Yeah, ok you’re right. Houston wasn’t a key player in our game style and won’t be missed.

Who needs players like that, easily replaced.

I’m responding to calls that the list is significantly weaker because of one player, I’m not saying that Houston isn’t a big loss but it’s also just one player. Many successful teams in the past have lost key players much more important than Houston.

Look at us going into 2004, we lost Nick Steven’s for nothing, and Francou and primus both were lost for the season with injuries. Arguably 3 of our top 5 players from the previous 3 or 4 seasons and yet we still improved.

I just don’t believe we are weaker let alone significantly weaker like everyone on here thinks. I’m sorry, I know negativity sells on here.

Impressive wins against the teams that finished 10th, and a team that finished 7th, 5 places below us, who we fell over the line against at home after they missed a late set shot.

Ffs, you were probably one of them saying pre game that hawthorn were going to smash us because they were the form team of the comp. Hardly anyone gave us a chance to win that game.

Were they not impressive wins? The hawthorn game being bookend by two embarrassing losses doesn’t mean that wasn’t a really good performance in isolation. It’s what made those two finals losses hurt more.

If someone coughed at the right/wrong time, Sicily doesn't hit the post and it's a straight sets exit.

It wasn't an impressive win. Is barely winning a game you are expected to win now considered a superhuman feat?

It was a game that if we were a team that was going anywhere in the finals we would comfortably win at home. However all you hear is how they are pissing their panties because they would prefer an away game, scared they were going to go bang bang in front of a home crowd. Scared that we would run Hinkley's Heroes out of town, especially Hinkley.

The fact we fell over the line .....again, remember the first one too.

This was not an impressive win, just further proof that we are fragile and Hawthorn aren't anywhere near as good as they think they are.

You seem to be disparaging people projecting a loss against an inform Hawthorn team and also heralding a single digit win as impressive.

Eating your cake and having it, too.

Pot calling the kettle black? The general consensus was that we were going to lose that game, we win it and suddenly it was a game we should’ve won easily.

Basically any single digit win is no good then based on this logic because they all generally come down to these moments.

We’ve been on the receiving end such as the 2014 prelim, 2017 elimination, 2020 prelim, where had we kicked that goal or not laid that tackle or not handballed the ball out of bounds. I guess all the opposition don’t deserve credit in those games as we made some mistakes that cost us.

No. I don't remember having, let alone expressing, an opinion about Port's SF prospects because I didn't care.

I think most people would expect our list to have enough talent to be able to beat Hawthorn. A loss could seem more likely when you take into account coaching and a long history of failure.

We finished above Hawthorn, a team just emerging from a rebuild. Looking at the home and away season in isolation, we should have beaten them. Beating them by less than a goal was not impressive.

It was a three point win for the second placed side at home against the seventh placed side.

It wasn't impressive.

You can suck the dicks of 2014 Hawthorn, 2017 WC, 2020 Richmond all you want but there was plenty that Port did wrong in all of those games.

Port is a club that likes winning but isn't that bothered by losing. It's unacceptable.

I’m done for tonight. It’s too bloody exhausting swimming against the tide with the odd retort against the tsunami of negativity.

Sack Hinkley.

Sorry Logan Evans isn't going to replace Houston. Before you say - I know you didn't say he would but others have said this.

Luko will be better than we expect.

Interestingly JHF has said they were running on fumes again at the end of the season. Its so Hinkley to continually replicate your mistakes.
Mistakes or deliberate?

If there is no incentive to win flags, and you get your extensions based on h&a results, hes arguably doing exactly what he should to maximise his income.

My basic argument is that:

Houston although amazing offensively lacked a bit defensively
Farrell can easily take over Houston's role and has done it well before
The medium and small backline has become more defensive, one on one and athletic but still young. Bergman, Farrell, Evans, Jones, Sinn.
I'm not a fan of Burton but can also play the seagull role but is a turnstile on defence
The young defenders are improving and IMHO looked good and especially better when the ball hit the deck
Our defence was tight in the last half of the year
Apart from the two finals demolitions, the defence was outstanding and I'm not putting the blame on them for those loses but more on the coaching and midfield

So I'll enjoy my half island and hopefully I'm right and you're all wrong. Not because I want to be right but be because the team would benefit greatly.
