Well in their defence they've done a lot. They have pretty much moved every chess piece available to them outside of the senior coach. Their determination to stick with the status quo on that front is literally the reason they will never win anything as it currently stands.

Every good chess player knows that quite often a sacrifice is required to put yourself in a position to win.

Koch, Restas, Cardone, Osborn, Hinkley, Davies, Cripps and Parker have all been at the club for a decade or longer. That's insane for a successful club, let alone one in it's least successful era in 154 years.

There are members on the Board who are genuinely miffed as to why the Club hasn't been able to win a premiership under this regime.

How ****ing dumb are they? Do they actually watch our games? They probably spew out the 60% win loss herp derp.

We have no power to remove these ****ing idiots and they've been around for way longer than in reasonable for sports club board members.

And I mean, who could blame them?

Ken Hinkley is just so damn charismatic and handsome.

Every time he opens his mouth I’m hypnotised by the wisdom that springs forth from his golden tongue, and rue the fact that I could shadow him for a quarter-century and still wouldn’t know one-tenth the things this man does about football.
In your defence, one tenth of nothing is still nothing :).

They don't want us as supporters. Fair enough, I don't want them as a club anymore
Yep,they don't want anyone from the magpies days,we expect premierships, the new breed are ok with not being last, occasionally making finals ,that's ok,I stopped membership and going to games many years ago,I'll never go to another game, barely able to even Supporter the club anymore,it's really just more the fact I've been doing it so long it's just a habit that's hard to break.

But any club that has Ken as its senior coach doesn't seriously care about winning a premiership on their watch. Either that, or they're delusional and incompetent.
Also Ports:

Quick, trade Houston for a packet of chips, and make Cam Sutcliffe development coach of 2 groups.

The club really doesn't feel any outside pressure at all, going by Richardson's reply email to me.

They feel so insulated behind the walls of Alberton, along with the media protection racket, the silence from past players, coaches and previous custodians of the club.

I'm struggling to understand what this club stands for, nobody seems to care, the only person I have heard speak out about Ken besides Tredrea was Chocco Williams, when he said (I don't know how Ken does it, he has the Adelaide media eating out of his hand).

As far as Richo is concerned, the players are 100% behind Ken, membership is up and we should all be excited about 2025.

We will never get the real Port back again, I am now convinced of that.

I am being a little greedy though, they delivered those 3 premierships in the last 5 years, how ungrateful can I be.
They stand for earning enough money to live comfortably. Thats it.

We're so miffed that we haven't won a premiership after 12 years. What else can we do to give Ken the best opportunity to win one?
- The miffed board members

Imagine where the club would be if they were stoked with Ken.

It starts with a love for the club and the values that it holds, that is, doing the most to win and if you can't, you are moved on. You are willing to sacrifice for the good of team, even at your own personal detriment. Why? Because you love the club.

At the moment, we have a group of selfish people who refuse to sacrifice for the good of the club. It starts at the top with Koch and this filters all the way down to the boot studder.

Without the love of the club, they will keep their jobs and never do the right thing by the club and only for themselves. The rest is just BS and propaganda.

Your source runs hot and cold.

How can you know that members of the Board are miffed but not know why?

It’s pretty evident now that Donuts isn't under the pressure he ought to be from the club.

There’s every chance we grab another top 4 spot at the end of the H&A season and he’s renewed. I’d go so far as saying even finishing 5-6 might be enough.

They just seem to think that if we stick with Hinkley for long enough, it'll magically happen one day. Delusion of the highest order.

This "mass exodus" bullshit we keep hearing does my head in.
If a few players did leave because of this dumbshit coach, then we're definitely better off without them. Pack ya bags soft coccks!

Exactly. I think after the dust has settled on the Houston saga that people are coming around to the idea that losing a guy like that who isn't fully committed to the cause is no loss. There will always be young and talented players hungry for an opportunity - see Logan Evans this year. These are the players who will lead you to success, not players who are conditional depending on coach, salary, what their partner wants, etc. If you don't want to play for the club then all the best and off you go.

I’m almost hoping for a mass exodus at this point so we can get our hands on as many unHinklified players as possible. We just need to do better than we did with Houston and really cash in on the good ones who want to leave.

I finally received a reply from Richardson. Take note of the sentence I underlined.

We all get that CEO’s have to say things like this, especially in written correspondence, but nothing highlights the corporate zombiefication of the sport more than when they’re addressing dissatisfaction from lifelong members.

He’s either genuinely happy with the status quo of high ladder finishes and crapshoot September flameouts, or he’s lying to you.

Either outcome is putrid.

He knows.

You know.

He knows you know.

High farce.

In what way is Hinkley leaving such a terrible thing? What are they so scared of? The club WILL survive after he's gone - in fact I have no doubt that it'll thrive.

This is the same guy who when asked on radio by Rucci a few weeks back how the club will handle the inevitable scrutiny on Hinkley in 2025, said "we understand Ken has been here for a period of time".

He literally couldn't even bring himself to say 12 years.

I understand most CEO's are corporate drone types but this bloke is about as inspiring as a local council chief executive.

Beyond that, it’s the casual disrespect to the club itself, and the city as a perfectly suitable location for young professional athletes (and prospective coaches) from elsewhere, that blows me away.

Guys like Ollie Wines, Dan Houston, Zak Butters and Miles Bergman should be thanking their lucky stars they came to Port Adelaide — just like John Abley, Tim Evans, Gary Tredrea, Russell Johnston, Paul Rizonico, Dom Cassisi, Josh Carr, Alastair Clarkson, Robbie Gray, Travis Boak and Michael Voss before them.

It seems to have served them well?

I’m not sure where this belief crept in that Ken Hinkley, of all people, is the keystone to the club attracting/retaining everyone not born on the Lefevre Peninsula.

And the fact this belief actually exists amongst key figures at the club is astonishing, to be honest.

I'm convinced that they think they are doing a good job, thats why there is no movement they must all sit in meetings and slap each others backs on a job well done. Memberships up, we make the finals thats enough for this group.

its almost the worst cycle the club can be in, everyone in power is comfortable and happy to just be bog average and the only real outside agitator was brought into the board where he cant say anything publicly.

Just as an adjunct to this, maybe we shouldn’t have the unelected Chairman constantly calling us a “little club”,

The former CEO declaring in a lapsed membership mailer that the likes of Hawthorn and Essendon are “much bigger than us”,

Employing a current CEO who once had the bright idea to declare the PAMFC were the real Port, and he had the 1951 business licence to prove it!,

And getting an aging out-of-touch journo to serve as PAFC historian and editorialise on the website, who once referred to the club as “stuck in the U-bend waiting to be flushed”.

Remember kids, you’re not allowed to say a cross word against the great Ken Hinkley, but you can denigrate and minimise and sh¡t on the actual club all you want.

In fact, it’s encouraged.
