst he was camping, I didn't like what I was hearing, very positive in our season and where we finished, so I expect he will just blend in with the rest of the board members now.

It’s a realistic extension of the phenomenon you see on this board.

Beyond the harder core of so-called Hinkley Haters in this thread — who will remain staunch in the belief he’s incapable of delivering a flag regardless of how superficially strong his chances look in a given season, and are yet to be proven wrong once — we have a lot of people here who pull up stumps and abruptly end their agitation as soon as the team strings a few wins together.

Whether that’s because they don’t want to be seen as disloyal, or they don’t want to run afoul of the delulu gatekeepers who decree that if you haven’t been chugging Ken’s d¡ck the whole time you’re not allowed to enjoy any mythical flag, or they don’t want to look like irrational headcases to certain figures at the club and Ken apologists in the media, they cut and run the instant a modicum of consistent competence results in not getting embarrassed under lights at home in a given month.

Some even flip from accepting Ken should go and expressing long-repressed anger at his ongoing tenure, to decrying negativity and reheating ‘first world problems, there are starving kids in Africa’ false equivalences to the Moorabbin or Arden Street experience.

Ergo, the Sydney win effectively short circuited the campaign against Ken for 2024 and bought him another 12 months on top.

Tredrea is in an even worse position than the cohort of fans mentioned above, because he has real skin in the game.

Short of 12 years of obvious context, we did make a Prelim. We do have an excellent young midfield that should get even better.

And so on, beyond the risk to his personal credibility on matters football, and breaching the charter he signed by publicly condemning Ken in the face of all those superficially positive outcomes.

For the rest of us, the holding pattern continues.

23-25 more games will go in the books, we’ll lose Bergman or maybe even Butters for unders, and we might see George Hewett, Sean Lemmens and James Aish in Port colours in 2026, with Hinkley every chance to earn yet another deal at some stage because who ya gonna get? The best clubs are stable.

A nightmare without end.
